I love using their sultan cakes. It’s like dahlia, but not twisted, just held together. It weaves up very soft and lovely. I make sure to put clips on either side of the warping peg to hold the layers separate to make the shifting to the holes easier. It keeps the ‘right’ 4 strands together, but it also makes it easier to pick up 1 end per slot. I haven’t made dish towels, but I am in the middle of weaving yardage for a skirt. Happy weaving!

It looks lovely. I like the subtle changes in the weft, it rewards close attention which is part of the joy of handmade items.

I often use Hobbii yarn for weaving. You do a good job explaining the gradient yarn. I like using their twister yarn for shawls/scarfs/wraps. I like to use their 4 strand sport weight cotton for tea towels. I just placed an order for their cotton acrylic cakes with which I have a blanket in mind. My loom is only a 16 inch so I’ll weave several strips and sew them together. I love how your scarf looks.

The scarf you made it so beautiful, it makes me want to make my own. Luckily i still have some hobbii twister yarn cake left over 🤗 I have used the dahlia yarn to crochet a massive blanket before. I actually used 7(!) Yarn cakes at once with a 9mm hook so I had 28 lose strands of yarn and it worked out absolutely fine for the most part. I only had very minor issues with the splitting, but i also used an ergonomic prym hook and those are very rounded at the top 😋

Hi Mylena! Great to see you back! As I wrote you on instagram - what a crazy coincidence that I just purchased exactly the same yarn from hobbii in the exactly same color and made a scarf! I love the result you got! 😍 Regarding the other cake yarn you got - I have used a similar one (also a 4-strand untwisted cotton) as weft, but I didn't really like the result. Not sure if it was because the color change was so drastic but it looks a bit odd and messy to me, kinda like accidental mix of colors (wish I could share a picture with you!). I don't know how it will work for warp, but I imagine the single strands will show up as if it's double (or quadruple) warped so it will have a different effect.

Hi! I still can't believe this happened 🙃 and thank you so much for the info about the other yarn. I would then definitely not use it as a weft. Maybe you can send me a picture in an Instagram DM. Or by email at curlynyarny@gmail.com 😁

How long did this project take? Would it be a good project to start out with? Or should I find some yarn for a lower dpi? (Other than this one with a 15 dpi heddle) :) and when you hemstitch the ends, when do you stitch the 'beginning'end? At the start of a project, or at the end? :)

Hello! I didn't time myself while making this. But I would estimate somewhere close to 12hours (give or take a few hours) from start to finish. I think this is fairly easy projet and could be a good first project. However, most rigid heddle looms do not come with the 15 DPI heddle and you would need to buy it extra. Assuming that you only have the 7.5 heddle, I would recommend starting off with a projet that requires this heddle. I have made a few projects and I'll share you the link to one in another comment. Also, for the hemstitch, I have made a video about it. Here's the link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bWXanHWEZ9qUpcU

What size of Ashford rigid heddle are you using? I would like to get a rigid heddle so i can take back and forth to our cottage, what would you recommend?
@Curly_n_Yarny
@Curly_n_Yarny 2 жыл бұрын
I have a 32" (80cm) rigid heddle loom. My response to your question would be: it depends on the space that you have in your car and at your cottage. It also depends on what you wish to weave. I like the size of my loom because it fits easily on the back seat of my car. Still, once it's there, there is not much space left for luggage. Myself, if I wanted to take my loom to a cottage often, I would have chosen something a little bit norrower. Most projects that I like to weave are scarves and dishtowels and I like them wide. To my taste, 24" is the narrower that I would go. Still, there are many weavers who are happy with a loom that is 16" or 10" wide. Ashford also has a line of rigid heddle loom that they call the "knitters" looms. The difference is that they fold in two. They also allow for more compact travelling. I have not tried them, but they might be worth looking into. I feel the need to mention that they are often a little bit more expensive. I hope this helps 😄

Hi! I have a 30" knitter loom and it's fantastic to be able to fold it even when I have a project on. It's a little small for blanket but perfect for narrower project but I want to try a double width to to be able to make biger project..
