This was the Hay Mate Concert in 2019. It was a concert by Aussie artists to help raise funds for the Aussie farmers in Northern Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland who had been going through one of the worst droughts in history. Livestock were dying and farmers were taking their lives. Devastating. John was one of the key performers. He came back again in 2020 for the Fire Fight Concert to help raise money for those affected by the insane fires that devastated so much of Victoria and New South Wales that summer. Many of those in the band backing John for both concerts are from his original line up many years ago and have always played with him. Brett Garsed on Guitar, Angus Burchell on drums & backing singers Lindsay Field and Lisa Edwards.

@Chrissy Lee. Those fires destroyed Queensland first about a month before they got to other States and they kept going while the other States burned. We had to prepare to evacuate about 6 times during those fires until I pointed out the only way we could go was on the beach. All roads were cut by fire for us to leave. I never want to see that again and I was really sick because I am allergic to wood smoke. The Doctor and the hospital were on the other side of the fires. I still don’t know how the Sikh people got through with two trucks. They cooked day and night for the Fire Fighters and the people that couldn’t leave the beach. They supplied all of the food. They are really lovely. We were so lucky to get through that.

And then a 12 hour surgery towards the end of 2022 (Aug?) to remove a mouth cancer. His family, and friend Gaynor Wheatley, have given updates - his vocal chords are unaffected, he's singing round the house, and a few months ago John said he was cancer free. The best news ever. But apparently lots of rehab, possibly other tidy up surgeries to come? Just get fully well, John, and have a long and happy life with your family and friends. And if you sing in public again - you've got guaranteed audiences. For life. Jan. '24. UK. E❤

This was a song that John actually did with Queen. They sent John the music and when he had finished the vocals and sent it back to Queen, they loved it so much that they added the extra section to the end of the song. John was also asked to join Queen as there lead vocalist around the time that he recorded this song with them

At 70yrs old.... seriously.... he even sings in the same key !! Such a legend. Thank you Matt... for exposing more people to our Farnsey ! Unfortunately with our climate, our farmer do it tough most years... but there's always that bad drought period like this one where it's just so much worse for them... This concert helped a heap to keep a some of them solvent for a while.... It obviously wasn't enough to help all of them- our country is enormous.

G'day Matt, I will answer the question you asked , I watched the show on the TV , at the time we were in a 7 year drought as low as 6 inch in a year of rain and Hay was getting thin on the ground and the price of a 1/2 tone bail went from $ 50.oo upto a peak of $ 275.oo +transport , I like many destocked our property's as I ran out of water in the dams and feed prices was a starting to bite , but nowdays the drought isn't over but I have put in a new Dam and seeded the paddocks , we have had some good rain over the past 2 years and for the first time in many years I have green waist hight fodder in the paddocks and my Dams on the property are full and I am looking at restocking this year , life on the land (farm) has its up and downs but we pull through most things but some times we do need help and support , but for myself I see a few years of building up the herd's again and build up the Hay stock from the paddock, Gary , Fairyland Queensland Australia

Hey Matt, Glad you enjoy John Farnham… as an Aussie I grew up listening to his music. Only really started to appreciate John as a performer when my partner (now wife) suggested we go to his concert in 1993… we were totally blown away. Back then the rest of the world didn’t here too much of what happens in Australia. But, now with the power of KZbin and reactions such as yours, our Aussie talent is getting more exposure.

Matt, you are such a sweetheart; you always make me smile, and sometimes I really need a smile or a good laugh. The first time I heard We Will Rock You, it was sung by the magnificent Linda Ronstadt. I didn't know then that it was a Queen song. Speaking of Queen, I just learned that Brian May has been diagnosed with Covid-19 and is having a hard time of it. I also learned that Il Divo singer Carlos Marín has died from it after being hospitalized and put into a medical coma. So sad. He was only 53. Hope all is well with you and yours.

Yes, we just want to hug him but we don’t. Aussies give our stars their space. Right now we have Julia Roberts and George Clooney making a movie not far from me. I would never intrude in their work space or their time off. That was one of the Hay Mate concerts and I think John was 70 there. It makes me sad when I see him getting older and then I remember I am not that far behind him. Our farmers went through a very long drought. Many lost everything and everyone helped however they could. Some are still in that drought. Many semi trailer truck drivers or you call them 18 wheelers took the hay to them for free. Out further road trains took the hay to them. That is five 18 wheelers joined together with one truck in front. Most people could afford to pay for one bale of hay. So many cattle and sheep were starving and dying of thirst but the farmers were going without to give to them first. So other help was born like giving a farmers wife something simple like shampoo or moisturiser, things they hadn’t had for a long time. We took care of the farmers too and the kids. One wealthy guy who owned a winery saw a family on a farm with 5 daughters. They were given a quota of water each a day for washing and they gave it to their animals. He had the inside of a wine cask made the size of an 18 wheeler and then he filled it with pure spring water and had it taken to them. They were so excited to see so much water and it was all for them. They called every neighbour in trouble and shared it. We have a community page on FB that is just for something home made by a farmers wife. If we need a gift for someone that is where I buy. I watched family lose a sheep station to drought. I saw what it did to them all. People like John will not let it happen again. A lot of people will not let it get that bad again. A lot of them got the rain in the last month. It came days before harvest and they lost their crop, it turned into floods that are still going. Our land can be great or very harsh. There isn’t always an in between.

Farnsey has a legendary song "You're the Voice" which I guess is where him being called The Voice stems from. If you haven't already then do yourself a favour and watch him sing that. The Nickname Farnsey came from when he was doing a Duet with another great Aussie rocker called Jimmy Barnes or Barnesy, hence they became Barnesy and Farnsey 😀 John is about as True Blue Aussie as you can get, a great ambassador for our nation........................and man, can he sing 🤪

When I was a little girl of about 9 or 10 my father was a taxi driver here in Australia and I remember him bringing me home an autographed picture of John Farnham and boy don't I wish that I had it now. My mother was terrible for throwing out things that she thought I wasn't using so I'm pretty sure who the culprit was. We knew nothing about John Farnham the man just singer and my father said that he was the loveliest man that he had ever had in his taxi. Years later when I was a mother, my daughter who was 15 at the time (35 now) came to me and asked me if she could work at a wedding as they were short staffed and needed workers and it was only the one night, so I gave her permission to do so. My daughter was/is a very sweet, quiet girl so when the women asked her to wait on John and his wife's table (along with others) and because they were too nervous to do it, she agreed. She knew that he was famous but that didn't really concern her, she just wanted to do her job. John absolutely adored her. So both my father and my daughter have met John and both said that he is an extremely lovely man. My dad passed a long time ago.

A couple of months ago, John had his left jaw removed. John, from the '70s, is a great comedian, not up himself, has no scandals, married since 1973 and could make a song different. With this, for charity, I like Freddie's better. But watch what he did with The Beatles "Help: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mqeYZZqfhLiFgdU John also has his own songs. John, take care mate. Love.

What is going on with the farmers in Australia? 2015 (or thereabouts) to 2020 drought; February 2019 to January 2020 (and various other earlier times) bushfires; 2021 mouse plague; 2021 floods; plus 2021 Chinese boycott of Australian barley, beef and wine.
