This is the easiest first step in fixing the very common problem with old Chevy trucks. Terrible air flow through the vents. It's not the blower motor's fault. It's just old, and we need to address a few things in order to get it up to par.

1999 k2500, I pulled the blower and with a tooth brush and soapy water in a spray bottle. There's a opening at the bottom so the water leaks out , you can see it fr outside the vehicle. Sprayed the inside with yard hose. Sprayed soapy water. Light scrub a dub. Rinse. And it looked and operated like new. I did have my daughter (tiny hands and arms do the scrubbing) to be fair. Thanks for the video.

You can also remove cowl vent on top towards the firewall and vacuum all the leaves , debris whatever might be blocking your air from entering your fresh air into the hvac assembly. Also clean the drains that exit towards the engine compartment. One just below the coolant overflow tank and the other on the opposite side same location. Hope this helps y’all also. 🙏👍

Consider instead of degrease and water, set vent setting knob to face/upper body, take dash off, take all vent registers off and plug all but center one with rags, take blower motor out and get in there with appropriate brush and while brushing put nozzle of strong leaf blower into center nozzle. While you're brushing all the stuff you knock off will blow out toward you. I did this and got a perfectly clean evaporator.

You are so smart, this morning pulled blower off, not easy, same thing with that top bolt but I got it out. I was looking for the grid evaporator to clean it as my blower could blow higher. shoot didn't know it was to the left. 98 Silverado 1500. will do when it's cooler. probably my seals are old too. ty God Bless

There's even more you can't get to. The best, and hardest, way to take care if it is to pull the HVAC box out, which requires pulling the dash. Then replace the evaporator. I would advise replacing the actuator motors also if you do. Definitely put a fine screen on the outside to catch this stuff before it gets inside.

I did the same things you did but went a step further. Layed a large trash bag on the floor, sprayed the evaporator with simple green and let sit for an hour. took my water hose with a hose end sprayer and literally washed out the evaporator.and this also cleared any left over debris out of the drain as well. Works like new

@Frank DuBois removed blower motor, sprayed with simple green and let sit for half an hour, used hose end sprayer and sprayed gently for a couple minutes and made sure water came out of drain on firewall as well. Dried as much of box area as possible and let sit over night to properly dry. Replaced motor clean smalls good and blows harder thru vents. First clean out all debris you can, kinda iffy to get your hand in to all the areas but worked great.

Good video a lil too in depth for me but very informative nice job cause I suck at wiring lol oh quick tip of the day a toothbrush or soft brush lay some towels in the floorboard and stick a water hose in there and blast it it will come out of the water drain underneath if not you can use hose to unclog it.

I was hoping to easy an "after clean" shot of the evaporator. I have a 1990 silverado and I am going to have to do exactly yhe same thing. If it is really bad, I may go ahead and pull the whole box out just so I can get it sparkling. Thanks for the video!!

Use an old soft toothbrush and a good cleaner like Simple Green to clean the evaporator and spray with a garden hose on low pressure with a spray nozzle on a wide pattern .protect your carpets with old dry bath towels. The drain should drain any water to the outside under the vehicle.

2-04-2022 Get a large sheet of plastic cover the front passenger seat , center console , front floor and be prepared to get wet it's just water. Spray purple Degreaser on it and brush it with a bathtub brush and get the garden hose and spray water in from the opposite side or ,either side for about 5 minutes it will clean off.

I have a 92 Chevy k 1500 Silverado this morning I removed my blower motor and jam the Shop-Vac holes in there it angled it around the best I could and I took a picture afterwards and it looked completely clean it was just as dirty as his. I haven't tried this but I wonder if you could shove a cabin filter in through the blower motor hole just an idea but regardless my heater is blowing better than it was I would put it on recirculate I can feel all the airborne back out to the event by the blower it's supposed to be sucking air in

I’ve got a 97 GMC sierra. When I first start up the truck and turn the blower switch to high I get a little bit of water spurt out to the passenger floor. Is that it AC drain pipe issue? I’m trying to diagnose an intermittent overheating issue with this truck. I have back flushed the heater core I replace the thermostat I replaced the temperature sending unit I replace the coolant temp sensor and I have no leaks. But intermittently the truck will start to overheat and the hot air will turn cold. Eventually it straightens out and it’s fine but I’m still scratching in my head as to why this keeps happening I don’t like having to stare at the temperature gage while I drive the truck out of fear it may start to overheat. Hopefully I can get some good information from you and others I’ve asked. Thanks. Man!

My blower fan stoppes working. It would work then barely work then i hit it with a rubber hammer and it would work but now it sounds like it turns on but isnt blowing any air at all. But you can hear it turn on. Going to try what u did and take it out to see whats wrong

Tested mine. 11 with the truck off and 12.3 with it on. Both times on full blast. Does that sound good, I’m having weak flow after resealing yo my lower damper and cleaning behind the blower.
@GeneralBungus
@GeneralBungus 2 жыл бұрын
see I think this is the issue on my truck, but my dad thinks otherwise. The fans arent blowing very much and it takes a bit for the high to actually kick on compared to the low or the medium setting. its a 1992 silverado and ive never been in any other one. im just not too sure if those trucks are just weak with the fans or its just the motor blower. some fans sound like they are puting out a lot of air but the center two are not, or sometimes all of them are just weak, even on high they are weak.

Use a soft bristle tooth brush with your favorite cleaner to clean out the condenser. I use Greased Lightning to do this along with a towel under the condenser. Fold the towel sever times to catch the overflow from the hose pip. DO NOT GET TO AGGRESSIVE with hose pipe.

@IamDerick
@IamDerick 3 жыл бұрын
Oh yes, removing the heater box is not an easy task (for my truck at least), the first step requires going to someone that can recover the refrigerant. On my 90 Silverado the dash is a nightmare to remove. It helps to have two people. With older dashes, most likely, you will break stuff so have a plastic welder to fix them. New foam seals can be had at LMC truck or weather foam cut to size and put down with spray adhesive. Any AC lines you disconnect, bag and zip tie the ends to keep crap out. Once the dash is out get your heater box out. At this point why not just replace the Evap and cap the ends. If you heater core looks like it has any pin hole leaks replace that too. You really do not want to go in again do you? Also while the box is out remove the top bolt of the air door actuator and throw it out. If that actuator dies it is damn near impossible to remove with the heater box installed and works perfectly fine without it. Reinstall the box and dash. Let the person who recovered your refrigerant hook everything back up because you will need new seals then they check for leaks plus they will know how much compressor oil needs to be added back into the system. Note: The Haynes manual for this vintage of truck states you can remove the heater box without taking the dash out. Well for a 1990 k2500 4x4 Silverado if you can do it my hat is off to you. I just got done doing this so order your parts first and give yourself a solid weekend and keep sensitive ears away from the cussing. Great video. Cheers.

Soooooo the conclusion on the blower motor. Was it weak after all? Because when you wrapped it up, you should have said that the blower mower was part of the problem and their was a restriction at the coils also.

Have you ever run across any problems in these your mom pickup swear the AC is engaging has plenty of fluid wants to get cold but it's not. Almost act like the HVAC control module for temperature control is not working and is stuck half cool half hot vi Vehicles AC going down the road is only approximately 65 degrees
@Js-rq9uj
@Js-rq9uj 4 жыл бұрын
if the ac knob is a potentiometer type dial, you could try turning it all the way hot to all the way cold a couple times real quick and fiddle around with it in the cold portion. turning the dial makes the wiper arm of the potentiometer brush the resistor coil and helps to clean off oxidization.
