As a small newspaper in a city, I am first and foremost independent and observe the municipal council and mayor. I demand the true expenditure of every expenditure of the administration and write about the pros and cons. ----- I have the suspicion here that this newspaper is not independent. Why doesn't this newspaper write about the almost 15,000,000 dollars that are missing from the city treasury? An article doesn't have to prove anything if you write it under the guise of satire. Hard-hitting satire would help the newspaper.

Henyard lacks any moral compass and uses her juvenile daughter Justice for political activities and purposes. The financial reports she kept referring to are from 2 years ago. The Thornton Township leadership has not filed this years financial reports as required by law.

@R1712D , The Lansing Journal doesn't have the resources to do much investigative-style reporting, but that doesn't preclude us from being independent. We attend, observe, and report what we see, independent of influence from advertisers or supporters.

@@lansingjournal Especially an independent newspaper - must always follow the municipal council, i.e. report on it - always! Here in this "lesson" about conditions in the administrations of towns, cities in America - must be reported extremely neutrally. I have the feeling that America is slowly sinking into the swamp of corruption and laws and common sense are in short supply. Okay, it is also obvious that the lack of civil rights is deliberately undermined from "above". No "political education" in schools. Fast, superficial reporting by the media - which of course also caused the downfall of the newspapers. In a fast-paced time, in which everyone only reads the headline and hardly cares about background information - the freedom of the citizens can also be beautifully trampled underfoot. America, the land of limited opportunities, or freedom only in exchange for dollars. Absolutely crazy and unbelievable.

By the way: America has never been a democracy. America is a two-party state with a constitution, but has no enshrined laws. Laws can be interpreted differently and are therefore like chewing gum. The structure of administrations corresponds to a "third world country" Just as an example: How can it be that you can call yourself a policeman with only 6 months of training and without knowing the constitution - crazy ?! In addition, how can it be that you have to elect police and fire chiefs? Education and experience should be the goal. Independent experts (police) who, as civil servants, guarantee the rights and duties - no elected people can do that. Will anything ever change on this sinking ship "America"?

I concur in your choice of event to cover; the Super Mayor is nothing but a broken record and offers little salience on anything, well, salient. I would, however, be less forthcoming with praise for Carlisle. While her accounting of events is very much appreciated and valuable, and her recent behavior/voting is more moral/ethical, let us not forget that was not always the case. She did participate with Henyard in hurting many people and possibly committing crimes. Her recent actions are but a calculus on her part for self-preservation, not civic duty. As always, your productions are always first-rate and well worth all of our time. The invitation to publish The Cocoa Beach Journal (if we don't blow away tomorrow) is always open.

It’s very common for someone like Trustee Jones to resign whenever there is corruption. I’m not saying that’s what is happening, but the reason why it done is because they know dishonest things are going on and it’s much safer for them to resign and be out of the picture. It will be interesting to see where he lands at the end of this because, if he is complicit, even if it was early on and he turned to the good, he’s still liable. Just sayin’.

She zipped it up, and he died inside of the suitcase. She went through 8 public defenders. Was ordered by judge to be a pro se defendant. Now she has outside council. Thinking it’s pro bono.

It may not be that easy - if you don’t know, there are more than 17 cities, villages, and unincorporated towns in Thornton Township. All of those places should have a legal say in what happens.

@@MrJbee73, that's fair. I'll admit, I was also skeptical about Carmen. She made a speech at a board meeting one night and apologized to residents for the harm that had been caused, and she promised to do better. I assumed she was campaigning and didn't put much stock in what she said. Later, in a separate conversation after a meeting on a different night, Carmen told me that she didn't even know Tiffany before she began working for her. I forget what she said her previous job was, but Tiffany was impressed with her customer service skills and asked if she would accept a job as her assistant, in her position as mayor. Carmen says, "I believed in Tiffany. I honestly believed she was going to do good things for the village." But when she started hearing Tiffany say things that didn't match the private meetings she'd been in on (like about the cancer foundation), she started asking questions. Carmen is in a unique position: She was trusted by Tiffany with insider information, and now she is in a position of some power where she can stand up to Tiffany. She only has the power of one vote on the board, but when she has a chance to speak up publicly, she does.

🤷‍♂️ ~ WTF. Why would the trustee resign knowing that the mayor gets to replace them on the board with someone else. That’s extremely suspicious. You could say they just can’t deal with all the stress anymore but that’s difficult to believe. I wonder if someone has dirt on that trustee or is giving some cash under the table.
