Exactly. I actually went to 3 different Rolex store to ask for a Datejust. I never wanted to beg someone to buy something but I was super nice to the AD. Of course all of the ADs I talked to promised to contact me when the watch I want is available. Well, they never did after many months. I didn’t call them either. Why do I have to beg them to sell me a watch when I have money? That’s crazy.
@lances4803Ай бұрын
What would you change?
@hollym44692 ай бұрын
None of these things happened to me. The AD never asked my job, never asked my reason for wanting the watch. She simply asked which models I was interested in, took my name and info, and 7 months later, she texted me that the watch was available. That's it. I went in the next day and bought the watch. As it turns out, I'm a vascular surgeon. I dress well but not "rich". I didn't know how to play the Rolex game, so I didn't play it. I gave my info, shook hands with the sales lady, and walked out of the store fully expecting never to hear back from them.
@knowcoiner5335 ай бұрын
The current situation with ADs is ludicrous. I've worn Rolex for more than 25 years but now I'm expected to beg, give insights into my business and lifestyle and wait months on end with no idea if there will ever be a call? Forget it. If you want 5 figures of my money you'd best step up and earn it not act like you're doing me some sort of favour. An AD gets 6 weeks, after that I'll just go grey.

They took my ID so they know where I live. I don't dress up when I visit but don't look like a tramp (jeans and a shirt is fine). IMO the most important things are to be genuinely interested in the watches (rather than their value) and to be friendly and relaxed. Talk about other things as well as watches. Common courtesy/politeness is enough. I genuinely enjoy my visits and get on really well with the Rolex Manager.

I'd find it easy to buy a Rolex from an AD. The reason for this is I have very narrow tastes in watches. I don't like diver's watches or anything with an engraved or rotating bezel, GMTs, chronographs, anything two tone or made of precious metals and don't like bling - pretty much every Rolex that re-sells at a premium is a watch I have no interest in and wouldn't ever wear.. . It makes it easy because the only Rolex watches I'd consider wearing are the Air King and the Oyster in plain SS and the ADs know I won't be handing it to a flipper because there's no money to be made in reselling either model. There isn't a waiting list for them either, because the ADs can't make extra profit selling them through the back door so there is no artificial shortage, I'm still looking at watches and may decide on Air King, but if an AD tries any 'are you a suitable customer for Rolex' or suggests I register on a waiting list I'll burst out laughing and walk out.

The look on the face of a watch dealer is priceless, when you pay for your Rolex in full on a basic credit card and it goes through. (Yes, you can boost up your credit limit by depositing funds to the credit card beforehand.)
@StreetPreacherr5 ай бұрын
Is that unusual? My MasterCard limit was just automatically increased incrementally to $25K over the years, and I never actually requested an increase. I figured it was just because I used the card fairly often, but never carried a balance, so they were probably hoping I'd eventually 'splurge' on something that I'd have to start paying interest on... I eventually had to request that they STOP automatically increasing the limit, because 'Credit Checks' actually consider your Income v.s. the POTENTIAL DEBT that you could accrue... So for instance, having a $50K limit can actually be 'detrimental', because it means that at any time you could immediately rack up $50K in debt and not pay it back. Debt is just crazy when you look into it. It's actually just a COMMODITY, that companies buy and sell just like any other 'investment'! lol Like if you were a 'debt collecting' business, you could probably actually 'purchase' your own debt for significantly less than the 'value'! Because these companies will 'BUY' your debt for 50% of the total amount, and then try to collect the full 100% from you to make their profit! Bring back the GOLD STANDARD!!! lol

The logic here does not add up. Why do you have to prove to them that you’ll be a repeat customer when they’ve got people in the tens of thousands waiting for one of their watches. The demand is there and should be sold to the next man up. If their goal is to fabricate supply/demand by selling to flippers and repeat customers, they’re going to lose market share. The reality here is that they are a watch brand that acts like a high end club and only wants specific type of people to wear their product. If that’s the case, then just shut down all your boutiques and stop wasting millions on advertising to the masses. You clearly already have your demographic you want to sell to. I live in Geneva and bought Rolexes at both at Bucherer and the Rolex store and the airport stores in ZH and GVA. What is the most important for the steel sports is to be a local resident, and to be genuinely interested and not a flipper, and to be patient and call every few months. A purchase history helps for rare watches like the Pepsi I guess. I got a SD 43 for my 50th, they took note of the date and called me 2 days before ❤… (that was the Rolex store, I waited two years, I had bought a Datejust there). And I signed up for the Darth Vader ceramic Daytona two days after release at Baselworld and got the call a year later although I had no purchase history (I passed 😅). I got a Sub no date from the ZH airport simply by being patient and calling every six months (I waited three years, no purchase history). Again, only locals can buy steel sports and Daytonas, tourists can buy anything else.

Bucherer have a field in their CRM for suspected flippers, they showed it to me.

Also you don't have to be rich but it helps to show that you already have a nice watch as a sign you are not a flipper. Omega Seamaster or JLC or whatever, wear it. They look, they told me. If you have nothing on your wrist, or a digital watch, its a red flag.

People with children don't have more disposable income 😂
@BacktotheOutdoors4 ай бұрын
That depends. For example, a majority of people in the top 5% of earners are married with at least one child. Read Charles Murray’s ‘Coming Apart.’ If you’re comparing a 27-year-old waitress with no kids to another 27-year-old waitress with one kid, then of course the former has more disposable income than the latter. But that’s not who Rolex is targeting.

Has Rolex ADs gone this low? No wonder they now called Lowlex in East Asia.
@2GoodLookin3 ай бұрын
Yeah these seven reason do apply to some buyers but there is only one reason why the ADs won't sell you a new high sought after watch. The ADs (not all but most) are the GMDs themselves.

What does GMD mean?

Is not Rolex problem how much you earn. Money are money.

I dress like crap when I go to the Rolex store. I don't care if they judge. I have been on their waiting list for a while. I just took 3 to get serviced by them. Fuck them if they don't want to sell me a watch. I walked over and bought a Brietling. 😂

F’*k the AD. I put my name down for a Datejust and a Submariner and waited for a year and a half or so and I never got a call even for a basic Datejust. So I went and treated myself to a GMT Master and a Submariner from the grey market. Yes, I paid a bit extra but I would rather do so than to beg some dufus salesperson who seem to think that they’re the next best thing since sliced bread. They don’t get far in life beyond working in retail and rightfully so. I could’ve built a collection with them and bought one almost every year or more, but its their loss. I couldn'tvgive a damn about the extra money it costs me to go grey, at least I get what I want instantly and get treated with respect. Next stop is possibly a Daytona or a Vacheron Constantin Overseas.
