One of Ferrari's long term weaknesses seems to be in season development. If you go back to the days of Vettel it seemed that even if they started the season level with or ahead of Mercedes on performance, by the end of the season they had slipped behind. I don't know what the issue is, but I never feel confident that they will maintain early season pace relative to the other teams.

"Charles was recently considered a championship contender," by who?!? No one is threatening Max consistently. He's got 70% of the pole positions for the year and 70% of the wins... Without a useful wingman to upset the strategies of the other teams. Yes, McLaren has been closer. But they're not faster yet... And last I checked Charles didn't drive for McLaren. So I don't see how that makes him a contender. If anything, it's hinders his chances more. Yes, Charles won in Monaco. But that's the stupidest race of the season. In fact with the red flag and no pitstops, that's the stupidest race of this century, bar the 21 spa "race" behind the safety car in the rain. Yes, Max only finished 6th in Monaco (his worst finish of the year). But everyone has off weekends and he was clearly faster than George and maybe even Lando in the race. But it's just Monaco. We couldn't tell how fast he really was as there was no overtakes in the Monaco train. He could very well have been the fastest car in the race, but the fat lumps that are the current F1 cars are too wide for overtakes on those streets. So where the heck has Charles been considered a championship contender?!? His points gap to Max has only been going one way at every race except Australia and Monaco. That's 8:2 in favour of Max... And one of those was a mechanical for Max. Ferrari is quick this year. But let's not pretend like they've actually pegged back the gap to redbull enough to be taken seriously as a contender.

Let's revisit this video later. Ferrari is very good in optimizing their package. It is clear that they threw a lot of new stuff onto the car. And that new stuff is clearly unoptimized. Yes, they gained a few tenths, which was in line with what they expected. Everyone saw a completely new car and immediately expected them to fly. It doesn't work that way in todays F1. You are restricted with the budget, with the wind tunnel and with testing time. I believe they will use next few races to optimize new parts, and most importantly the setup of the car since the new parts changed their aero mapping. They are a bit in the blind now, but I expect them to start showing much better form as we approach mid-season break.

Replace Max with any other driver and Red Bull would be 4th at best. Are you guys even watching the races? Lando Norris even said it for you after the Canada race and Spain race... 'We had the fastest car but Max is too good'. Ferrari drivers are excellent, The car is excellent. There are many highly competent people in the team but there are some weaknesses in the garage and on pit wall. The audio broadcast is damning. Mercedes were always competent in most areas but again have had significant personnel changes and are coming up to speed again. McLaren have the best car but not the best drivers. Probably the 4th best driver team. Any team with Max in it is the best. Ferrari and Mercedes is very hard to choose from. I lean towards Ferrari because Hamilton is below his best. Hamilton replacing Saintz looks like a downgrade or par swap at best unless it can attract Newey as well. Only then will it be a good move.
