Quoting a comment on Reddit: Fromsoft games are often described as having a "click" moment where suddenly everything starts to make sense. Some people restart 3 times before the Click, some don't get it until they're halfway through, some never get it at all. The Click doesn't even happen in the same way for everyone. Some people, it's slowly trekking through a castle, finally making it to the end, and slaying your first demigod, thinking about how you - not some prophesized main character - overcame a mountain. Others, it's finding the right weapon, realizing that little things like reach or the weight of the hit matter, and the game is not just waiting for enemies to stop attacking. Some don't even notice the Click once it happens; one day they just realize they enjoy a game they have to focus on and take somewhat seriously. I'm always a little sad when someone never experiences the Click, even when they give it an honest effort. F in the chat to all those that genuinely gave it a try and still didn't that Click.
@barackobreezy26 күн бұрын
yeah big agree, tried DS3 a while back, didn't click, couldn't get the combat and navigation down. played through elden ring on the recommendation of some friends and it just clicked. I've always loved exploration and open world though, but even going back to the more linear DS3, I loved it & its DLCs after seeing it through the lens of elden ring. it's a shame elden ring is such a toss up for some folks. I really think it's such quality, but a lot of the arguments against it rise from its open world formula. I think more people should use a wiki to outline their experience and just get lost in learning more about the open world & where some cool items, bosses, and weapons are. that's what made me fall in love with it

Man on the left has it right: 5:48. Once you play a fromsoftware game (any of them) enough, it finally clicks in your head. You understand the gameplay loop and it becomes relaxing. I feel Connor on that one about having to restrategize for every big fight in JRPGs. No game gives you that anymore. The closest you see it in is Metaphor Refantazia on hard mode. Some fights will make you wonder what abominations of gamers are living under Atlas's desk greenlighting main story fights like the Frost D boss ifykyk. I had to backtrack over 30 minutes of cutscenes to even stand a chance against it, and it is not about levels it is about consumables items (you can buy) and your class setups which is what makes it not grindy, but a puzzle.

Elden Ring has a huge playstyle shift in the Souls-like genre. In Dark Souls 1-3, Bloodborne, you can pick any build and beat the entire game. In Elden Ring, it takes influence from Sekiro. Some bosses are extremely strong to certain builds. Like the Crystalians, they absorb 90% of magic damage they receive, so can't use standard magic to it. Their skin acts like a shield, so attacking it with light attacks will feel like hitting a shield. But if you equip any lvl 1 standard mace and do 4 or 5 heavy attacks, you break its poise, and now its skin is shattered and all attacks will stunlock it. You can now equip a dagger and stunlock it without worrying about stamina. Some bosses are weak to poise damage. Some bosses are weak to certain status effects. To some bosses it is better to equip some gear that absorb a specific type of damage. I played the game for 600 hours before the DLC. I still have a hard time against many of the bosses. Then I find a unique tactic with a certain super hard boss that makes it almost trivial. It is such an amazing design.
@weed_houze25 күн бұрын
no. wrong. roll r1. skill issue
@ArtoriasTheme20 күн бұрын
That's quite an exaggeration. For example in DS1 there are main story bosses that are immune to fire, making it not possible to beat the game by just using Pyro, as one example. The ER Crystalians are not mandatory and you could run by them if need be or even just skip the tiny amount of areas they turn up in. I did ER with multiple single focus builds and didn't run into any major roadblocks.
@rumplstiltztinkerstein20 күн бұрын
@@ArtoriasTheme I did single focus builds as well. To beat the crystalians with my mage I did what I mentioned, equipping a lvl 1 mace. Still, we can feel the Sekiro influence in Elden Ring's bosses.

my first souls game was DS3 because I heard it had a character creator and I love character creators (I didn't know much about the series before that). Since I play games thinking of my character as an OC (because I write plots about them later), I didn't have a problem with dying multiple times because in my head it was part of the character's journey. As expected, I loved it and played Elden Ring after it and then DS1. I loved them all 💜 If I had to give one tip it would be that I think playing the souls games without thinking so much about how quickly to finish them is much better.

Here's the thing about Soulsborne games - *some people find constant death in a video game demoralizing*. Yes, the whole point is to keep grinding and not to give up, but when the game says "fuck you, try harder" over and over, some of us respond with "oh yeah? fuck you instead" and just stop playing. Obviously, due to the game's popularity, that's not a typical response among gamers, but I cannot see it being an unthinkable one.
@Wayward927 күн бұрын
I only quit when the fights feel unfair. Most of the time playing Elden Ring when I died it felt like it was my fault and doing another run where I make it farther and dodge an atk I struggled with is so exciting. It rarely feels like there’s an attack you can’t dodge. Most of the time it doesn’t feel like a “fuck you” and more something you can learn from and try again. Plus the bosses and world is just so cool I wanted to keep playing. If you really struggle there’s always options like summons, magic, or looking up how other ppl fight a boss that makes it a lot easier
@aliasonarcotics27 күн бұрын
i don't think it's atypical. most people who play elden ring got carried by phantoms, often overleveled ones this isn't sekiro. the solo grind where you die over and over and the only option you have is to get better is not the typical experience. also as you get to the higher levels, overtuned ashes and spells can make up for a big part of a lack of ability

Damn I can't imagine beating Bloodborne but STRUGGLING in Elden Ring. I played Souls 1-3 + Sekiro and Elden Ring was a breeze for me, apart from Malenia and the DLC which were actually challenging.

11:46 the boss rush game you're looking for is called Black Myth Wukong. There's a couple standard enemies here and there but the game is literally just a boss rush for the most part
@GoldenStorm-gs7lx26 күн бұрын
Does it have parrying tho?
@Metamine026 күн бұрын
@@GoldenStorm-gs7lx not really, you could parry using a specific skill, but for the most part, you have to dodge. But the dodges, attacks, counterattacks, and spells more than make up for the lack of parrying
@BasketCase-rr7tx26 күн бұрын
I’m curious if you actually played Black Myth, because what you said is true of the first chapter, but once you get into chapter two and beyond there is actually a lot of exploring and a lot of regular enemies as the levels get very big and complex, even more so that souls games.
@Metamine026 күн бұрын
@@BasketCase-rr7tx I wouldn't say it's exploration is more than Elden Ring. Yes, it's not a pure boss rush game, there is plenty of areas to explore for upgrades and your more bog standard enemies. But it's not even close to the level of Elden Ring, where the idea of an open world is taken to the max.
@BasketCase-rr7tx26 күн бұрын
@@Metamine0 When I said souls games I meant Dark souls not Elden Ring. The level design in Black Myth is more complex than any Dark Souls game, and its definitely not a boss rush. In fact there are some sections where you dont even fight a boss for hours.

Joey is so half assed. First time watches 1 episode of Arcane. This time, plays 1 hour of Elden Ring and gives up. This is his job, he can't find a little more time? The whole point was experiencing something you haven't given a chance

Agreed. He needs to persevere more.

I'm genuinely starting to believe that people are just looking for excuses to hate joey, the point of this challenge is to consume the media recommended for only 1h, and then try to explain what they experienced in that hour. The three of them follow the same rules, but somehow people only find problems with Joey, I don't understand.

I put a good 30 hours into Elden ring Always wanted to go back to it but I can’t because I know no matter what I will never beat this game Even if I have the best build best stats best weapons items there comes a point where at certain bosses you’re no longer playing but throwing your head against the wall Which is what makes soul games but I don’t find that fun If all my skills and stats still require me to die 60 times to beat a boss then I just can’t do that
@triztenbeaner26 күн бұрын
They dont "require" you to die thaaaat much. Unfortunately it appears this is a skill issue...

You don't need the best build tho' , nor to headbash for hrs on end on a troublesome boss. You do need, a decently strong build that you can use well, if you want to avoid hitting walls tho. Like, if I'd let you play on my latest Cuckoo Knight like char, who is very very strong if played right, you might not do well nor enjoy it cause you ain't familiar with what all the spells & weapon skills, and buffs it uses that leads to it being OP, which came from experimentation to learn what each do, how they combo with something else, etc However, if you do something like that on your own, and eventually find a decent synergy that feels just comfy for u to use, you can use it well, and if it'll hit a wall , say at a boss that's strong vs your build, you can still "evolve" it w/o actually respecting, adding that one extra buff, that one extra attack to your usual combos, mby throw in a 2nd weap using similar stats u sometimes swap to mid-fight. In doing this, you get more familiar with the game as a whole, so u enjoy it more as a whole.

10:40 I have to disagree here that everything in this game is skill issue, because when you are first time playing you don't have much of the game knowledge, like what the enemies weakness are nor what builds are good or not. I would say that build is even more important than skill first time playing. Would Connor even defeat Malenia if chat wasn't constantly saying that mimic was OP? What skill did he had? Spamming jump power attack with Radahn swords? I imagine Joey couldn't enjoy it very much because there wasn't a chat hinting what to do because just seeing him heavy rolling already tells a lot. The difficulty of going with an unrefined weapon with no upgraded flasks or even the mixed flasks to fight against Margit is already challenging enough that even people that already beated this game will avoid, they will at least upgrade their weapon a little. So it is a double challenge upon yourself, like, you have no experience against this boss and this game's mechanics, and also you didn't explore anything.

Black Myth: Wukong normalised not losing your "souls/runes" when you die, i need this in more souls-like games, it's fucking peak!
