I've been meaning to cover a Journal with a tooled cover. Nothing too complicated just a border and a square in the center to match. Your video came along at the right time and I have a magnet clasp too. What would be neat is if you made a secure cover for a diary complete with a combination lock. I saw some locks at a leather supplier and thought that it would make a useful project.

Hello, I’m new to leather craft and wanted to know why don’t you punch through the leather all the way? I see you’re using a tool to push through the leather, but what benefit do you get by doing that, or is it preference?
@JHLeather Жыл бұрын
Depending on what you are making, what leather you are using and your choice of stitch markers, punching them all the way through isn't always an option.

@curtfunk23703 жыл бұрын
I always enjoy your videos. I have a question about stitching. You mark the leather with prongs but you do not go all the way through the leather, preferring instead to use the awl to make the hole. Prongs typically have a diamond shape while the awl is round. Does this concern you when both sides are to be visible without a "back" side?
@JHLeather3 жыл бұрын
The irons that I use are traditional pricking irons so are at an angle but are straight and not diamond shaped. The stitching awl that I use is a diamond awl which I have shaped down to match the pricking iron and I make the holes with that. This is the traditional way of leather stitching. Yes, the back side of the stitching can vary with this method as it relies on good awling techniques to get the back of the stitching straight. For a project like this one, the leather is thin so this is good practice for someone who is new to leatherwork to use an awl and start getting used to awling and work on theor technique as there are some projects like buckle turns, padding, ect where using an awl is essential. Hope that makes sense. Jo

Force of habit mostly, but also it opens up the holes a bit more, so the needles can get through more easily 👍

A unit of measurement
@joshuaninham196211 ай бұрын
You should rather use the metric system, let me tell you why. 1. Decimal System: The metric system is based on powers of 10, making conversions between units straightforward and easy. 2. Simplicity: The metric system has a consistent set of prefixes, simplifying the representation of different magnitudes. 3. Global Standard: Widely adopted internationally, facilitating communication and trade across borders. 4. Scientific Consistency: Widely used in scientific research, promoting consistency in experimental measurements. 5. Ease of Learning: The metric system is generally easier to learn and understand due to its logical structure. 6. Interconnected Units: Units in the metric system are interconnected, simplifying calculations and conversions. 7. Scales Easily: The metric system scales easily for both small and large measurements without the need for complex conversions. 8. Logical Progression: Units progress logically, from smaller to larger, or vice versa, making it intuitive for users. 9. Standardized Prefixes: Standardized prefixes like kilo, mega, and milli allow for easy expression of different magnitudes. 10. Consistent Base Units: The metric system has consistent base units for mass, length, and volume, providing a solid foundation. 11. Metrication Benefits:Transitioning to the metric system can lead to cost savings in education, industry, and trade. 12. Compatibility with Science: Used extensively in scientific fields, promoting coherence and uniformity in research. 13. Facilitates Global Collaboration: The widespread use of the metric system promotes collaboration in research and development globally. 14. Consumer Understanding: Metrics are often more easily understood by consumers, reducing confusion in daily life. 15. Reduced Errors:The simplicity of the metric system reduces the likelihood of errors in calculations and measurements.
