Hi M.R I was really excited to see that you have made a new video working on your new extension of your layout. This is going to keep us all excited watching your progress as you go along. I hope I'm right for all your viewers. Looking forward to your next videos. Going to try and take pictures of my layout as I go through my project, still a long way to go. Many thanks Brian 😉👍

Oh my goodness. (Eep. I’m turning into Darcy Bussell.... :) ) One of the reasons this is among my favourite layout channels is the way you’ve absolutely nailed the whole concept of “the railway in the landscape“. Inspirational.

Wow decent extension! Love the scenic opportunities you give yourself instead of putting more track in. Looks great and cant wait to see more. I have a heap of styrene to start my scenic work so I guess I’ll join you in having a snow looking floor when done hey! Your going to have some great camera angles with the way it’s sculpted as well. Awesome. Clint

Cheers Clint, I had exactly that in mind with regards to the camera angles actually, you’ve got a very keen eye! I’ve emptied the hoover bag three times now and they are still everywhere. I think they are breeding or multiplying up there.....

Don't panic Captain Raspberry, I'm still here 👍 Well this is looking good although I am surprised you didn't go for a double track. Great to see traditional methods being used in modelling.I do love papier mache. I shall away to the next video. Cheers, Bob.
@MouldyRaspberry6 жыл бұрын
Thanks very much mate. Double track was the original plan Bob, but with the rest of the layout single track and the way it’s controlled, it would just mean a stationary train sitting there whilst something else went past. More money on track/ballast etc for very little return. Especially when there are already three passing loops now!

@@MouldyRaspberry Yeah I've been there before where I use too much track. Assume it's SCARM your talking about? Even if it's just drawn on a scrap of paper I'm still curious as to what your layout is lol Keep up the good work any way! Love seeing your layout progress!

Hi MR, Hope you are as excited as I am to see this new section being created. It will be a great addition to your already wonderful layout. Can hardly wait for your next video. You mentioned that when the newspaper shell was dry you gave it a coat of filler. Could you tell me what type of filler was used. Cheers Greg
@MouldyRaspberry6 жыл бұрын
Hey Greg, I am indeed! Yes it’s a brand called British Gypsum and it’s Gyproc Easy-fill. I used that one simply because it’s what a had lying around from another projects but seems to work alright. Thanks for your comment as always.

Because of your high standard of modelling, seeing this will be great for those of us who don’t want to spend money on plaster cloth etc. Is the rest of your layout is achieved using the same methods?
@MouldyRaspberry6 жыл бұрын
I’ve tried a few different methods but yes it’s mainly this. I’ve used some plaster cloth elsewhere, but it adds up as you say, so that’s why I just went for the papier-mâché this time. It’s nowhere near as strong but this layout isn’t going to exhibitions and the scenery will hardly be touched when it’s down so I figured why bother making the landscape ridiculously strong? Glad you found this useful mate and as always, appreciate you comments.
@jazzman16266 жыл бұрын
Mouldy Raspberry I’ve just had another look at one of your previous videos and Since I will not be transporting mine, I will be doing it this way too. I’d rather spent the dosh on other things. Early-ish in the new year, right after we redecorate the living room, is when I’ll be starting my (first) layout 😁 yippee.
@OPHYCLIDE6 жыл бұрын
Best layout on youtube. @ 1.26 the support has split where the trackbed is attached. Might be worth re-doing that leg?
@MouldyRaspberry6 жыл бұрын
Thanks very much mate. Hmm that’s where I’ve screwed the top onto the support, but I reckon it will be alright. It looks worse than it is I think because only the side has actually split if you know what I mean. If it warps and the viaduct collapses you can say ‘I told you so!’

Hello, your scenic work is stunning. I'm new to your channel and as a returning railway modeller, there's so much to learn from your videos. Your loft looks huge, do you live in Blenheim Palace?! Thanks for sharing your experience and your amazing layout.

Looking good but do all your locos get round the corner with out hitting the platform ?
@MouldyRaspberry6 жыл бұрын
Thanks. My largest loco goes round with 0.000000000000000000000000000001mm to spare! I’ll cut the platform down anyway so it’s not on the curve.

Very nicely done as usual. Really makes me think about the way I place my foam underlayments. What do you use for paper mache paste?

You’re inspiring me to go in the loft! I have permission to make a shelf for the Christmas stuff & other bits ‘n’ bobs...........might order some extra 2 x 1 and ply!! How do you manage in Summer / Winter operating temperatures?
@MouldyRaspberry6 жыл бұрын
Haha go for it mate! My technique is a little more risky: I build it, and THEN ask permission! Doesn’t always work out well... I don’t find the cold a problem at all. Stick a nice warm pair of slippers and a jumper and you’re all good even mid winter. The heat on the other hand sometimes can be a bit much but only when it’s really hot. To be honest getting a bit sweaty for a few weeks of the year beats forking out for a loft conversion, imagine how many locos you could buy with that money.........
@fp70265 жыл бұрын
Can you please do a "before and after" video using some of this footage and the same angles as they are now? You've achieved a standard of modelling many would consider a lifetime project in merely a few months... how on earth do you do it?!?

That’s a great idea, I’ll make that happen! I don’t know either! Thanks very much.

Thanks Dave. I use pins but don’t use cork, I just push them straight into the plywood.

I love how simple yet effective this is. Incredible work. How much planning was involved and did you use anyrail?
@MouldyRaspberry6 жыл бұрын
Thanks very much Andrew! Very little actually, I’m way too impatient for that! I prefer to just lay the track and see what works/looks best rather then use a program.

Bro this is so Rad, I love showing your vids to people that needs introduction to model Railway. Can I ask how many layers of the paper mache you use for coverage and when you say you use filler what are you referring to? Please share with me 🙏🏻
@MouldyRaspberry3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Johan, appreciate it. Hmm I can’t remember quite how many, but probably not enough! I reckon the best way is a couple of layers of papier mache, then use plaster bandage. It’s pretty cheap and dries really strong. The filler didn’t work too well to be honest, I’d probably use the plaster bandage instead of that and smooth it with your fingers while it’s still wet.
@johanswanepoelswanies74833 жыл бұрын
Hello, thank you for sharing I appreciate it. As I am new to the hobby I have been watching loads of different modelers, great to get your input. Go safe. And keep the channel going its great.

Hi, Can I ask what the coaches are you're using? Cheers, Mark.
@MouldyRaspberry6 жыл бұрын
These are Stanier LMS non corridor coaches made by Dapol. These ones are the BR lined Maroon ones. I think the kits are £9 and the ready to run version about £15.
@rossmorrow30134 жыл бұрын
Do you let the ‘filler’ go on the track as well? How do you clean your track later?
@MouldyRaspberry4 жыл бұрын
A better modeller would probably have the sense to cover the track! I’m not very good at remembering to do things like that. I’ll go over the track with a track rubber after to clean it. But once the track has been painted, ballasted and then weathered, any that gets on the sleepers won’t show up. 👍🏻
@rossmorrow30134 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your very prompt and courteousness in such a fast reply. As you’ve probably worked out, I’m starting out again, after the first time with Z. My layout is on an 8’x4’ board, unfortunately only accessible from one 8’ and one 4’ side as it’s in a corner. I’ve downloaded ‘Railroader’ as it’s the only one that works on a Mac. I’ve worked out I can fit a radius 4 so I can run the larger steam trains. Again, thank you for all your assistance. ross
