If you have the Quattro, the rear strut mounting brackets can rust. They may show what looks like a bit of thickening on the edges but when probed the whole horizontal plate can be damaged. Fairly simple repair though.

On the front-wheel drive, the rear pillar brackets also rust, despite the fact that they are made of aluminum
