Wear Your Weaving!

This is my first video in a series aimed at helping weavers turn their handwoven fabric into a garment that both fits and feels good to wear. This session is an introduction to some short videos that will break my processes down to manageable steps.

How fascinating. I also like weaving narrower cloth, though I have a 42" floor loom. I have done rugs and blankets when need arises. Lately, I've been considering making cloth for my own clothing. It's frustrating not to find clothing I like in the store. I had the honor to learn under a master weaver about fifteen years ago. She also made all of her clothing. She was 98 when I last saw her, and still weaving. We spoke a few times after that, but her advice and encouragement are sorely missed. I'm glad you made this video. I know it's older, but I hope I can listen to more of your wisdom. 😊

@dianasmith8166 I was also lucky enough to be taught when I went to college, by a very nice teacher who showed me the basics of spinning and weaving, then left me to get on with it. That suited me, I like finding my own way of doing things. Now I feel that it's my time to pass it all on.....although I'm not 98 yet! Happy weaving 😀

Tlhis is so good of you! I have been weaving for a couple of years now, but I’m not much of a sewer. I would love to make a simple tunic. I have some silk hankies that I am spinning on a drop spindle and I’m planning on using that as weft with linen as warp. Have you woven with linen as both warp and weft? Me too. I prefer woven fabric other than knit, except for super fine knit which I don't want to do. I've taken my first class for rigid heddle from a great teacher. I like spinning fine so this channel is perfect and exciting.

@@southafricanrhino I'm afraid not at the moment, I'm not doing double weave yet. Most of my fabric is made on a rigid heddle loom, very simple, 1 heddle, to get people started.

You always make a mock up before cutting and sewing your handwoven fabric. Say you’ve made alterations to your mock-up, how do you transfer them to your pattern or fabric? Do you have a video on the process? Just checking. I’ve seen for years, but have never had to alter a pattern except for length.

I unpick the mock up if necessary, but with all the alterations marked in pen or pencil. Usually I just measure everything. I have a booklet Making a Mock Up which explains most of this, but I'll add it to my list of videos. Thanks for the suggestion 👍👏

Hi Susan, I'm afraid nothing is clear at the moment, I've just written to our MP to ask for his help. I'm thinking I'll have to use a different carrier but they're all considerably more expensive for single items. I'm waiting until the end of this week then I'm going to make a decision 🤞🤞🙏

It's a 20in Ashford Knitters loom, you should be able to get it from an Ashford supplier(I don't know what country you're in). I weave most of the fabric for my clothes on it.
