Amazing place, and some great B roll. Been there three times and always magical. First time in 2001 and it was really in a "raw" state, and very few visitors. The was pre tomb raider days and it was not yet part of the tourist circuit. Its great to see that over the years they are taking steps to protect and preserve this valuable piece of history and culture. The people of Cambodia are benefiting greatly from it and paying a decent fee is supporting not only the history but also providing economic benefit. Think for a minute that people pay way more than that to go to disneyland, to see fake stuff. LOL.
@d.c.35342 жыл бұрын
👏👏👏 great analogy to put things into perspective. I’ve heard more people complain about the ticket fees to the Angkor archeological park than to Disney world. It takes a village to maintain the temples.
@OnePackWanderers2 жыл бұрын
That's a really great comparison you made to Disneyland. Phrased that way, it really makes amusement parks (that are much more popular than Angkor Wat) seem so silly and frivolous.

Angkor is what started my love affair with SE Asia, and kicked off my travels through the region. It's a truly magical place. The crowd you experienced was actually tiny; it's usually way, way more crowded (especially with large Chinese tour buses, picture the typical throng as 5-6 times larger). You guys should definitely feel blessed! I cannot wait until I get to go back.
@OnePackWanderers2 жыл бұрын
This is very true! We looked at some pre-Covid videos of Angkor Wat and it was packed! Thousands of people at sunrise. Makes that tiny little crowd of 50 people seem so insignificant 😂

Ahhh!! such a refreshing vid!! Thank you for showcasing this amazing heritage that somehow for whatever ridiculous reason is still highly, annoyingly underrated. Even as a local who basically visited, lived, learned, and basically memorized all the fascinating facts for the national exam. I still am once in a while in a daze of just how majestic Angkor Wat is. It's one thing realizing that it is very cool and another level of mental stimulation when you actually sit down and try to grasp the image of how it came about. Truly one of my proudest things as a Cambodian

I’m glad you like the temples in Cambodia. I recommend you hire a tour guide, he/she knows where to take you and explain the history of the Cambodian culture. Inside Angkor wat, there’s an area where you can see four of you when you take a picture. I don’t remember where it is. But they know. There’s a lot more temples for you to see, that’s not all we have. I really enjoyed your videos of Cambodia. Be safe and have fun! Thank you for visiting the kingdom of Cambodia!

Hi Tia and Cheveyo, For supposedly amateurs, you two are doing an amazing job with shooting and editing. I wrote this in a reply. Did you do this? Tia and Cheveyo could have gone back after lunch or, at the very least, in late afternoon, gone to the top of Phnom Bakheng to see the sun set over Angkor Wat. Great experience. This was probably not part of the tuk tuk package they bought at the hotel. They could have rented bicycles or a scooter and explored on their own, with the ability to go back and forth between the temples and the city. Heat and Humidity are intense from now till the start of the rainy season in late May and June. FOR SOME REASON, KZbin WOULD NOT PUBLISH MY REPLY YO SOMEONE'S COMMENT ABOUT $37 BEING EXPENSIVE. SO, I AM EDITING THIS POST TO INCLUDE IT. It's true that $37 per person is not cheap BUT... $37 is for the one-day pass for the whole Angkor Complex ( 72 major temples within an area of 390 square miles) It is not just the ticket price to see Angkor Wat. Of course, because of the heat and the fatigue, to see the sun rise over Angkor Wat, followed by Bayon, then , in the afternoon, Ta Phrom then the Elephant Terrace in the afternoon and then at 4:45 p.m. climb to the top of Phnom Bakheng to see the sun set over Angkor would be manageable and fairly good value for money, IMHO.
@OnePackWanderers2 жыл бұрын
Hey there! Thank you for taking the time to write this out. KZbin is very wonky with comments at times, sorry yours was deleted. Everything you said about Angkor Wat is spot on. We wholly agree that the cost is worth it. There are a huge number of temples to see. We spent a little under 10 hours exploring them and still only saw a fraction. Next time, we'll likely get the three day pass because going into it, we had no idea it was such a massive complex.
