This video definitely drives home the reality. Whiskey is the king of the spirits. However, we aren't who these shops make money on. They make their money on Joe 6-Pack, The Tito's buyer, the Jim White Label and OId No 7 buyer, that comes in on a regular basis. Some darn good bottles in the vault.

Agree 100% with the minor caveat that once any of the high end bottles in a store actually do they they're getting a nice return on their initial investment.

Hehehehe I saw that Elmer T Lee pose at the end! That place has a lot to take in! A few things caught my eye. If I was ever there in person I wouldn't be picking up any of the usual whiskey-tube tater-bait bottles. They are already well aware and have priced them up already. Although I can certainly appreciate them letting you show us the cool old basement of a big Midwest city liquor store! The foundation looked like limestone or dolomite blocks. The stairs going down were also very well worn and old. That building must be at least 100ish years old, if not potentially much older!

@@BondingOverBourbon Hehehe I sure did! I still cherish the bottle I got! Probably won't be able to get another one at MSRP for a good while if at all. The Blue Spot 7 year cask strength, all of the Redbreast products, Midleton very rare Dair Ghaelach, Old Forester 1924, Eagle Rare, Stagg and if there were any cask strength non-chill filtered Glenfiddich scotches. That's what caught my eye. I just can't do wheated bourbon except low proof on ice. So that cuts out a lot of what they had there. I'm really picky on my rye whiskey but there were a few shiny bottles! It's just unfortunate that they have to tag museum prices on some or most of those bottles to keep people from flipping products on them. This is the sad reality of bourbon currently. It just makes my life easier because I refuse to participate in the higher prices. I don't need any of the juice, I just think I need it. The truth is my tastes are changing, I'm digging more into Old Forester stuff now and I'm sad I didn't get into them earlier! I got a sample of the 1910 and I'm definitely going to be picking up a bottle this week! What spurred me into finally checking out OF was how awesome the black top Early Times I have is! That stuff is fire! And the Irish whiskey, I was able to get Redbreast 12 year cask strength at Woodman's. It's such an upgrade from the regular 80 proof 12 year! They also had a good amount of other Redbreast offerings so I'm going to be checking those out when I get the OF bottles. No Blue Spot though, just green and yellow I believe. They sold out of Old Grand-Dad 114 too hehehe, those silly taters following whatever whiskey-tube commands them to do! No dice on the Driftless Glen cask strength as I mentioned before. I'll have to call the distillery.

We absolutely love the OF 1910. Have you tried Wheel Horse Toasted yet? It's really good value for Green River at 4 years and 101 proof.
@MetaPrometheus6 ай бұрын
@@BondingOverBourbon I checked their website. The closest store to me that supposedly carries Wheel Horse is the Binny's in Rockford. That'll have to be something I get when I'm in Illinois again.

their website shows prices on most. I noticed small markups on most, but some markups were high. then I saw Russels 10 for only 30, so it really just depends what you are looking for

Basically what I wanted to say. They have a nice variety and range for everything so you could definitely find different ways to get value from your experience.

I cant find Russell 13 anywhere in my Chicagoland suburbs and this place has a whole row sitting in their basement. Seems like the owner just wants to showoff and price out/horde out the competition

Imagine owning a business and not having to sell your product. The fact they still have EC pirate bottles is insane. That’s a lot of money wrapped up in inventory that won’t be sold anytime soon.
@BondingOverBourbon6 ай бұрын
It gives you an idea about what the clientele is like in the neighborhood. They have a decent amount of beer and wine, so they're not exactly panicking to move inventory.

Hey, let's not jump to conclusions with limited understanding of the situation. The pricing on the ones we asked about were actually very fair and moderate. We simply couldn't decide what to take home and have a running dialog with their management.
