it really shocks me to see the seeming difference between Lansing and Dolton. Lansing appears to be run professionally with competent people interested in improving the community for its citizens as opposed to bribing for votes. the demographics between the two communities are similar, but there couldn't be a starker contrast in governance. the reasons for that difference would make an interesting study.
@lansingjournal2 күн бұрын
Yes, that WOULD be interesting! You are correct that the demographics of Dolton and Lansing are very similar. In fact, I remember hearing public commenters at Dolton meetings saying that they chose to live in Dolton because it was such a stable community, a nice small town. They expressed anger that such nonsense was happening in the village they planned to settle down and retire in. And I remember thinking, if it can happen to Dolton, it could happen to Lansing. I do think having a local newspaper has been a difference-maker for Lansing. But I'm sure there are other factors at play as well.

So why does Tiff Tiff keeps says 85% of the residents voted her in? Or is that Thornton I’m thinking about.
@lansingjournal5 күн бұрын
Henyard was elected as Dolton’s mayor in the April 6, 2021, election - a race in which she claims she won 82% of the vote. (According to 2020 Census data and verified results of the April 6, 2021, general election, Henyard was elected by 9.5% of the Dolton community. She did win 82% of registered voters who came out to vote on April 6.)

🤷♂️ ~ WTF. Why would the trustee resign knowing that the mayor gets to replace them on the board with someone else. That’s extremely suspicious. You could say they just can’t deal with all the stress anymore but that’s difficult to believe. I wonder if someone has dirt on that trustee or is giving some cash under the table.

@lansingjournal10 күн бұрын
@@MrJbee73, that's fair. I'll admit, I was also skeptical about Carmen. She made a speech at a board meeting one night and apologized to residents for the harm that had been caused, and she promised to do better. I assumed she was campaigning and didn't put much stock in what she said. Later, in a separate conversation after a meeting on a different night, Carmen told me that she didn't even know Tiffany before she began working for her. I forget what she said her previous job was, but Tiffany was impressed with her customer service skills and asked if she would accept a job as her assistant, in her position as mayor. Carmen says, "I believed in Tiffany. I honestly believed she was going to do good things for the village." But when she started hearing Tiffany say things that didn't match the private meetings she'd been in on (like about the cancer foundation), she started asking questions. Carmen is in a unique position: She was trusted by Tiffany with insider information, and now she is in a position of some power where she can stand up to Tiffany. She only has the power of one vote on the board, but when she has a chance to speak up publicly, she does.
@MrJbee7310 күн бұрын
@@lansingjournal Okay I can appreciate what you said but I also as an outsider looking in I have a question are we sure the feds are not pressing her as she just don't wanna get in trouble? But if it comes out that she was doing wrong alongside Tiffany then she is no more than a snitch but we shall see as it plays out...

This story has gripped the nation. You have been a calm, trusted voice throughout this saga and I appreciate that even though I’m in Charleston, SC🏖️The boldness of Tiffany Henyard’s actions are appalling. She surrounded herself with people who were willing to go as low as she does. Exposing what’s really going on is so important. True investigative journalism is rare today, with syndications publishing the exact same articles across the country. Thank you! ❤

Not sure why you're on my feed. Sounds like the usual corruption, but once evacuated, more will come in. Probably on a side you agree with. Not your fault but there is no natural vacuum on earth. You can fight human nature all you want, but, as a modern journalist you're naturally an activist. I will say you're clever. Working for the story without explicitly stating your motive. I'd say you were impartial but you're obviously local. Here in the south, we have broad view of how money and power corrupt. Race doesn't matter. Age doesn't matter. Now greed, that spells out everything that goes on. It isn't going anywhere anytime soon. You seem intelligent enough to know this. It's probably why you'll run for Mayor.

It’s very common for someone like Trustee Jones to resign whenever there is corruption. I’m not saying that’s what is happening, but the reason why it done is because they know dishonest things are going on and it’s much safer for them to resign and be out of the picture. It will be interesting to see where he lands at the end of this because, if he is complicit, even if it was early on and he turned to the good, he’s still liable. Just sayin’.
