HEYYY, I recognize the comics they got for Splinter, those were the Archie TMNT Adventures comics, with the front one being one with a story done by Stan Sakai, and a cover by Ken Mitchroney! That series was a mixed bag of quality, but overall I really enjoy them for the most part. Definitely grittier than you would expect at first glance....usually. XD

The 1987 series was told they couldn't do a Christmas once they jumped to CBS because the one restriction Eastman and Laird put on the show was no rescue Santa episodes. Well that and the rumor that writers wanted to be a little more open with Irma's religion but CBS's standards and practices wouldn't allow any discussion of religious themes PERIOD. (Part of why they lagged behind Fox cartoons of the same time.)
