The roads aren’t made for a lot of rain. So when it does rain in Mallorca there is a ton of surface water. Makes it much more challenging than the UK. Why go on a trip and then add the risk? Would a day missed be worth the trip to hospital on massive descents that have sheer drops?

Super interesting thx! Aero bikes can get down to 6.5kg pretty cheap if you choose carefully and pick rim brakes. That's a nice combo. For small riders it makes more sense to go rim brake unless you ride in rain a lot. Here's an upgrade tip for your rim brakes. Try Campagnolo Bora red brake pads. They provide more bite and longer life, and after many years, very little brake track wear on my chinese rims. You can use one finger fewer on the levers while descending, and keep your bibs clean at the same time. Hehe.

I didn't buy their wheels, you are correct that they are very heavy. I bought wheels from a company called ProX who have quite a good reputation from Hambini etc. while being extremely good value. £550, carbon rims, carbon spokes, DT swiss style hub. 1400g for 55mm. I'm very impressed with their value and haven't encountered any issues after about 7 months. Used them throughout the winter here in the UK. The only complaint I would have is the rim finish, it seems to be a bit more prone to scratches which I guess is a compromise at this price point.

I don’t go to Mallorca these days, the last three times it’s pissed it down, better to ride in the uk if it’s wet at least the roads are designed to be wet. The Mallorcan roads are sketchy when wet - you just need to ride accordingly! The main problem there is hotels are not geared up to dry out clothing and shoes overnight. I remember going to Mallorca in 2007 and it rained for a whole week, still go 500 miles in. We were all on rimbrakes obvs back then and the types were nowhere near as good and the stupid ones didn’t reduce their tyre pressure, still running around on 110 psi then!
