Give me old time gospel and spirituals any day. Many of the spirituals and gospel speak of what we are to do for God opposed to what we want from HIM. This made me smile and think of my ancestors in the fields.

Let me tell you.. I left America shortly after high school... I've lived Tokyo...London...Madrid and Amsterdam. I've been all over....from Asia to Africa. I've had dinner with Russian Billionaires, I've met Spanish nobility and I've even eaten in the best restaurants in Paris. I've taken so many pictures of my experiences ....it could last a lifetime. But no picture was as clear to me as the picture I saw when this song began. I saw 7 year old me....at my grandfather's church, (that was a converted gas station..). in Emporia Virginia. That thing had to have been built in 1908. Lolol It had red wooden floors...that squeaked sum'n terrible.... wooden benches that used to rock me to sleep from the rhythmic stomp of the elders on those longggg slowww drawn out songs. Man....the heat..the humidity...the smell of jerry curl...lol...man i remember the 2nd-hand air I would get from my father's rhythmic wave with his fan.... and the rub of my mom's polyestered shoulder while she swayed. This song has humbled me.

Reminds me of my grandfather's congregation in Kentucky when I was little boy. People shouting and old folks swaying back and forth while the Holy Spirit moved through the building. I miss those days when church was church, farmers came in from the fields to give thanks to the Lord while the older ladies were cooking and singing in the back.
