That's why rugby is so awesome. Anyone can go down and join a club, forge yourself in fire in a competitive environment, and make friends along the way. Unlike some sports where there's only beer leagues and professional leagues.

In the early 90s I was in North Carolina. One weekend I took a drive just looking around and was astonished to find a game of rugby in progress on an open sports field. Even more astonishing, I noticed the bloke playing centre had one arm. Maybe the USA does things a bit different.

It may be the "old school" method but when I started rugby school in France a few decades ago, we learned to tackle much lower, below the knees, perhaps more dangerous but much more effective. In any case, it's great that rugby is growing, it's a sport full of respect, bravery and tactical intelligence.
@MrBrenosКүн бұрын
Yeah it’s how I use to tackle here in Australia as well. Bootlace tackles.
@DeathtaxesandrussellКүн бұрын
World rugby is kind of cracking down on going really low because of the increased risks. You can still kind of get away with it if you really exaggerate your arms wrapping. Every league, level and country is slightly different though. E.g. at the pro level in England, you can tackle slightly higher than in the lower leagues
@CROM-on1bzКүн бұрын
@@Deathtaxesandrussell The lower leagues? What do you mean by that? In any case, in my opinion, it is much more dangerous and ineffective to tackle high. But the taller the players, the lower the ground.😊😊
@DeathtaxesandrussellКүн бұрын
@@CROM-on1bz in the last year or 2 in England, the RFU (Our governing body) has introduced laws to reduce the height of the tackle in amateur rugby. Even tackling around the sternum or 'under the armpits' is now illegal and you'd be pinged for it. Where at semi pro they are much more flexible with this. At pro level this doesn't even exist as they are deemed to have full control over there actions and would be able to control a collision better. Obviously at any standard, you can't go for a shot above 'shoulder level' like you would have likely 10 years ago.
@WeatherBoys_TVКүн бұрын
Right - they kept telling us we were tackling too high, that we needed to get lower

Rugby has it's origin's in village life going back to the Dark Ages and possibly beyond, there would be be games played between rival villages. The rules have changed but Rugby maintain's it's core element's team work comaraderie and respect.

As a summer camp instructor my brother discovered that there's an appetite for playing rugby in the US, particularly among kids since you only need a patch of ground and a ball, it has this in common with football (soccer) and is therefore more spontaneous and fun. Touch rugby for playing on hard surfaces is awesome also and teaches good skills.

Your normally moving forward so not so bad rather than standing. You spin the ball when you pass that is how you get the distance on the pass

Just a heads up - the whole "lack of pads make it safer" myth has been thoroughly debunked by multiple studies. You're significantly more likely to end up in hospital playing Rugby than in American Football. It's safer for kids though as contact and technique is introduced progressively and scrums are non contested until teen years.

You’re correct but the severity of the injury is higher in football than rugby, because of the higher velocity of collisions, and maybe different techniques, according to Concussion Management studies
