In this chapter, we will be hand stitching our leather purse. We will use a stitching chisel to mark our stitching holes and our billets onto our gussets before stitching the purse together. Chuck will be demonstrating a saddlers stitch to sew this project.

I’m really liking these project videos being released as a set. Can you show how you sew as if there wasn’t a camera? You are sewing but going slow to give instructions and show the hand movements which is good, but you skip to the end after a few stitches. Can you show some sewing where you go at your full speed and rhythm?

I thought I installed the wrong rivets, so I haphazardly drilled them out to try the 5/16" rivets, but those ones are way too large. When I set them the post nearly sticks out the top and there is not tightness in the set...

Where is chapter five Chuck? I use Weaver's 5mm spaced stitching chisels for most projects except small wallets where I use either a 4mm or 3mm depending on the thickness of the leather. The smaller spacing, especially the 3mm or 1/8 in I use a smaller thread, the 4mm not so much. Those little paper clamps are cheap and super handy, get plenty because you can't have too many.

What is the clamp thing you are using to hold the leather while you stitch? Looks like you have a foot release and clamp?
