The roads aren’t made for a lot of rain. So when it does rain in Mallorca there is a ton of surface water. Makes it much more challenging than the UK. Why go on a trip and then add the risk? Would a day missed be worth the trip to hospital on massive descents that have sheer drops?

Super interesting thx! Aero bikes can get down to 6.5kg pretty cheap if you choose carefully and pick rim brakes. That's a nice combo. For small riders it makes more sense to go rim brake unless you ride in rain a lot. Here's an upgrade tip for your rim brakes. Try Campagnolo Bora red brake pads. They provide more bite and longer life, and after many years, very little brake track wear on my chinese rims. You can use one finger fewer on the levers while descending, and keep your bibs clean at the same time. Hehe.

I didn't buy their wheels, you are correct that they are very heavy. I bought wheels from a company called ProX who have quite a good reputation from Hambini etc. while being extremely good value. £550, carbon rims, carbon spokes, DT swiss style hub. 1400g for 55mm. I'm very impressed with their value and haven't encountered any issues after about 7 months. Used them throughout the winter here in the UK. The only complaint I would have is the rim finish, it seems to be a bit more prone to scratches which I guess is a compromise at this price point.

Question I have is how long are you all there for, because for a short break of say a week or less, is it worth taking own bikes? I've been tempted but I don't have a bike box and where I live it's not easy to find one to hire so for every trip I've done over to Mallorca( 5 times so far) I've hired a bike. Bunch of wusses! 😂 part of building skills. I don’t go to Mallorca these days, the last three times it’s pissed it down, better to ride in the uk if it’s wet at least the roads are designed to be wet. The Mallorcan roads are sketchy when wet - you just need to ride accordingly! The main problem there is hotels are not geared up to dry out clothing and shoes overnight. I remember going to Mallorca in 2007 and it rained for a whole week, still go 500 miles in. We were all on rimbrakes obvs back then and the types were nowhere near as good and the stupid ones didn’t reduce their tyre pressure, still running around on 110 psi then! I think I dropped mine to 85 psi but that was on 21mm tyres.

WOW- weighing bikes with pedals!!! What a shocker. Absurd how people still show weights without pedals - as if riders would ride without pedals.
@fede1275
@fede1275 7 ай бұрын
I can see it both ways: here it's better to show the weight with pedals as the bikes are ready to ride, however I would prefer manufacturers to list weight in a standard medium size without pedals for equal comparison.

Fair enough Frederico. Maybe some carbon wheels with alloy brake tracks (although they can be heavy)? Anyway, keep up the good work. If you run into a big Canadian group, it's probably my friends. I wish I was there. Ciao!

SRAM HRD hydraulic force CX1 is lighter (carbon construction: total rubbish) than SRAM rival and 100x less reliable. It’s probably the worst groupset ever made. I’ve replaced mine twice! And it’s very expensive. It’s also horrible to bleed and impossible to repair. Stick with the cheaper stronger reliable RIVAL or even better buy Shimano!

The cost to weight ratio is absurd. All the cope about better braking and wider tyres just shows how the marketing men have swayed the gullible. Go look at cycling press reviews of the original 7800 group and praise for the the braking power now rim brakes are somehow 'unsafe' for the masses 😂
@fede1275

It is really annoying how rim brakes are now viewed as something dangerous. I accept the majority of riders now want integrated cables, wide tyres and discs, to allow less effort on the levers and the ability to ride carbon wheels without wearing them out. Each system have its own features that should be understood and explained properly.

@@fede1275 I must be in a tiny minority then as I'm on the lookout for a lightweight frame with external cable routing like the older lugged Time frames. Rather have ease of maintenance over aero. I can't imagine some neatly routed cables are the difference between being dropped or not in a chain gang.

Nothing wrong with rim brakes, just keep your distance from the guys on disc on the descents! If specced correctly rim brakes on carbon work great even in the wet. I was in the Dolomites in 2022 and we had quite a lot of rain and also hot days. No issues with heat or braking in the wet, worked very well in fact. Best spec for rim/carbon is Bora wto set up tubeless, and with Campag red brake pads. I was the only one on carbon/rim brakes on that trip that didn’t worry about heat or braking. I was 79 kegs at the time so. It light. Come on- man up!
