A good trick to use when dispatcher asks you to do that, is tell them to send a text message, saying you are ordering me to do this and accept full responsibility and liabilities if you get in an accident, pulled over by DOT or the cops for this run. That you are threatened with being fired for not doing this run. If they fire you then you already started your case for illegal termination.

I do that to companies I worked for when it came to shenanigans. It's not to "bait" them but to protect YOURSELF. Exactly as MT said " you are the captain". Get their orders in emails, text etc., in black and white. It's like my lawyer bud who for years, states "it's not the truth that counts, it's what you can prove in court".

I never had to ask my primary dispatcher when I was with a mega carrier that I needed a message sent on the Qualcomm. @@reneelemaster3290 if fired like these folk i am sure a yard closer to home. Im not sure their exact deal but where ever they picked that truck up must have been close to their home. They agreed to let me take the tractor home to empty my stuff out then meet at a truck stop and had a new driver meet me there to pick the truck up. But ya atleast try to work something out. Any company that would leave a driver stranded aint a very good company and maybe deserves a stranded truck. I never did but never worked for a company that had 0 care about their drivers. I have recovered abandoned trucks with a loaded trailer. Run team til at the truck then i jump into that truck and deliver the load then return to the shop for inspection. I been in the same situation ones with my wife, so I know the feeling. The only difference is, that I had money to rent a vehicle and hotel. Reason, why I ended up in the same situation is because of dispatch! Dispatch was forcing me to keep running after working for over 15 hrs. At one point I had to treated to called the police because of the amount of the calls I was getting at 3am on a rainy night! No way I was gonna put up with it, and ended up getting into a accident! I been doing this for 24 years and know better! So, I took the truck back to quit on the company! I got all of stuff and out of the truck and when home to Texas the next day. I tried to report the company to FMCSA and nothing ever happened because FMCSA don't care when a truck driver files a complained. I ended up working with a way better company. This industry is bad! That's why I'm leaving this industry! It's had giving me a lot and had the opportunity to travel to only place that you see on T.V., but the regulations suck! I'm out, going to the airline industry or becoming a crane operator next year or the most 2 years. Those two careers have get more respect that any the truck industry has to offer! Wish all the best to this two drivers. Sorry this happens to, and I understand. Be safe everyone, and keep it rolling. #TruckersKeepAmericaRollingFoward #USA1

Example: use a single trip permit to pull similar excavators 2 a day all week from the port to the yard 30-60 miles depending on the port/terminal. When I asked if it was legal the company said the permit was valid for all week. I wanted a separate permit for each load they violated the contract terms and charged me for other permits. I didn't do any more of the local loads. When I left they told the next company my contact was cancelled for company violations

The company terminated my contract for directly tell the broker what was going on. They sent a driver and he took off with the truck along with the medication and belongings. I was staying in a hotel across the street and only had enough meds for my stay. I ended up having medical emergency due to not having my meds.
