Great video! I tried it out and it works. I have another way of doing it though. I add some water, and some dishsoap together( trying not to create any bubbles), then I just add some normal acrylic paint. I put it all over the model and just wipe it off with a dry cotton swab when its done. Same results, just makes you feel more fancy.

Do you have to let it completely dry before wiping?

It's good to see you using the tried and true 'universal solvent', favoured by all the best model makers, and also known as spit. ;-)

Do you use any product to fix the pastel? I've read reports that applying varnish after pastel without fixative makes the pastel disappear.

I assume you would do this before finishing with a varnish.

THe detergent is a surfecant - something that reduces surface tension. You could try adding some Kaolin, which is a type of fine powdered clay used for many things including I think cosmetics, ceramics and as a dioherhea treatment (it used to be in our medical packs in the 90s).

Thanks for the tips! Amateur question for everyone- is there a reason to go with the acrylic "sludge wash" over the oil based pinwash method? Does it depend on the model? Or is it just personal choice?
@genessismodels
@genessismodels 3 жыл бұрын
I would say oil based can give you more of a pro look, and sludge wash I would say is more standard

I would not use acrylic over oil . . . ever. Oil over acrylic is fine but oil is too unstable to paint acrylic over. A simple fix is to use an enamel. Enamel and acrylic can be painted over one another and are stable once dry.

So the Sludge Wash you are using here is acrylic? The result is amazing! I mean, Tamiya acrylics are good, same level as Humbrol Enamel paints in my opinion. I am very disapointed by Citadel paints and models, GW.. even ForgeWorld resin. I think this wash, with pigments and oils could be a great combo if we could mix them together.

Can I do this TAMIYA panel Line accent color black? I’ve had to hand brush the bottom section of my 1/48 f4 phantom and I’ve always covered up all the detail (no airbrush or spray cans) and so I’d like to try and accent the remaining detail but all I’ve got is the TAMIYA one
