Thanks for watching everyone! What do you think about the Destiny franchise?
@OrionInSpace6 ай бұрын
This game came out at the perfect time for me as a kid because I had just entered high school and that was the time of my life where I was playing video games the most. One of the biggest reasons I love Destiny campaign or not is because of its ability to explore the unknown. Given it is from the developers of the older Halo games (as you brought up at the end) it makes sense. Halo and its story rely a lot on exploring the unknown universe. While it is much more explored in Halo than it is in Destiny I still appreciate that this franchise takes its mythology to those areas. Good video as always man!

I really miss the atmosphere of destiny 1, with its quiet and mysterious setting. The open world spaces really made you feel like an alien exploring the remains of a humanity that’s been annihilated for centuries. Coming across other guardians in the open world felt like you stumbled across another fellow explorer and it was a unique feeling when you joined their party and began completing missions together. The plethora of unanswered questions kept me intrigued in the world, I would spend hours watching videos and reading the lore cards, truly felt like I was a guarding searching for answers among the chaos of destroyed solar system.

God i miss this game. I understand, rose tinted glasses, but it was such a different game from anything I'd ever played before. I still boot it up from time to time just to experience the vibe this game gave off. Destiny 2 has never been able to capture the feel of this game and that makes me a little sad
@calvinfishermedia6 ай бұрын
Definitely agree with you there! Destiny 2 made a ton of improvements. But at the same time, there is just an intangible feeling that Destiny 1 has which destiny 2 doesn’t quite replicate. Thanks for watching!

Part of it is the art style. Destiny 1 looks more "mythic" while Destiny 2 opted for a more realistic art style

I think this campaign functioned well as a set of introductions to the universe and it's factions. It feels like a long, drawn-out exposition for the stories that came after. I think it works well now that we have all of those subsequent stories, but at launch I understand people being disappointed with the expository nature of the main story
@calvinfishermedia6 ай бұрын
I think this is a great way to put it. I think nowadays the campaign is a good introduction because of how it delivers a lot of the base lore and factions in a digestible manner. The future stories provide the emotional punches that really brings the whole experience together. Thank you for watching and sharing!

From what I’ve heard Destiny has a lot of INSANE lore that’s on par with the stuff you’d see in Elder Scrolls. Unfortunately, they’ve done an atrociously bad job of conveying it through the various expansions. Also, in addition to the various things you’ve mentioned in the video the first game was released in several dlc chunks that were clearly chopped up versions of the campaign (you could’ve mentioned that. It’s been a while since I watched the video, and I’m just now commenting). It’s such a shame the thing was so botched. We could’ve had something truly phenomenal. So are you any closer to finishing the Killzone trilogy, and starting on Resistance? Or are you mostly focused on other stuff? Something I found interesting about Resistance is how Fall of Man’s story is told like a documentary. It’s a cool concept, but sadly Nathan Hale is woefully underdeveloped. If there ever were to be a remake I’d want them to give him a voice like they did for Issac in the Dead Space remake. If he actually talked to the other characters during the game he would’ve been more developed. I also heard the ending of 2 was horrifically rushed, and Insomniac killed him off since they didn’t do a lot with his character. I’m sure he has more development in the book, but I haven’t read it so I can’t speak on it. It’s also interesting how they changed the weapon/health systems in each entry, and vehicles sadly only appeared in Fall of Man.

On thing I really liek that enhances D1's story is when you read the Grimoire you find entries that expand on events, even the named enemies have some lore, like how the Cabal hiarchy is Primus Ta'aun at the top of the D1 Cabal Scout Legions, under him are the 2 Valus brothers who lead the SKyburners, Valus Ta'arc who leads the Cabal forces on Mars directly from his Land Tank, Primus SHa'aul who leads the Blind Legion in siezing and seuring Vex structures who you kill in the mission where you charge the Gate Lord's eye, then there's a few Vals who protec the way to Valus Ta'arc, and 2 Bracuses you kill in 2 story missions.
@calvinfishermedia6 ай бұрын
This is a great point! It’s a shame more of this lore wasn’t delivered in the game directly, but you definitely see the intentionality behind the lore despite it while playing. Thanks for watching and sharing!

@@calvinfishermedia Yah, once you know the lore a bit even just from the Grimoire, D1's main story does make enough sense, it's not perfect, but it does enough, afterall this may be 1 Campaighn, but it is not the story's end, nor truely it's beginning.

Destinys biggest issue is it was carved up and sold to us piece by piece. They (Bungie) routinely try to nickle and dime their fanbase at every turn. Regularly serving up rehashed/reused assets for a premium and only produce something decent when they're forced to. The premise of Destiny is fantastic. The execution has always been bad. But here we all are again hoping and praying that afrer 10 years The Final Shape will be different this time.
@calvinfishermedia6 ай бұрын
Yeah, Bungie really has a way of taking their fanbase for granted, even compared to other gaming companies. Frustrating for sure. Thanks for watching!
@redrodtherebel66306 ай бұрын
It’s been well known for a while now that Bungie’s executive management (not the people actually MAKING the game) have literally no idea what players want and only really care about sales and deadlines, which puts their developers in a tough spot trying to make the game they want to make while still meeting those goals. It’s not that they only do good when they’re forced to, it’s that they can only do good when the execs lay off the reigns and let the devs do what they do best. And that typically only ever happens when a release goes bad and results in major backlash from the playerbase.

I'm so sad the art design took such a dramatic shift in D2. Back in D1, sometimes I'd just leave my Guardian sitting on the moon, almost as a screensaver while doing other stuff. I've never had the same inclination to do that in D2, even after the moon came back.
@calvinfishermedia6 ай бұрын

(No relation to the video. Just posting this here because there’s already several comments about the second paragraph on your Killzone 1 video) I saw that you finished the CoD trilogy content. Haven’t gotten around to watching them yet. It will be interesting (too bad Black Ops 4’s campaign got scrapped. It was a genuinely interesting setting where you’d pick one of two factions and your actions would impact how the story/missions unfold). I’m assuming you’re going to make another supercut that combines your Black Ops 1-3 videos like you’ve done for other games in a series. Sorry to sound like a broken record about Killzone and Resistance. I’m sure it’s probably getting annoying by now. Now that the Destiny and CoD stuff is done do you think you’ll do Killzone/Resistance, or are you still running into issues with recording and having more projects before you do either series? For those maybe you could have a section of the videos where you cover the intel you find throughout the games. Before playing through the games you could look up their locations and make a note to get them (Such a shame that instead of bringing back either series Sony spent upwards of 200 MILLION DOLLARS on Concord only to shut off the game within two weeks and refund everyone🤣. Let’s hope the game flopping and Astrobot’s success makes them change their priorities).

After those hopefully I’ll get to Killzone!

Ya know even up until the eleventh hour of Destiny’s lifespan it still received the same love/hate relationship as D2 does now and here we are nearly 7 years since D2s release and everyone says D1 was great and never said a mean thing about it. When Final Shape is done and a few years have passed I guarantee everyone will say D2 was an amazing experience and Bungie really did themselves well on it. Just like Call of Duty was in the mid 2010s. Everyone shat on Advanced Warfare, BO3 and others then for everything and now you see “This was the last great CoD” Miss me with that shit

I definitely see your point, but I don’t fully agree. For instance, people still generally hate Ghosts. I also wouldn’t say that Destiny 1 is perfect or didn’t have its problems. I do point out the issues with the story and the way it handles lore in this video. Thanks for checking the video out and sharing your opinion!
@requiemagent30146 ай бұрын
Ok I don't like dragging people down or disregarding your opinion. But Destiny 1 original campaign is bad. Maybe because they scrapped the entire original campaign and started from scratch just months before release. Bungie has a habit of doing this. You cannot blame publishers for this all the time. They did this for Halo 1, Halo 2, Desitny 1 and Destiny 2. They scrap major parts of their work and present a half baked experience. Difference is with Halo 1 and 2 it worked out. Miraculously. With Destiny not so much. The Taken King was really good but man what happened with Destiny 2. Same problem. I highly encourage you to look into this studios history and the leaks surrounding the original Destiny story. What a mess.

Thanks for sharing your opinion! I enjoy hearing other perspectives even if they differ from their own. I agree, I think it’s evident that Destiny’s woes are largely Bungie’s fault. I wasn’t a fan of how people knee jerk blamed activision (not that I am an activision fan mind you). But I think despite the problems, there is still enough of a creative spark in Destiny that I really value. Did you play the final shape? I think it’s Destiny’s best content, perhaps ever!
