In this video, Daniel Reach walks us through how to create this Native American-inspired tooled feather cuff. For this project, we're going to focus on creating highlights and lowlights in our work to make our design stand out.

Love watching you tool leather. You do a great job of shading and making the picture stand out. It's very motivating looking at your tooling. I'm not much of an artist however, I'm looking forward to start building stuff and learning how to tool. Thank you. Please keep it coming.

This is a good video! Just having the music and sounds of crafting in my ear makes me want to stop work for the day and go home and work on my projects for the month. Thank you!

Another cool video! I personally enjoy the talking/narrative so I can watch them over in the background while I am crafting and listen to the tips/discussion. I also like to ASMR style, too, though!

Again awesome video Daniel...I have an idea to run by you for another video like this...maybe in between steps, put in a before and after shot of the project just to see the difference each steps makes in it.

I love the idea. I did a before and after at the end of a recent video, but I've never done one through the video and between steps. I think its a fantastic idea. It won't be possible on all the videos, but I think we can do that in a good number of them. Great suggestion!

Excellent video and project. There were several tools used that I wish I knew about for my current project. Plus the turquoise color accent was perfect. I'll have to search the internet for the Tokonote applicator you used. Thanks for sharing. Found it they are called, Needle Tip Applicator Bottles.

Yeah, those needle tip applicators are fantastic for this kind of thing.

That looks sharp! I would go one step further and cover the snap with leather painted in turquoise.

Hi Daniel, 2 questions, 1. Do you find tokonole does a better job than gum trag for slicking edges? and 2. Your snap install was different from the way I learned to do these. I would normally put the female snap on the top with the nice back and the male on the bottom. Is there a reason you did it the way you did? Earned a definate thumbs up again!

Two great questions. Tokonole - I do like it better, but I can't really tell you why. Gum Trag does a great job too. The snap install...I wasn't paying attention and put it on "backwards." The good news is that it doesn't effect how it performs...I just missed it.

JALeatherWorks, What weight leather did you use? What did you glue to the back? I preferred it when you talked during the video.
@WeaverLeatherSupply
@WeaverLeatherSupply 9 ай бұрын
Hi there, the leather weight for the top piece is 5-7 oz. and the piece glued on the back is a liner in 1-2 oz. veg tan!

Nice format, however I quite like your southern drawl. I have seen a similar style using the closed captions. Not sure if that’s easier for the production team.

Thank you! I didn't realize I had an accent (kidding). As far as the production team...I'm it. 😆 I'll check into it. Thanks.

did you use resist before applying the antique?
@DanielReachCreations
@DanielReachCreations 9 ай бұрын
Yes. In most cases I would, including this one. (I think it was mentioned on screen). The deciding factor is...Do you want the antique to color the leather/paint? If the answer is no...and you just want it to settle in the low spots, then you should seal it first. If you want it to color/tint the leather and paint, then don't seal first.

What is the barge cement for? Are you liming it? If so, what about stitching? I'm confused
@DanielReachCreations
@DanielReachCreations 9 ай бұрын
Yes, the back of the cuff was lined with 1-2 oz liner leather. Barge is a fantastic option for lining. Its the same stuff they use to attach the sole of your shoe to the rest of the shoe. As far as stitching, somethings I would stitch after glueing (journals, wallets, etc). The wrist cuff is going to stay in this curved shape, and not bending back and forth...so I didn't think it needed the extra support of stitching.

Where did you get that heavy bar to hold your project down?
@DanielReachCreations
@DanielReachCreations 9 ай бұрын
Hi Ray, The black bars are from a press that I bought at harbor freight. They are solid steel and very heavy for thier size. I'm not sure if you can just buy them by themselves or not.

Personally, I prefer narrative style videos. I often listen to them as I do other things, and don't have the time to sit and read subtitles.
@DanielReachCreations
@DanielReachCreations 9 ай бұрын
I get it. I think it depends on why someone is watching. Learning vs Relaxing. Most people watch these kinds of videos to learn...narration really speeds it up and adds depth. Some want to learn and relax...ASMR is great for that. So, we occasionally throw in a ASMR style video for variety. 🙂
