If you’d walked into the centre of Waverley Cemetery, you’d have discovered the 1798 Monument: a huge (25m high) marble monument built over the graves of Michael and Mary Dwyer, who were transported from Ireland for their part in leading the Irish rebellion of 1798 in County Wicklow. It is the largest monument to Irish freedom in the world. It is a huge marble ‘stage’ topped with a Celtic Cross, and features a mosaic floor, portraits on brass plaques, brass sculptures of Irish hounds, ancient Irish shields and axes. On the back of the monument are inscribed the names of the leaders of the Irish independence moment who fought against British occupation in 1798, 1916 and 1981.

The funniest bits are: - Mado's pronunciation of Coogee - "$2 to $5 million for...." an apartment along the Bondi to Coogee walk? The average $1.4 million for a unit, $3.8 million for a house in the AREA is for ones without that view. For ocean views add a zero. Love your videos guys, thanks heaps for letting me enjoy the city I love through the eyes of newcomers. Can I make one (serious) suggestion? The Australian sun is SO much easier to enjoy with a big, broad-brimmed hat. It's like taking shade with you everywhere. The Bunnings hats are crazy cheap (subsidized by having a Bunnings ad on them) and just perfect for Aussie conditions. I promise I'm not a Bunnings bot. But I used to be a skin-cancer doctor, so it pains me to see you wearing only baseball caps xx. Sunscreen does NOT cut it. An invasive SCC on the scalp has a lower 5 year survival than a melonoma. Slip - Slop - Slap. Slip on a shirt. Slop on sunscreen. SLAP ON A HAT!

Those rocks are actually sandstone and the beautiful erosion is from the wind and sea spray over time. It's all along the NSW coast. My father in law's coastal front property on a large block cost him $70,000 in the late 70's and is now valued at $3.5 million! Crazy how the housing costs have skyrocketed. It's out of reach for the younger generations to own a house or apartment now in Syd, even out in the Western suburbs, without having a huge mortgage that you end up paying for your entire life. You either inherit a home from your family or you never own a home outright. That's why I left Sydney, it's too unaffordable unless you want to slave away at work for the rest of your life. I moved down the south coast where it used to be very affordable but now is quite dear. Although it is still much cheaper than Syd. I then moved to Tassie to buy a 5 acre property and build a brand new house on it for literally three quarters of the price of the mainland. But unfortunately, Tassie is now too becoming very expensive to own a home as all the mainlanders are moving down here. I'm lucky to have got in in the right time back in 2017 and am now mortgage free. Australia is a magically beautiful place but it truly is becoming so very expensive, I feel sorry for the younger gens.

The Clovelly inlet starts shallow and gets deeper and with a snorkel you feel like you are in an aquarium. It’s safe as the rocks at the other end prevent bigger fish ie; (sharks😂). An amazing experience that tourists don’t often hear about. I’ll catch your next adventure.🫶

Coogee isn’t really hidden. Behind the beach is the large suburb of Coogee. Further back is the Prince of Wales Hospital and beyond that is the University of New South Wales main campus and alongside is the Royal Randwick Racecourse. Most of Sydney’s ocean beaches are in built up areas, not far from the centre of the city on the south side of the Harbour Bridge. Main ones are North Bondi, Bondi, Tamarama, Bronte, Clovelly, Coogee. They face the Tasman Sea, which is part of the Pacific Ocean.

Meat pies were in Australia long before NZ was even settled by Europeans. Pie carts were on the streets of Sydney as soon as the first steam powered flour mill was built at the start of the 1800s. Saying that we also have meat pies in this country is a bit of an insult 😃 You will find a lot of things they told you come from NZ actually migrated across the ditch but what do you expect when 10% of their population have moved here. A lot of slang they use also comes from Australia - that dosent include sweet as, Cuz, Jandals, chilly bin or fush and Chupps they can keep those.

swimming in bad currents is far worse than surfing, most surfers are attached by a cord to their board, and having a big floating board helps a lot if you get caught in a rip. If you're a poor swimmer, you're very likely to drown if you get caught in a strong current. Surfers probably shouldn't be out there with the beach closed signs up, but they're much better off so people don't mind. Great vid.

After my dad died my mum said she wanted to move back but decided against as the old Bondi was gone. I love my area but the people are not the same. Its all about how much their houses are worth and what they do. Most of them are in debt up to their eyeballs. Its sad but despite all this I wouldn't live anywhere else.
