Where/how do you guys find such delightful people to talk to? She was so fun. By the way Meng, I don't know if you get told this often, but in my native country Indonesia, the word "meng" is a common informal word for "cat" (short for "meong" which means "meow"). For me as well, I had a lot of 新しい発見 from this conversation because I don't have any lesbian friends (love the Bian Cé term, sounds so fab 🤣). Andrew looks so cute boxing for the camera and skipping down the street! "Boyish bottom" is a term I can, um, get behind. It sounds like it would be better if there were more lesbian bars there, but in my city, there are zero, and I think this is sadly typical of the States. So, I'm glad there's more lesbian representation among the bars in Tokyo. Could one of you give a little cultural lesson in Nichome and Kabukicho, and why they would be dangerous or scary? Is there a real fear of violence, or is it the reticence of gays and lesbians in Japan to be in LGBT-identified spaces? Would they feel the same about attending the movie house that shows gay movies you showed us a couple of weeks ago?

@Tokyo BTM I’m no expert but, I think the reason gay men love female artists is because of the male gaze. Gay men and women (in general) are subject to a patriarchal world where they are always conscious of the systematic oppression or manipulation of being a man or women in a patriarchal dominate society. And I think for gay men we see these strong Idols who are strong even in this twisted society and we idolize that strength and power and wish to emulate that. There are many studies that show Gay men and straight women and surprisingly even Bisexual people tend to have lower senses of self satisfaction on their bodies and confidence of self than Straight men and Lesbian women (both of which) tend to rank higher than gay men, straight women and even bisexual persons. Which I think is why Gay men and lesbians and straight women may gravitate to female idols more. But more research needs to be done as there isn’t much done on trans gender, asexual, and other persons(sorry I don’t know too many others ).
