@@jfcoggins The relationship between functional societies and lower crime levels is very clear and well established. Deprivation creates crime. Here's a quote from the abstract of a 2021 article in Nature Scientific Reports (you can Google the title, "Why do inequality and deprivation produce high crime and low trust?"). Quote "Making the distribution of resources more equal or increasing social mobility is generally effective in producing a high cooperation, high trust equilibrium; increasing punishment severity is not". Its claims are based on a wide range of abundantly cited evidence. What do YOU think "works", and what evidence do you have for it? Violent crime isn't a new phenomenon, it's as old as mankind. It goes up and down for various reasons that aren't closely related to punishment. It was actually higher 30 or 40 years ago than it is now. In the 18th they hung, flogged and sent people to the colonies, but they still had a massive problem with violent theft of watches! (it's just that the criminals rode horses rather than mopeds and were called highwaymen...).

But if you have built a solid watch collection, involving key horological pieces, then Casio G-Shock MRG deserves its place. As an example, Rolex and Omega represent Swiss Watches in my collection. A. Lange & Sohn and Glashutte represent German Watches in my collection. Casio G-Shock MRG and Grand Seiko represent Japanese Watches in my collection. So in this instance, MRG is cheap.

So called decoy replica or homage watches are no good when out and about. The criminals scoping out your watch will not be able to work out if what you are wearing is genuine or not. If for instance it looks like a Sub, they will not take the time to figure out if it is or not. They'll just mug you for it anyway. In other words you make youself as big a target as if you were wearing the real thing. The only circumstance in which a decoy might be useful is in your home in case you get burgled. That way they take your decoys and will hopefully not search for where you keep your genuine pieces.

One thing that I do on occasions when I'm bored, and in a city I don't know, is I try to find a homeless person, spend some time chatting to them, and helping them in whatever way I can that is most appropriate for them. Recently I was visiting America, and was in a city that I won't name and had a really enjoyable afternoon chatting to a freshly released convict and another guy in the same area who was homeless. It's never even crossed my mind that I may be at risk of watch theft, however, I don't look like the type who would have an expensive watch, and because I'm deliberately in the areas of a city that has very few if any 'rich people', I guess I've been lucky! It won't do any harm to put my FW91 on next time I'm out assisting people....Probably be an hour or less before I end up giving it to someone LOL. Just for anyone reading this: ANYONE could be a couple of missed paydays or a relationship gone wrong from potentially being homeless, and it doesn't always take much to improve someones day! Sometimes, just 5 or 10 mins of your time, and acknowledging their existence is ALL it takes! IF you can help a homeless person, please do!

When we went to Europe recently we bought a pair of attractive 10 Euro watches and left the Swiss stuff home. They were fine. Hotel staff is a bigger threat than street thugs. Watches are obsolete anyway.

Yes, I never trust Hotel Staff, got money stolen once, a couple hundred euros. And another time I had a pair of pants and football jersey stolen. The hotel do not care when you tell them what happened. They will never be on your side. Both times in different countries I was told that their staff don't steal. And if I'm sure I lost it at their hotel. They said they would check cameras but nothing happened. I never got my money or clothes back. That is why I now always try to book Airbnb apartment when abroad. It's the safest method imo.

I don't wear replicas. Just wear a G-Shock on city areas you are unsure and "call it the day". Be inconspicuous if you decide to wear your Rolex (long sleeve shirts, plan your routes of travel, etc.). Bottom line "be street smart". You can always make sound choices while traveling abroad, mitigating risk, but the potential will always be there. In conclusion, enjoy your vacation and don't worry too much.

A few thoughts on the fake Rolex theme. First) A good fake Rolex is still expensive and probably still worthwhile for a thief. 2) Maybe if homage Rolexes got to be a real thing, the crooks might just assume that every nice-looking watch is, in fact, fake? 3) Sure, it's not worth losing your life over a fake watch, but still better than losing it over a real one.😅 One unintended byproduct of the smart watch proliferation is that it basically killed the budget and inexpensive fashion watch segment. As a result a thief can pretty much assume that anyone wearing a conventional watch instead of or in addition to a "smart" watch, is probably wearing something that's not cheap and possibly significant enough to steal! 😢

Most people not wearing a smartwatch are probably wearing a Casio. I can't think of anyone except for a few people comfortable with spending more than $20-30 for an every day watch. Us folks spending hundreds+ are quite frankly an exception to the general rule.

As a watch collector, I really like a lot of Rolex watches. For example, the Rolex Bluesy Sub looks fantastic. But I don't know if I would feel comfortable wearing it b/c it's flashy. So, the question to ask before buying any watch is, can you see really yourself wearing it? If not, of course, don't buy it! Choosing the right model of Rolex is crucial, especially considering how much money they cost. And personally, I would only buy from an AD versus trying to 'buy the seller' in the grey market. That said, we all know how difficult it is now days to buy Rolex at retail. So many folks have moved on!

Really simple: Don’t show your watch in town. If you’re wearing a nice watch, keep it covered by your sleeve. If you’re wearing short sleeves, wear a “beater” watch. I'm generally against wearing decoy but it depends on the location/risk/purpose. I've heard of some people have moissanite versions of their engagement rings for trips. Certainly expensive-looking watches attract unwanted attention in many places but looking too prosperous in general seems inadvisable in big cities here in the USA. A diamond ring, a gold bracelet or expensive shoes, jacket, or bag can make one a target. Leaving anything of value in a hotel room also seems risky. KZbin has several channels that will quickly dissuade one from leaving anything in a hotel safe. I leave my good pieces at home when I travel to Boston, New York City or even New Haven. The one place I feel comfortable wearing a nice watch is Aruba.

If I’m going to a place I’ve never been before, I’m not bringing one of my nicer watches, unless it’s an event, like a party or to someone’s house where I know I won’t be going out into the street. 2. I never wear one of my nicer watches while I’m wearing a short sleeve shirt. If I’m wearing a nice watch, I want to be able to hide it under my sleeve if I feel the need arises. If I’m wearing short sleeves, then I’ll wear either an AppleWatch or no watch at all, people are less apt to steal a smart watch since they can be tracked.

I wear decoys, and while others may think the logic is flawed I despise thieves, when muggings happen its either a random nitty, or its a bunch of pleb chavs on mopeds. If I face the former I'm 100% defending myself and imparting some sense of justice because we all know the Police are the most pointless entity in London. If it's the latter you hand over the decoy. You obviously don't want to die from being mugged for a fake watch, but for any one that has been mugged before, the violation and humiliation can change a persons nature forever. You've earned the right to wear an authentic rolex so you should be able to wear it with safety in a modern society, sometimes you can't just hand over your property to a degenerate, otherwise the issue propels itself.

Actually thought one person was going to try something but I stared him down and kept my eyes on him as he fled. If you visit the markets in Istanbul they get crazy crowded and the streets are narrow. I had placed the watches there in case there was a break-in, hoping that they would be satisfied with these watches and then stop looking. And that's how it was. This is a good video! Serves as an informative guide to keep safe. I think at this day and age where senseless crime and violence is abound, it’s a good reminder to be aware of your surroundings.

Remember all this next time you vote! Twenty years ago this wasn't an issue in Europe! Ask yourself what has changed and who is doing all the robberies and violence. Vote accordingly.

You're absolutely right-Europe is declining due to its political decisions, and ordinary citizens are bearing the consequences. The most tragic part is the daily s€xu@l ass@ult$ women face from these individuals. It's shameful for Europe. I hope the people rise against these left-wing politicians. How can a society become so powerless that women are being r@p€d by migrants? Europe, wake up before it's too late.
