So pretty! I love how the contrast thread on the leather makes it match the red and white band.

This was really interesting. I have inherited that kind of heddle and thought I would make a band at some point, but haven't yet. This was really useful to see the concept of it in use, making me more inclined to pick it up at some point when I have some grasps of what to do with it.

In your opinion, could a brand new weaver start with a project like this?
@withmyhandsdream

Sure! It’s not that hard and the first band doesn’t have to be perfect. Just take your time figuring it out!

Очень благодарна за Ваше видео и включенные субтитры! Thank you very much for your video and included subtitles. In the video Durham Weaver saw for the first time a new type of heald (reed) with slots of different lengths and ordered one for myself. But only from you I understood how to thread and weave with their help. Very convenient to type out the pattern. На видео Durham Weaver впервые увидела новый вид ремизы (бердо) с прорезями разной длины и заказала себе такую. Но только у Вас поняла, как заправлять и ткать с их помощью. Очень удобно набирать узор. I thank you from the bottom of my heart! От всего сердца Вас благодарю! You have chosen a very beautiful pattern: the call of Goddesses and ancestors to protect (protect) the house, field (harvest) and hearth of the one who wears the belt. I think this is an image of the ancient Slavic (Aryan?) goddesses Lada (Zhiva) and Makosh. I learned the symbols of the patterns in the book: M. Katsar “Belarusian ornaments. Weaving. Embroidery” 2013. There is an earlier publication in the Belarusian language on the network (М. Sorry if the translation is inaccurate. I didn't study English. I translate using Google. Извините, если перевод неточный. Я не изучала английский язык. Перевожу с помощью Гугл

Thank you! I didn’t know what the pattern meant. The patterns have traveled around a lot! Many old Karelian patterns feature old goddesses in geometric patterns so I can easily believe that this pattern has some kind of relation to those patterns. I must try to find that book. I hope it is available in English or in Finnish as I don’t understand Belarussian or Russian.

@@withmyhandsdream I don’t want to upset you... So far no one has translated this book into English... I can only translate it into Russian. If my husband helps, then in Polish. This book is very thick (large). I'll have to quit my job to do the translation... не хочется огорчать... Пока никто эту книгу не перевел на английский язык... Я могу перевести ее только на русский. Если муж поможет, то на польский. Эта книга очень толстая (большая). Придется уволиться с работы, чтобы делать перевод...

Oh. Too bad then. I can’t speak any Slavic languages. Finnish is completely different and I don’t even know cyrillic alphabet! But I may find some other books. It would be interesting to compare the meanings of different symbols around the Eastern Europe. I have a book that explains some meanings and names for some symbols but a lot has been lost and many old symbols have been given new meanings. Like the ancient goddess might now be a mother or Virgin Mary instead of the original pagan symbol.

@@withmyhandsdream Yes you are right. M. Katsar has such symbols - Aranta. In my file you can highlight words and translate them using Google Translator (Belarusian-English). I'll try, but it will take time. Will English suit you? Although some symbols are conventional. He interviewed elderly woodland weavers. Many people don’t remember well Да, вы правы. У М. У Кацара есть такие символы - Аранта. В моем файле можно выделить слова и перевести Гугл-переводчиком (белорусский-английский). Я попробую, но потребуется время. Английский устроит? Хотя некоторые символы условны. Он брал интервью у пожилых ткачих полесья. Многие уже плохо помнят

@NVeslava I’d be delighted if you would but it is your choice if you want to take the time. I usually translate everything into English as English works best when you translate. It is almosy useless trying to translate into Finnish.
