Wearing Redemptorist Habit

I was a Redemptorist novice in Ococonomoeoc WISCONSIN ...in the summer, we had to wear them to chapel and classes...summers are very hot and humid...so chapel was an endurance test. We were right by lake. I used to wear cut off jeans underneath my habit. In winter time, it was cold in chapel so that habit was a plus indeed. In June 1977 my habit rosary disappeared from my room at st Alphonsus college suffield ct. I was allowed to keep my habit cross upon my departure from CSsR.

We were blessed with a healthy baby boy through the intercession of Sainr Gerard Majella and I was looking for an explanation of the redemptorist tunic to create something like it for my son and this is perfect!! God Bless you!

our priests in the Philippines don't even bother wearing their habits or cassocks or collar, nothing. I'm from the Philippines btw. one even wears a see through shirt, skinny pants, and fashionista shoes.

This is quite true. I am Filipino too, from Antipolo. I am not a priest or religious, but I was confused for a brother because I was dressed nice, and wore a cross around my neck. Let's just continue to encourage our priests who do wear the habit, so they don't stop. I heard they get teased for "being too holy."

You know why? Thanks Vatican II Council which protestantized the Church. With the new "Mess" you don't need all those things to do, the priest now is a mere person and he doesn't even have to bother of wearing a cassock. I'm Filipino but I was born, raised and still live in Italy and I see many priests not wearing what should they wear, the cassock. I saw priests from many countries in countries which I have visited, the only who would wear the cassock are the traditionalist priests who administrate the Tridentine Mass, the only true Mass. The new Mass is theoretically a heresy, the Council of Trent stated that any modifications to the Tridentine Mass would be invalid. Now I only go to Traditionalists who conserve the true Catholic liturgy. This NO priests don't know what is the liturgy and for sure they wouldn't know how to administrate the Tridentine Latin Mass or even know Latin. The dad thing is tht many Catholics just follow the Church without realizing, same thing with Catholic Filipinos. You all should attend the Tridentine Mass, and I'm quite sure that you may not have experienced it.

I only saw the Orders of Franciscan Minors or the OFM, and the Capuchin Fathers do wearing their habit by the way. They are attractice and good looking so as to be recognized as priest and Holy men of God.

Cassocks were part of the Italian clerical culture so are 'habits '---18th century clerical dress. RC needs to update clerical uniforms

I never wore my rosary like that and we wore the habit daylong every day. The habit is a thing of pride.
