One of the first leather craft videos i watched and got me started! For marking dark material like in this case you can always use gold or silver ink markers you get in a craft store or at bigger retailers! Works perfect!

Thanks for the great videos, Chuck. I've been a self-learned amateur/hobbyist leathercrafter for around 20 years. These Leather Element videos have stepped up my game and have given me more ideas for projects. The only complaint I have is they were not available 20 years ago.

2023! I'm here! What glue is good for suede on suede? I have some very boring, tan, suede mules and I plan to plait some suede with five strands and glue it onto the shoe to spruce it up! Thank you for your help 🌴✨️🌟

This video and the companion to it came at the perfect time. I am in the middle of a guitar strap project for one of my kids’ friends and am doing her name cut out with a blue suede showing through. Thanks for doing these!

How strong is the bond between leather and suede? If i wanted to make a piece of leather 1mm thicker would gluing a suede to the flesh side accomplish that? Would it be strong structurally?

I wonder if a silver sharpie pen would work for marking on dark suede? Seems like it would be easier to see. Great tips! You've got me excited to try doing some work with suede and cutouts.

Sorry if I am late to the party. First off thank you for the videos, they are amazing and very informative. I was curious it would be possible to stitch the outside after you glue the pieces together. Would you punch holes before gluing, or after gluing, or it generally not a great idea?
@WeaverLeatherSupply
@WeaverLeatherSupply 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Erik, Yes, you can stitch the pieces together after gluing. You should be able to add the holes after gluing.

Hi. Great video and once again you have given me an idea on what is possible...when is glueing enough? When do you have to either sew or use spits, etc to hold the project together? I want to do something similar on a backpack but I don't want it to separate. Thank you
@WeaverLeatherSupply
@WeaverLeatherSupply 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Tawnya, Gluing is enough on most projects, if the right glue is used and it is applied properly. For a permanent hold be sure to use a contact cement like barge cement and glue to the edges without leaving any gaps. If you do this right the two pieces of leather you stick together will react as one. We have a great video that goes more in depth about how to use liners and glue properly: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z3fZqJ1_rMZoodU

Hi Chuck - Wondering how to final trim the suede on the project shown? This was not shown on the video, but I am struggling with this step on my project. I've had trouble cutting around the perimeter of my piece and avoiding damaging the buffed veg tan. Are you using a knife, or scissor?

Question for you! Could you safely harden a piece like this that has a suede backer? I know you use the baking style for hardening. Would that damage or affect the suede?
@WeaverLeatherSupply
@WeaverLeatherSupply 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Kelsee, As far as the suede itself, I don’t see that being an issue, however the main concern I always have is the reaction of the heat to the contact cement. Heat is the only thing that will make contact cement lose its hold but I don’t know what the temperature or exposure time is for sure. For this reason I always harden the veg tan and then glue my suede on after the hardening.
@archangeloliver
@archangeloliver 4 жыл бұрын
Could you just make a lot of small triangles and squares out of the suede? Then glue around the hole on the leather and put the suede square on.

Can you burnish suede and if you can how
@WeaverLeatherSupply
@WeaverLeatherSupply 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Cole, Suede will not burnish like a veg tan leather will. The best thing to do if you don't want a raw edge would be to apply an edge paint or Edge Kote.

Chuck, I would love to back my filigree with rabbit fur so that the fur is coming out the front of the filigree. Do you have any pointers for me?
@WeaverLeatherSupply
@WeaverLeatherSupply 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Karin, Please don’t change directions on my opinion because that would be a beautiful look. I’ve tried some variations on this and have never been happy with the outcome. The rabbit hair is a longer hair so it will start to slip through the filigree cuts and look pretty rough (unless that’s the look you’re going for). Another issue is gluing the filigree down. The adhesive will stick to the fur, making a mess, and the glue won’t get to the flesh as well so it may not be a good hold around the filigree cuts. Again, please don’t go with my opinion. Try an experimental piece first and see what you think. If you pull it off I would LOVE to see the outcome! Chuck

@@WeaverLeatherSupply what about trimming the hair with a pair of electric clippers then removing the hair as much as possible in the areas glue will be applied (a smaller beard trimmer would be good for intricate spots).
