I love the small detail that, although for most weapons the Octoling looks more excited due to not being able to do turf wars, the Inkling also gets excited with the Stringer and Splatana, since they're brand new weapons for the Inklings too.

Interestingly, the octoling seems more experienced with the splatana (examining its quality by checking how straight it is), since that’s very similar to some weapons the octarians used in a few places in 2

I really like this detail. It shows the Octolings are having fun in Inkling society, while for the Inkings this is fairly routine for them, which is explains why they aren't as energetic as the Octos. However something I noticed is that these roles are kind of reversed when it comes to the new weapon classes (Stringers and Splatanas). For the Octolings, still somewhat getting acclimated to the surface, they probably feel these new weapons require more thorough testing before having fun, whereas the Inklings are excited to finally try something different, as their whole society is based around the idea of keeping things "fresh" (this difference is more apparent with the Stringers than Splatanas). This kind of attention to detail is the reason why I love games so much.

from what i can tell, the inklings are more tactically-minded, testing their weapon's strengths and weaknesses. But the octolings are still new to the sport, hence holding the charger incorrectly, using the brella like a bat, seeing if the slosher's ink would fall out, etc

Inklings handle the weapons like they’re using something they know and swing it around as a test drive, while octolings handle the weapons like they’re thrilled to put them to use, anticipating how they’ll use it instead of adjusting to the weapon.

Ironic since, canonically the Octolings are typically the smarter of the 2, at least for the most part, I mean in the chat logs in Octo Expansion they mention how Octolings in the Octarian Army are well known for their proficiency and intelligence when it comes to weaponry, while Inklings are usually just using them for fun

I love how the octolings seem to be really excited to be able to mess around with weapons and take part in turf war/anarchy battles since they never got the chance to in the past. It’s just really heartwarming to me and shows how much detail Nintendo puts in to it :)

To put it in more perspective: Native Splatlandian Inklings & Octolings have been living in peace together for a long time, while the Inkadian Inklings and Octo Valley/Canyons Octarians & Octolings were at war with each other since the Great Flood and the Great Turf War. Since the Valley & Canyon Octolings have been freed thanks to Calimari Inkantation, and to an extent Agent 8 who was trapped in the Deep Sea Metro, those Octolings get to experience a fun way to participate in Turf War battles.

Regular Octarians still live in deteriorating domes, all the while Octolings who have heard the calamari Inkantation abandon their old lives for a new, including abandoning families and friends. The Calamari Inkantation is a song hard-wired into the DNA of both Octarians and Inklings, carrying the Human’s desires to go back to the surface, something which unfortunately, they couldn’t do. When an Octarian hears the Calamari Inkantation, they’re not leaving the Octarians because they see the oppression (which frankly, there’s little to prove that despite the military lifestyle), or anything that the general fandom believes on, but because the song wires the Octarians to find a way to go back to the surface. When people say Octolings and Inklings are at peace, they completely forget one thing, the Octarians, the tentacle ones, who have families, feelings, goals, and a future, are not, and are still struggling with the power crisis down in the domes. Let’s also not mention as to how the Squid Vs Octopus splatfest is bound to leave a sour spot for the Octolings already living on the surface, and even the other Octarians if they ever caught a whiff of that story. All of that just solidifies what every Octarian was taught from a young age, from the propaganda sunken scrolls we see in Splatoon 1 and 2, the Poem Paradise Lost, written by Octolangelo, and the horrifying biology of an Inkling - the inklings as a species has shown the Octolings on the surface, and below, that they are not the most clever, and strive for competition even if that competition at the end of the day is meaningless. Some inklings can’t even tell apart an Octoling from an Inkling, that alone is just disrespectful because it shows that they don’t care to learn more about the world around them, and to an extension, the Octarians. While the Inklings lavished and prospered for 100 years without doing anything else other than to win a war over land, the Octarians had to work for their position, and they rose, only to be continuously preyed upon by everyone else, from sanitation, to being Mammalized. The Octarians are truly the underdog in this world that just preys upon it.

Once again the devs showing the octolings military upbringing. The inkling look amazed and curious while the octoling feels like another walk on the park, but now only for fun. Specially with the heavy splattling animation, the inkling looks to be struggling a little to lift the weapon while the octoling already fake aiming targets.

I also really noticed this with the blaster and shooter animations. The Octolings do a full sweep while aiming the blaster while the Inklings quickly aim at two points. For shooters, the Octolings keep the weapon a lot closer to their body than the Inklings do. You can also see the Octolings spin the brush and roller to get a feel for the weight. Overall it looks like the Octolings know what they're doing/are more comfortable with the weapons overall while Inklings look like they're more there for style. Small details but i love stuff like that

@@timothygooding9544 welp, lorewise Octolings have military training since young age (Marina's backstory shows that) and they only started leaving the domes in great numbers after the event of octo expansion. These weapons variety means nothing to them because they were already trained into using them. The inkling in the bottom with the heavy splattling is feeling the weight and how to handle it, while it feels like nothing for the octoling. Octolings now are being able to experience the outside world and are having lots of fun with it. Like when changing shops, while inklings loose balance switching from shop to ship, octolings Just jump keeping perfect balance (but with a huge smile).

While inklings may be putting more thought into it and octoling just having fun, the octolings also show more experience and 'finess' with the weapons like with the slosher balance and how easily the octoling flips the dulies

Octolings also have the Splattershot close to there bodies/hips to help steady their aim, while the Inklings jut it out like a pistol. Also, while this one is way more subtle, Octolings look like they're slam the Splat Roller down to the ground, while Inklings kinda just lets it drop. I really love the subtle detail of these animations and how Octolings while more playful, show they're experience using weapons.

I think it shows the more strategy and powerful side of inklings showing that they seem to care more for the tactical uses and handling of each weapon. As they’ve been able to keep the octolings underground for so long they were probably raised knowing just how these weapons are meant to be used, whereas octolings are only now able to use these weapons for fun vs protection from the inkling race. Only the ones that fought beside Octavio would know how to use them effectively. Now all surface dwelling octolings get to use them for sport.

Tbh, inklings never actively kept Octolings underground, most inklings thought Octariens were extinct! The Octos clearly have never seen anything like Turf Wars, before they came to the surface I'd take an educated guess that battling with ink would be seen as purely military. The prospect of being able to muck around and simply focus on the fun of being able to use their own abilities with the inklings. partaking in these massive games curated for them must be so alien to them. it's truly paradise to them now, and they're so happy to be apart of it they can barely keep a bright smile off their face as they look at their new arsenal of toys.

I like how octolings have gone from kind of serious and closed off to peppy and upbeat, you can tell being around inklings has caused them to open up and now it's the opposite direction, inklings are more serious because they've been at this for a while, octolings meanwhile are real happy to be here I think the best example of this is how inklings seem to be feeling the weight of the weapon meanwhile octolings are just straight up messing around most of the time, inklings are still definitely playful, but there is motive in a lot of what they're doing here, even if they're having fun doing it

@@krakenofthesea106 I don't. The Octoling society was more militaristic (Marina being a weapons/trap engineer before the introduction of Inkling society is a good example) so lore-wise it matches up. Also, the Inkling animations usually show them just swaying the weapon back and forth just for the heck of it while the Octolings instantly see how the weapon feels when positioned correctly. Of course the Octolings are also kinda silly, but that would be why I said "subtly" in the original post. The subtle part is them doing stuff like holding the weapon in an attacking position after picking it up even though they aren't serious.

From what I could gather Inklings tend to examine their weapons before playing with them and they seem to wield their weapons with a bit more dexterity while Octoling take a small glance at the weapon but ultimately they mostly play around with them and they don't seem to fully understand their mechanics

i love this, especially with the splat charger. it shows that inklings have been playing turf wars longer of course and their handling of the weapon is still and steady. While the octoling is wobbly and clumsy with it. so cute 🥰
