Sad and beautiful in equal measure. Amazing piece of work.

Through your channel I've discovered a few places I didn't know existed and have ventured out to find them. Excellent work thank you.

Thanks Adam, I only knew of a few but came across a book called 'The Disappearing Farms of Weardale by Christine Ruskin. It's filled with details of these buildings, who lived there, when, and map references.. I've met Christine and she had me fly and photograph a few places and included a couple of them in her revised edition.

@@assessorjohn Thanks for that, John. I've found Christine's Facebook and will keep an eye out for the book now shops are opening again. Weardale really captures my imagination. I understand that there was mass deforestation in the past, resulting in the miles of moorland we see today, but unsure when the bulk of this would've happened. When did Weardale's overall landscape begin to resemble what we see today?

@@hebfkwkk During the Neolithic period and Bronze Age apparently, for agriculture. I know that the lack of trees and readily available stone is the reason for the local lead, zinc and fluorite mines being lined with stone arching instead of timber supports.

I wonder if any were ever saved from complete neglect and destruction by the elements. If only I were younger!!! Brilliant projects.

Yes, a few have been restored or modernised - none of those in the video though.

There is one that has been taken down and recently rebuilt at Beamish - it is called Spains Field
@assessorjohn4 жыл бұрын
Haha well that explains things a bit! I did a flight last year which included Thrush Nest and Laverock Seat. I had intended to video Spains Field at the same time but couldn't find it even though it's quite clear on the old maps, now I know why!

Looking forward to being able to get out and about with mine again soon! Lovely part of the world! I'm North West based! Liked and Subscribed! I am using the Mavic 2 Zoom! I have some drone videos on my channel if it's of any interest?

Nice compilation, I don't recognise any of those buildings.

Thanks for watching and leaving a comment. All but two are in Weardale, those two (Sandyford and Belmount) are over the hill, just West of Muggleswick common. I think you can see all of them on an OS map.

Hi, I'm not sure what that means., You can use the clips for anything so long as it's not monetised.
