Great tutorial; thanks for sharing! 🙂 A few questions- Are you applying the weathering to bare plastic, or were the white parts painted first? Does the Tamiya weathering kit work on both acrylic and enamel paints? Finally, do you use any top-coat to seal your weathering, and if so, what type?

Edit: After reading and watching other resources, my only question left is if the initial topcoat is applied while still on the runners after the liner? So, my questions are, you have all the decals on, so this is done after decals, and then, have you set all the parts aside for weathering BEFORE construction? Can this be done when the kit is already constructed? And, do you use a spray of topcoat on the Mobile Suit BEFORE or AFTER weathering? Btw I have done hundreds of high grades with no liner or weathering, and I have bought this exact Real Grade GP01 kit in this video to try and move to the next level, as well as this exact Tamiya Weathering Master D kit. I just dont know the proper steps.

Sorry I’m just seeing this now, here’s my process: build frame, dry brush with gunmetal x11, put on all armor, separate kit into limbs, head, backpack, and weapons, apply all decals, as you finish each section attach it to alligator clips, apply first layer of acrylic matte topcoat, do weathering, final topcoat, assemble sections into final mech. Holler with any questions I hope this helps 🙌
@zeroshobbies
@zeroshobbies Жыл бұрын
You can do the topcoat while it’s constructed but you’ll risk the topcoat not hitting parts hidden by the skirts. I guess you could remove those and pose it then spray but I recommend breaking it down into sections- much easier to manage

Newbie Question: I just received this set and the instructions mention “semi wet” applicator, yet I can’t find one video instruction of anyone touching base on this. All videos show the powder applied right onto the model. Also the powder is hard and you can’t just scoop it off. Okay so do I need to break the powder down? Does the model or the brush/sponge tip need to be semi moist? Anyone with a experience are more than welcome to respond, thanks in advance.

@zeroshobbies

This is a really good question. Thankfully with gunpla you wont run into too many completely flat parts. If they are rounded I try to follow any edge the best I can. If it has panel lining you can always trace the lines with the weathering master as it will make them more pronounced as well.

@zeroshobbies
@zeroshobbies 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for checking out my video! I do all my line work first thing while the part is still on the runner. I use flat coat before and after applying weathering. And I use tamiya panel liner and Gundam markers for panel lining, they both have their strengths in certain applications.
@Cheers_Mcgee
@Cheers_Mcgee 2 жыл бұрын
@@zeroshobbies So your saying the line work is put directly on before anything else? Before any top coat? Or after the first layer of top coat? For example: Step 1 Spray top coat. Step 2 panel lines. Step 3 Weathering. Step 4 Last layer of top coat. Also is the top coat a matt finish?

What a great way to achieve pre-shading. Say, what clearcoat did you use for the pigments to adhere to the model? I'm customizing a Transformer and I want to try this for myself. Also, how well does it stay on AFTER the final clear coat? Does it rub off?
@zeroshobbies
@zeroshobbies 3 жыл бұрын
you want an acrylic matte coat, so far the only ones i know of are mr hobby topcoat (blue can), or mr army painter. i have better results with mr hobby. even on an unpainted kit, it helps to secure the decals and weathering. that being said i do 2 matte coats- one after decals to get a surface for weathering, and another when im finished weathering to secure everything.
