First time I've seen or heard of the Black Rail. They are very pretty, indeed. I live in Arkansas on a low area and behind a creek on about three acres. A couple years ago we had some King Rail on the corner of our property that sets in a low area. That was a treat to see, and I hope they return again.

When I was a teenager, a technician that did surveys for the California black rail and Virginia rails would come out to our property sometimes and document data. I got to join her on some of her surveys and learn about the rails and why their conservation is so important. Such a cool bird. Love the little guys. Favorite thing to photograph in NorCal. Thank you Tricia for inspiring my interest!
