My son told me that he wore size 30-32 pants, so I made him a 36" belt with the measurement to the center hole of 34. It barely fit him and it was a good thing I made the belt keeper as close to the buckle as I did. His true waist size is 35" as measured with a tape. It is called vanity sizing Chuck and they have done it to women sizes forever, but it used to be if your pants are 32 and fit snugly you have a 32" waist, no more, they are doing it to men's pant sizes as well. My son's belt was almost useless to him and he was shocked to say the least.

Made my first belt yesterday, it was a combination of 5 pieces of veg tan riveted together to make a wide belt\decoration for the front and a 1 inch belt blank cut in two and riveted to the decoration. The buckle is on the back. Fortunately I went off the actual measurements of the person to get the measurements correct.

So i watched this video like 6 times.. as i want to get into leathercraft and i feel if i could master belts first other areas would become easier as i would have some confidence. I dont know if people realize how bloody brilliant you are with that "shorty" and that "Belt measurer" . I actually Understand the math behind it and i have to say, Belt measuring and making is prob going to be super easy because of you. Thanks.

Chuck, thank you for the “ELEMENTS” videos. They are great informational videos. I made the sizing belt. Here’s a questions for you. What do you do if the sizing belt is too small to wrap around a guy’s waistline? How long a piece of leather can you get? I think this guy was a Sumo Wrestler or something. He is definitely a 3 or 4 tape measure length!! I thought it was a joke until I saw this guy. I don’t think you could get a strap of leather that long. I know you could put together two or three straps with Chicago Screws. Not sure what else you can do? The guy uses a heavy duty climbers rope right now. I told his son that I could Pro Die the rope black. Figures I would get something like this right out of the gate.

Hi Chuck. I really love your videos. I'm still not clear on how long to cut the main strap, which will be 4" wide, for a billet style drop down gun belt. The belt size will be 38". It will be a "R" handed holster. What would be the measurement for the drop down portion? Hope I'm clear enough on this for you. Thanx.

How do you measure for kids' belts? Do I use the same format as adult measurements? Lets say the kid's waist size is 25", do I add 6" or 11" for the correct belt size?
@Richard-mz7qu6 жыл бұрын
You have produced so many really great instructional videos. Thank you for that! I want to make a gun holster supporting belt. Can you recommend an appropriate leather weight? I feel that 8-9 oz leather would be acceptable. Do you agree? Thank you!
@WeaverLeatherSupply6 жыл бұрын
Hello, Thank you so much for watching! We would recommend at least a 9-10 oz. for a belt supporting a holster. The ideal weight to use for this would be 12-13 oz.

Hey chuck, have you ever tried adding gold/silver leaf to a belt or project in general? If so how did you do it? If not would you think of trying it on a project?

Mark! Thanks for emailing! A heat stamp is the only process I’m familiar with and I’m not very knowledgeable on metals. If you come up with a way to do it I would love to hear about the outcome!

i have 2 leathers i would like to fuse with contact cement , Is it safe to oven harden this or do i have to use a difennt hardening method (if so which one)?
@WeaverLeatherSupply6 жыл бұрын
Great question! I have never tried gluing and then baking. One of the few things that will cause contact cement to give out is heat, but, I’m not sure if the low temp we bake at is enough to make the cement release. I have a project on my table now that needed two pieces hardened and then glued together. I hardened each separately and then bonded them, but, these were two relatively simple molds (two semicircles). If the form is too deep or tight this may not work, but in all honesty, I’m just not comfortable with the safety issue of the glue and the heat. If at all possible I would harden then bond just to be safe.

If I wear a size 42 men's casual belt in America, what size would I order from China?
@powderpatchandball4244 жыл бұрын
On your belt sizing chart the holes opposite the buckle end are marked at 1 1/4" spacing instead of 1". Is there a reason for this?
@WeaverLeatherSupply4 жыл бұрын
It's just personal preference, I like to have a little more spacing between mine.
