Someone at Converse is finally tapping into the insane history of shoes they have. There's a countless amount of models they've released and insane roster of athletes they've signed in the past. I can only hope they truely try to tap into their heritage. The first shoe I truly loved was the converse weapon. Magic Johnson has always been my favorite player and it helped my dad had the low top navy/yellow pair back in 2002 when I was a kid. I ended up paying in that same pair in 2010 when I was in middle school. Then in 2012 I got my hands on a high top Lakers colorway that was mainly suede and I believe they were from the 2009 retro. I played in them as a kid/teen and they held up well but the second I transition over to the Lebron 10 and Kobe 8 later in High school I pretty much left the old tech for casual. I've chased down the few pairs over the years but happy to see them finally bring them back without whatever drugs influence that outsole they've been doing in most recent years. Honestly considered buying the Bird colorway and trying to find a different sole something more OG. Thanks Nightwing for the review

Basically the converse weapon hi has two important things they advertised. One is the shoe has full eva foam inside the rubber cupsole, and the second is the y-ankle padding that keeps stability and provides comfort when you're doing crazy moves. The bottoms that are shown are accurate except for two things. The converse logo is two toned, so the star and the converse is colored, while the background is actually white. And the square boxes on the back of the heel that's shaped like a U is supposed to be white as well (at least in my original 86 pair). Another thing from the original is the midsole is a bit inaccurate on the converse logo. And the stitch lining is too much of a slope when the original is more perfectly horizontal. Magic wore them, and Larry wore them.

i remember the weapon retros in the early 2000s, i had the lakers, sixers, celtics, white and greys, and white/gum bottoms in high school. These are definitely my favorite silhouette and model of all time.

@@tenochvilla6296 They sure did. I have a few too. There were a ton of ERX-260 releases in lows, mids and a few highs. Converse Japan released the ERX-400 in a few colorways around the same time too, but with a different outsole than the OG.

Thanks for making a video about this release! It’s a shoe I was curious about since… I don’t know… forever. I was hoping Converse would eventually bring em back in an OG-ish version. Mine will arrive tomorrow and I would love to buy another pair in a Lakers and/or Celtics colorway. I’m always glad to see reviews on this channel that are not about the 3643rd colorway of the Air Jordan 1. And I really appreciate all the work you put in even if the 3643rd AJ1 review does generate way more clicks as you mentioned in one of your Reebok reviews.

The Converse Weapon is the greatest product Converse ever made. Ever. The box is a retro box that is supposed to be a recreation of the way the early boxes were around the time the shoe was released in 1986. This wasn't exclusive for the Weapon though. Other Converse basketball shoes also came in a silver box during that time period. I like that nod to the past. Every now and then for a while you'd see a vintage pair with the original silver box pop up on eBay. But not so much anymore (for obvious reasons). This version of the Weapon is totally unique compared to other earlier iterations. The earliest shoes looked like they had a skinnier last that they were built on so the shoes looked slimmer. Later retros of the Weapon of the early to mid 2000's were produced with a wider appearing sole, and a bulkier look overall. It's funny that you point out the ankle collar looking puffy because that's how they're meant to look. The vintage pairs from the photos have clearly had it, so it's harder to tell. But they are supposed to have a leather upper, through and through. The last true retro of the Weapon was a 25th anniversary shoe called the "Weapon 86". Through different iterations of the shoe they used different materials for the tongues, and other panels. Sometimes leather, sometimes nylon, maybe even faux suede. On the Lakers colorway for the Weapon 86 the triangle design parts/ankle collar of the shoe where the heel is were actually purple faux suede. They took it back to the skinnier look of the sole for that shoe, and produced four release colors, a Celtics colorway, a Lakers, another alternate Celtics colorway and a Lakers low top that released exclusively at Bodega in Boston. That would've been around 2011 or so. Converse even briefly allowed customers to customize a weapon low in the colors of their choosing. They only did it for about a month though. But yeah, really interesting shoe. I hope you're right and we'll see more colors soon.

The thinner soles were are earlier version. The thicker sole like these was exactly how my lakers pair was back in the day. From the looks of the these the cut and shape looks amazingly close to Ogs. I can’t wait to see what color ways they drop! These were the shoes back then until Mike these were the top dogs!

Oh man I love these! When they drop I’m getting a pair. I actually quite like the colors on on these. Being a kid of the 90s I was a huge Shaq & Penny fan so Orlando me up! Also 3 pairs of laces and great quality leather…. it’s a no brainer for me. I hope Cons release more 90s jams!

I think I had one of these back in high school in the late 80s... I don't remember exactly... I definitely had a white and silver Converse High top.... Lasted a couple of years... I even had the sole replaced when it wore out... Though the uppers were still really good. Really sturdy shoe.

Had to get these as I've been wanting these since I was 13 in 1986. Thise commercials where so dope back in the days but I could never get them over here in the Netherlands. The Lakers colorway is my favorite so if that comes out I will certainly grab them as well but not knowing if they will ever come I couldn't let these pass. They are really awesome and the quality is very good. One weird thing though, they don't seem to come with three pairs of laces but with one black pair that is laced up from factory and just 1 white lace and 1 cream colored lace witch I don't really understand.

Wow.. I’ve been waiting so long for Converse to finally retro these Weapon sneakers!!! Hopefully they’ll release the Larry Bird one, which I owned back in 1986. I even bought the Converse Weapon CX in the black/white color way!! (regardless of the massive midsole) however, they’re very, very comfortable!!

OG collars we’re puffy. That Magic PE didn’t show how padded they were in the 80s. I believe Bird/Magic had a Converse Fastbreak midsole for performance. Could be wrong.

Magic had PE midsole/outsole as others said, from Converse Fast Break. Bird also had the same but from other model. McHale same thing. Dr. J although hi didn’t wear the Weapons, his shoes were also PE with a higher cut than normal hi tops

I grew up in the 80's. I wanted these original Weapons when I was a kid. Couldn't afford them. When I grew up, these shoes were already out of circulation by then. I've been searching for it throughout my whole adulthood on the secondary market. Now is my chance to get a pair. But if damn bot resellers are gonna scoop up all of the stock just to flip them, I'll be heated. Do you now get what I'm saying??

YES !!! I was very hyped when back in 2021 or so , I heard about converse weapon comeback. But then it turned out that they were releasing a new version which wasn't bad actually, but it wasn't what I and other people wanted and were expecting converse to do . And now , seeing the legend come back makes me happy. Even if I won't be able to cop em cause if fragment Collab probable high prices.

I actually have this back then and i use it for outdoor basketball and it is very durable and you have nothing to worry about because the upper is a leather and it won't rip and the rubber outsole is stitched.

One of my biggest sneaker regrets was returning a pair of the Magic Lakers Weapon 2008 re-release back because the ankle padding was suede instead of the vinyl/synthetic leather the originals had, thinking they’d come back sooner. Had I known it would take 15 years, man…🤦🏾‍♂️
