This was a "normal" weather event. They occur several times a summer, although in the last few years, the summers have been too cold and wet for such storms to build. It also depends what part of Sydney you live in as to what you cop. We live close to a river and it's not unheard of for one side to cop torrential rain and hail, and the other to get just a shower. There can be flooding in one part of Sydney and not a drop fall in another part. Our weather is weird and at times unpredictable, but it always has been.

We have no more trees around our home; THEY have fallen over, over many many years; left… right …an on our house; so THIS is our relief, no more fallen trees here So sorry for people having to deal with this aftermath; may you receive all that you need very shortly. Us too. we could see it coming but because we were moving east and it was behind us, we made it home minutes before it hit. Where we are, the rain was heavy and there was a lot of lightning and thunder, but not as much rain as we've had with an east coast low in the past, and it was over and done with very quickly. The thunder always sounds worse than it is because we are so close to a river and the hills along the river are steep, so the sound echoes back and forth. The strong winds in the following days has been worse, frankly, and it's been really cold. More like winter temperatures than mid-summer.
