They’re both very popular singers in the Philippines. Kyla has been around since the early 2000’s while Daryl is more current. Of course they are not known globally. It’s very different when it comes to exposure. For artists from the US, the whole world is their audience. The whole world is their stage and their market. While artists from small countries like the Philippines are limited to their country only. Does not make them any less talented, just not as known. Great singers have been around in the Philippines forever. It’s only now that they’re gaining notice thanks to the internet. Pop singers over there have their own original songs, but they do sing a lot of covers as well, to fill-in for the demand of the audience to hear live performances of pop songs from the US. Coz of course, it’s very rare that US artists would go to the Philippines to sing live. So local artists fills the gap. That explains why they have US equivalent artists over there.

Kyla is an A lister in the Philippines. Daryl, tho very talented, is not. He's at most a B lister. The main reason being that he doesn't have his own music that charted in the local charts. Kyla on the other hand, was an artists who a lot of us remembers our teens years with. For the most part, Daryl appear on shows doing covers and making his own covers like this. And it's given him internet notoriety. If you're wondering why Daryl doesn't have his own music mainly because, music producers only bank on established artists and secondly, Daryl's style of singing. While impressive, it's not the type of singing that lends well to the type of songs said producers produce.

He did have original songs - on a known music label but the scene there looks like variegated stew. He's left that label and is now a budding record producer. He knows and is aware of the glass ceiling that the local music industry has and is trying, in his own way, to navigate that. He now does have a couple of original songs on his youtube channel - released without the backing of a big music label. Birthing pains - from the number of views it has but that's the path he has chosen. *'BALANG ARAW'* and *'SA PANAGINIP LANG'* - his own compositions.
