The only way to understand just how beloved Dawkins is in Philly is to realize that when he returned to the linc for the first time since leaving the eagles, fans wore his broncos jerseys to the game. As a lifelong eagles fan, that does not usually happen.

One of my all-time favorite Eagles players. I was at the Eagles game against the Broncos when he returned to the Linc. Eagles fans went crazy. I have a Broncos Dawkins jersey and it's my most worn jersey.

The man was just a different breed 💪🏼. So electrifying on the football field from the pre-game entrances to the pre-game talks with teammates to the intensity to the hard hits. He’s the reason why I played safety and I am just so grateful to grow up and watch one of my favorite safeties game in and game out give it his all.

Everyone remembers the big hits and the absolute insanity that seemed to possess him when he played, but lost in all the highlights was just how disciplined Dawk was in coverage. I can probably count on one hand the number of times he made a mistake covering a receiver and allowed a big catch. One hand over a career that spanned a decade and a half.
