FYI, The Patagonia sun hoodies that are on clearance are lower UPF than the full price ones. Last year Patagonia realized that while 90%+ of the surface area exceeded UPF 30, there were some spots on their sun hoodies that were only UPF 15, (I believe it was in the seams) and temporarily stopped selling them. This isn’t a big deal to me, but might matter to some. They redesigned them to be 100% UPF 30, and put the older ones on clearance with a disclaimer.

Outdoor Research Sun Hoodie has lived up to the hype for me…I have one with a hoodie and one without. I prefer the one without. You should give it a try (and don’t hold the rain jacket against the hoodie😅). Thanks for this video and all of the honest feedback. Hugs to you both! ❤

I use the Echo from OR. It’s great for here in Oregon where you’re not exposed for long stretches.

I agree with everything you guys are saying. I will add- Dutchware sells titanium nail stakes that are great. They are thick. And I found they work their way through rocks etc. And have used them in sand with good results. Also like what you say about going UL- but I think you guys have mentioned going UL in order to bring other items like camera gear and chairs and that's why I've liked investing in UL gear. I like how many times you say "poo pooing it"

Try stretching your hood to go over the brim of your baseball cap. The tension helps keep it in place, and it then covers more of your face.

Patagonia Sun Hoody is my new jam. I'm buying another one for next summer. I wore mine for more than just hiking. Comfortable and keeps you cool and shaded.

I use a synthetic down under quilt from Cedar Ridge Outdoors, no complaints here. I had the same thought that since it's kind of exposed it would be better if it got wet/moisture.

What would be some recommended rain jackets for Fall, Winter, and Spring other than the Outdoor Research Helium?

Feel free to send me a few titanium stakes you have there taking up space! I'll use them to position my stove windscreen.

I remember when many said a chair is worthless to bring, way too heavy.

hammock chair from Dutch is nice. it's light until you add tree straps. A camp hammock chair is really nice to have though. It's a tarp and a pack cover also.

if a shirt is too big...just order a smaller size. Not a valid complaint.

To me the best sun hoodies I've used have been from fishing companies...I think Free Fly is best.

I picked up an REI sun hoodie during my AT thru hike and ended up throwing it away. The material stretched, it never dried out, and ended up chaffing. I have a Jolly Gear hoodie on the way and I know that will do the job. I met plenty of people that had them from Trail Days in Damascus. I would not be surprised if they end up being as in demand as a Melly.
