We Were All Wrong About Poppy! | Poppy Playtime Halloween Special!

Since today is Halloween I am using it as an excuse to talk about a fun Poppy Playtime theory I have had for a while now!
While everyone is scrambling around for secrets and clues for Chapter 3, I think we have all been forgetting one very important Poppy Playtime character.
Not only is this theory my craziest one for a while, but it might just have a grain of truth to it. In fact, our theories about the game series as a whole might just be about to change!

Hyping up Huggy as a distraction would have been smart marketing for sales. Introducing other characters as a distraction would give the devs plenty of time to perfect their REAL villain. That answers the question of why the game seemed to focus so much on Huggy.

That and Huggy is stupidly popular. This summer there was a fair in town and as is common with fairs it had popular character knockoff plushies to get the kids to spend money. Huggy Wuggy was one of these and I saw kids winning the toys, including kids who never played the games and only knew it from what their friends thought was cool. It’s apparently a very popular character among young children right now.

I do agree with Stella being Poppy but there is something I feel like NO ONE ever brings up and I think its valid to speculate on. How do we know that there aren't two Poppy's? This makes me wonder this theory because of the total personality switch in characters in CH.2. Poppy in the beginning seems very sweet natured and helpful much like Kissy is and I don't think that's a coincidence that we see two toys being helpful. Also Poppy in the beginning that was being freed, seemed almost lonely and isolated, happy to have a friend. In chapter one, with the writing around Poppy's door it also seems quite strange that in one instance it says "Run" and other wary messages as if anyone had time to write those. It almost feels like an attempt to cast doubt an deception. My opinion, the real Poppy is Elliot's Daughter and Stella is the other Poppy and cannot STAND HER and wants to get rid of her. My guess is that the toys cannot break through her case, maybe in order to, they need to use the grab pack which might be difficult for toys to use. But humans can, hence why "Stella Poppy" keeps luring old factory workers but none have gotten past Huggy until "You". Another reason I believe that there are two Poppy's, a detail I NEVER see people mention or realize, Poppy from the beginning of Chapter one and chapter two have different eyes! The first is more of a soft greenish blue, very bright and round. The end of CH. 2, Poppy's eyes look more of a dingy dark blue and demonic looking. Poppy also looked absolutely terrified when being grabbed by Mommy Long legs but when we rescue her later she seemed eerily calm, as if she was biding her time. I know the concept of her just possibly fooling us with manipulation, but it just stands out too much out of personality with one another. It feels very intentional.

Two Poppys would also explain the timeline. I've seen people theorize that Stella became Poppy before, but it doesn't make sense because Poppy was created in 1950, while Stella didn't join the company until I think the 80's. But if there are _two_ Poppys, then that gets cleared up. Elliot Ludwig's deceased family member became Poppy Prime, then Stella became a second Poppy years later while the company was trying to replicate the original experiment.

I like this theory. Poppy definitly had a completely different feel by end of chapter 2. Eyes, tone everything was different. Also did anyone else think when she tried to turn the power on at the start of that chapter, she was really hiding in a box? Cause the first views of poppy seemed like she was hidding. And what if the “your going to have to trust me” moment was to say theres an imposter poppy?

We've had examples of that in history that nobody likes to talk about and I think it's even worse than Stella being a wolf in sheep's clothing. Poppy was made during an earlier age where there was an air of public suspicion so a troublesome genuinely wicked juvenile would be easy to 'lose' as fodder for a revolutionary experiment as opposed to a seemingly upstanding woman like Stella.

Ok, I think Stella being the main villian is a good plot twist. But I really hope that poppy is the child of elliot that's trying to fix the sins of the company that her father created. It just feels much more impactful as a story of good intentions leading to bad things.

Stella probably won't be revealed as Poppy as Stella was still alive by 1991 and ran the Game Station program. Poppy however, was made in 1950.

I mean. It’s a good idea. But it’s a turn of phrase she’s using. When you’re waiting impatiently for someone to hurry up, you say, “while I’m still young/alive/etc.” Poppy is technically alive, but she isn’t human anymore; therefore it’s just a cheeky alteration to that turn of phrase. She wasn’t literally saying, “hurry up while I’m still a doll because I’ll be taking your body soon.”

I believe it's less about Poppy being a serial killer and more like the process of her creation might have drove her insane considering Mommy Long Legs underwent conditioning because she was hostile and also went insane being trapped for a decade.

You are definitely on to something. Your theory is backed up even more by Poppy herself in the newest Project Playtime trailer for the Forsaken phase. She says that she is "A wayward soul who finds purpose in the shadows." She could be referencing the dark intentions that she had when the factory was still running.

You could also track this connection to Chucky back further, if u know who Chucky's inspiration was too. The real life Robert the Doll! ( currently in FL in a museum.) It's said Robert belonged to and was beloved by his human owner, who kept Robert well into his adulthood. It's said to have made his owner go crazy and is said to be super cursed. Anyone who takes a pic with Robert without his permission are then cursed as well and misfortune happens to these ppl until they apologize to him. Many ppl send in letters every yr begging Robert for forgiveness. Seemingly innocent, yet scary. Just a really cool connection between all 3 through inspiration.

Omg I think I cracked it. That scientist that was talking in the tapes may have come back as Poppy. And I know it’s a leap because Poppy is female but who’s to say that the gender transfers over as well? Maybe the voice you have is just whatever is already how the doll sounds, such as Mommy. We know mommy was a little girl herself and she sounds like a grown woman now, so perhaps it doesn’t matter what voice you had before. The scientist in the tape said, “I’m not worried about myself, one more breakthrough and I’ll be back. We must forge on in the name of science.” So he came back as a toy, specifically Poppy. Perhaps 1006 locked the scientist up in hopes that they could get Poppy (scientist) to transform them back to their human forms. Also, maybe now that you came all the way to the factory and freed Poppy this shows you are “you are too perfect to lose”. You are the right amount of obedient and sentient to be let go. The player would make the perfect experiment for Poppy. Whether the player is a toy or not though is a hard call on how Poppy would use you though. I still have yet to figure that out. Anyways, hope that makes sense.

I see that the lore could be based on child's play. It also seems to have FNaF inspiration. But I think the poppy playtime doll is more based on strawberry shortcake. The strawberry shortcake franchise created a doll that had strawberry scented hair. Poppy have red hair like her and has scented hair. Poppy seems to hold more of the porceline doll look than the typical strawberry shortcake look

Yeah, I never trusted Poppy from the start. When I hear 'Good Guy', I do think of Chucky. Which would make the player a stand-in for Andy Barclay or Nica Pearce. Also she shares a few similiaries to Annabelle, the infamous cursed doll. I mean she was locked in a glass case, similar to Annabelle. I also suspected that Poppy's main strengths came from manipulation tactics; she uses her small, innocent appearance to make others do her bidding. Amazing theory as always.

The Chapter 2 trailer went into Mommy being the one who locked her in the case but, she just calls her "Mommy". Poppy was bait. Mommy being spider-like hints to this. Mommy could have actually sent the message to the player too. In Chapter 2 Mommy is the biggest master of deception and traps. It wouldn't put it past me if she rigged the train to crash since she "rewards" it to you and freedom if you win and to just leave scott free? I think not. People ignore Mommy's deceptive lengths terribly. Everyone only assumes it was Poppy. I don't get why Poppy would throw all these baddies at you if she was stronger than them all to influence you in their direction in the first place. Then, use you for what? Parts? Help? Escape? Nothing she couldn't do on her own without you. Why lie about needing you to stop the monsters? She had control of the train and picked you up. Either this is bad writing or Poppy isn't the big baddy.

I don’t know, I still think the person who got transferred into Poppy was Ludwig’s daughter, since if I remember right some of the text in his office mentions he had a daughter who died under mysterious circumstances. Of course this might be me assuming she’s a redux of Baby from FNaF. In that case it’s still possible the experiments on children were meant to find her a new body. Heck maybe at some point Stella was the victim of choice, a woman who happened to resemble the deceased girl as she would have been as an adult and just so happened to be the same age as the girl would have been. But I agree Stella is more evil than we think. The fact that she could smile and act that friendly while leading children along a path that will make them into experiments means she’s either much more evil than she lets on or the true fate of those children is unknown to her.

I felt the same way just not with the Chucky part lol see all the other channels keep talking about these new characters and forgetting about Poppy the whole game is named after her she was the first to come alive I believe also shes the real big threat to the full story and people are just forgetting about her I think they plan this well for people to forget she's the main character who will be forgotten because all the focus are in other places when poppy do shows up with her true colors that will shock everyone we will find out what she done to be locked up and what her whole plan was from the start. Although this is a great theory, there is one problem with it. Poppy was created around the 1960s But we hear Stella speaking and talking about Mommy Long Legs in Chapter 2 at the game station. Mommy Long Legs was created in 1991 way after Poppy.

Poppy pretty much turned the tracks to playcare because in chapter 3, she said that she needs us to defeat the prototype.She saw how capable we were in poppy playtime when we killed Huggy and mommy and freed her.She wants us to help kill the prototype so that’s why she turned the tracks leading us to the playcare.

Ngl, it almost makes sense for Poppy to be like a duality kind of character. Maybe she is a good guy, but the issue is she has to use devious intentions in order to do the right thing. I can see Poppy turn on us soon, but maybe at least side with us one more time for the final or something like that.

Poppy may have the coloring of "Chucky" purposely done (my opinion), but her design is based on a "Blythe doll". That's quite obvious it's that "on the nose". Blythe was created by a company called Hasbro and she was released in 1973. She lasted a yearish, and was shelved. She experienced a revival in the early 2000's due to a photographer named Gina Garan, who photographed her vintage blythe dolls, and susequently made her popular again.

That's only assuming there's only ever been one Poppy. So we may have had another Poppy and she was replaced (if Poppy was in fact the first one). There's various ways this could be looked at and still work with the theory. But it's still weird for Mob to ensure that Poppy and Stella always share a VA (someone made a comment about different languages all having this as well). So it def doesn't seem to be a budget related thing, it's done for a reason. Just not sure if it's a false lead or not at this point.

if you think about it when poppy goes into that doll mode, Similar to Chucky's ability in chapter 2 whenever poppy was being held by mommy long legs she would tense up and go into that doll form almost as if to pretend she can't speak or awake. But we are aware mommy was already aware of poppy's talking ability's beforehand when she held her toward the player mocking poppy's voice so I can see those thoughts being real for the poppy playtime era though, but something is she didn't act that hostile towards poppy while she had her in her hand so maybe she was friends with her at one point in the factory when it ran?

Tbh I’d be super disappointed if they went this route. The “evil redhead doll” thing is sooo overplayed. I like to think its going to end up in more of a moral grey area with the prototype just wanting to save the children and going about it in the most violent way possible. Right thing wrong way kind of deal. I also feel that its so strongly implied in all the notes and lore so far that poppy was the first success and came about from Elliot trying to save the person he lost, I believe his daughter, possibly adopted from the very playcare he started and then the situation spiraling ending with her trying to end the suffering the company caused as a result of her being put in the doll.

I know it would take a LOT of development and money to do it... but I'd love to see that a decision we make determines if Poppy turns out to be good or bad. Like 2 totally different ending options. For Poppy to help or to hurt. (If there was a final boss fight that she assists you as a hero or that the final boss fight is versus her as the villain) I also enjoy the Child's Play series as well.

Another clue would be the symbolism to the flower poppy. In the Wizard of Oz poppy was the flower used to put Dorothy and the others to sleep. The flower also symbolizes death, remembrance, regeneration, and peace. It can also be eternal beauty and peace. Maybe another clue to Stella being Poppy is eternal beauty.

Thank you! Perhaps to keep her from exposing the factory. Poppy could have been bait for Mommy or other toys to trap to feast on. I don't get how I don't see anyone consider this. Nor how deceptive Mommy was and her environmental traps she'd leave to hopefully kill you. She likely rigged the train... I don't get how no one says this. Do they really believe she was just going to let you cheat, beat her rigged games and just escape scot free? For all anyone knows Poppy could have saved you by switching the tracks out. The Huggys are a security system. Stated in the very first video tape in Chapter 1 for trespassers set up by Playtime Co. People just want Poppy Playtime to be similar to some other IP (FNAF, Annabelle, Child's Play, etc) which is lame and lazy...

Random thought: What if 1006 is Elliot Ludwig and Poppy is Stella so Poppy is controlling 1006 which means Stella was controlling Elliot before the downfall of the factory and still is? Idk what I just said but I said it.

But also in ch 2 during musical memory when it starts to glitch, there are 3 words that appear. Massacre, ravenous, and coquelicot. The first two words are self explanatory, but the last word is French for poppy. Maybe another clue to poppy being the real mastermind

honestly i think its a mixture of chucky, Annabelle (visually she looks like an annabelle doll), and maybe pet cemetery. remember in pet cemetery the animals would act ok for normal people but try to kill whomever revived them. this was also true of humans revived in that manner. even innocent children became killers once revived.

You know, I’ve recently played Resident Evil Code Veronica and something that stood out to me was that, in order to stay in control of the virus and it’s abilities, Alexia, the main antagonist, put herself to sleep/a coma for 15 or so years to do so. Perhaps something similar is at play here. Perhaps Poppy was put in that case/to sleep in order to help the soul have better control and not get lost in this dark magic-esque ability. Maybe she was let out too soon when we let her out and that’s why she switched at the end though this is just a theory. Or perhaps it was something else; I don’t know, when she says that terrible things have happened and she wants to fix everything, it doesn’t strike me as completely evil. Maybe evil/bad with good intentions?

Hi! I'm quite new to the Poppy Playtime fandom and the theories that come with it, and I have a question. Could the character we play be the prototype? I don't know if this theory has any backing, but the part in chapter two where Poppy calls our character perfect reminded me of when that scientist dude was ranting about the prototype. I don't think our character has been confirmed as human so maybe? Though I do acknowledge that this theory does seem to have many flaws, such as mommy long legs telling us that we worked here, which is unlikely if were the prototype, as well as the fact that I doubt the prototype would come back to the factory after many years of it being closed for some unknown reason? This is probably a slightly dumb question or theory but I wanted to ask anyway.

This is a very interesting theory, and I am very convinced that Poppy could be the Big Bad, but I don't think that Poppy would want the factory to fall if she is looking for immortality. It could be possible that Stella used Elliot to become Poppy, but he died before the Bigger Bodies ever began so I think it could be possible that Elliot was betrayed by Poppy and turned him into 1006. After the betrayal and witnessing the dark events that is the opposite to what he wanted, he develops this hatred to destroy Poppy. 1006 is absolutely against the Bigger Bodies initiative and he aggressive to the scientists because of the fact that they are willingly doing this without a care in the world. I believe the Prototype is getting in contact with us by the phone and he could be the unknown sender in the ARG. There is one detail that I want to point out, I don't think Poppy actually left the area where we found her before boarding the train. I think Poppy pretended to leave to get the Player in the train and stayed there to take control of the train, but that is the perfect place for 1006 to sneak up behind her. That is my thoughts, what do you think? Anyways, great video, and I hope to see more from you.

I get the feeling that yeah: Poppy is an inspiration based on Chucky from the Child's Play movies (and a little bit of Annabelle dolls) Huggy Wuggy is loosely based on Grover from Sesame Street Mommy Longlegs is from Betty Spaghetti But I get the feeling that Experiment 1006 can be loosely based on SHODAN from System Shock 2, the Marker or the collective thoughts from the Marker in Dead Space, etc. IDK Ollie gives me ATLAS/Fontaine Bioshock vibes when talking to him

Thats what i am saying from a year! Poppy its Stella and its trying to take the player's body for herself. Imagine if in chapter 4 instead of using the grabpack we have to switch toys bodies in order to use their abilities? The biggest clue that Poppy is Stella came from Mommy Herself, she calls her Ms Poppy and locks her in Stella very own work station where you can find a paper that states that Ms Stella Greyber worked in that room. I'll go further, Momny may be the one the locked Poppy in the case because she knew how evil she was, exp 1006 sent the letter to the player in order to rescue her.

The only thing that ruins this. Is that poppy was made in the 1950 and Stella would probably not be living/ working there. Stella knows who mommy long legs is who’s made in around 1999. So Stella can’t be alive and be the head of play-care as well as being poppy.
