Another great tutorial video MR. The weathering up of the underframe always looks a million miles better than the plastic black off the shelf. Another job that is on the long finger for me. Thanks again for sharing your skills. Paul

I’ve been slicing polystyrene and slapping down some papier-mâché this very morning Greg! Not all of it is scenic though, as I’ve had to run the railway under some preoccupied boards... but it’s still a good 25 foot and means it’s a complete loop now.

Very good. With me turning my railway into a heritage line I find that I am weathering less and keeping the stock cleaner, don’t want to upset all my volunteer staff!!

Nice demonstration Mr Raspberry. The tank loco looked very good indeed. What varnish did you use to seal the weathering powders? Cheers, Bob
@MouldyRaspberry6 жыл бұрын
Thanks Bob. I’ve used Halfords Matt lacquer in the past which was pretty good, but don’t use anything now as the stock rarely gets touched when on the layout. Are there any that you would recommend?

@@MouldyRaspberry I have no bias at all really, but I tend to use modelling varnish, mainly Testors products, 1260 Dullcote being my preferred choice. Modelling in N and stock being used for my exhibition layout, I was recommended to their products some years back. They are not cheap, but worth the money IMHO. I know many of us are governed by money, but I would rather have 1 excellent wagon than 3 average ones. Cheers, Bob

Long ago I used to "war weary" my Airfix kits. Camo paint flaked back to aluminium, black bootpolish smeared back from exhaust stubs. The best bit was hanging them off the washing line with string and using twopenny bangers for flak! (Naughty boy.)

There is indeed, the layout is a complete loop now! The baseboards are down and I’m just messing around trying to work out what the landscape will look like, but I know I want a huge viaduct in there somewhere!

Absolutely brilliant, Lewis. I was watching your Hornby trackmat video last evening, you mention university. A double first in imagination? Mine are in English and American Lit, lot of use in railway modelling!! Take care, my friend. I might be back in future with a question or two. Kindest of regards, Henry.

Very useful weathering video. What's your advice for weathering Pullman coaches particularly the roofs as I know they are usually pretty clean but have seen some on preserved railways which are quite dirty. Do I go for less is more approach or just dirty them up as I see them to be?
@MouldyRaspberry10 ай бұрын
Hmmm I don’t like the roofs to bright so I’d just grubby them up a bit but keep the sides of the coaches pretty clean.
@mattseymour863710 ай бұрын
@@MouldyRaspberry I'm the same and as you say in real life even Pullman coaches in preservation have slightly dirty roofs. What do you tend to use for that? Do you lightly apply some smoke weathering powder?

Have you tried using t-cut on the paint on carriages? Does it give them a metallic finish?
@MouldyRaspberry3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I’ve not tried it on these coaches as this is an much older video but recently I’ve used it must of mine to give them a shine.

When varnishing, did you just let the varnish go onto the windows or did you mask them off?
@MouldyRaspberry5 жыл бұрын
I don’t tend to varnish anything. Once it’s on the layout I don’t often touch it so don’t bother. I’d probably mask them off if I was to though as they’ll cloud up.

Dapol Stanier non-gangway coaches, in BR lined maroon. They are decent considering the kits are around £10 and the ready to run ones £14.
