Weather a trackside concrete retaining wall and detail it with utility cable. Done in HO scale but techniques would work for O and N Scale modeling as well. With Doug Foscale of Fos Scale Models.
Materials Used: Concrete Color - Cocoon from Art Minds ( at Michaels)
Gray color #1: Gray Wolf from Martha Stewart (at Michaels)
Gray Color #2: Arrowhood from Martha Stewart (at Michaels)
Dark Annealed Steel Wire 24 Gauge ( from Ace Hardware)
Light Rust Wash -AK Interactive
Moss Deposits -AK Interactive
Cable Brackets: Fos Scale Models -foskits.com. fosscalemodels...

I painted movie sets for 11 years I worked at Universal, 20th Century Fox, MGM, Sony, and I worked at Paramount for 6 years. we usually painted full size sets but, often worked on miniatures of all types. My bosses were world renowned art directors. One thing I can tell you for sure is we stayed away from the color black. I you take a good look where you have used that color it looks more like grease than age. It might be appropriate for a transmission shop but not outside. the only time we broke out the black was when we were making it look like that had been a fire like when Reverend Jim's apt caught fire on taxi. We used black for that set. Your darkest color when aging should probably be raw umber. I am not trying to tear down your work but an honest glimpse of your work and you will see what I am talking about It looks like grease or oil and not dirt. like I said I worked for the best art directors in the world and on world class sets so other opinions are fine there just wrong. Try it you'll like it.

Man, I needed that. What a great approach. I'm always too precious with weathering and it ends up way too underdone. But, that's a very naturalistic effect you created. Thanks, great channel.

Great job! Forgive my newbie questions: how much does that plaster wall weigh? What material did you use to fix it on layout? Thanks and congrats again

Can I use cardboard as a flat base as well as the sides to form the mode shape? I'll still use the styrene n smooth it from woodland scenics for the concrete

Hi Doug Is it possible you could post a Prototype Pic or two for the inspiration behind the Retaining Walls with Hanging Cables? i'd like to see where those Utility Cables connect to in real life. maybe you could post the few prototype pics near your Bracket selling page on the website? Good Marketing Tool for you!

Great looking wall Doug, this gives me some ideas for sure. Are you going to offer those brackets in O scale? I'm sure that the HO ones would work, I just think they will be a wee bit small.

That turned out great. Certainly something I have not considered adding to my walls. My only question is, what are the cables & boxes for? Signalling?
@FosScaleModels
@FosScaleModels 4 жыл бұрын
Just guessing but most likely signaling, turnout, crossing gates..just about anything powered on the RR.
