Eddie...Your tips and McRiders have helped me a tremendous amount. Four days ago driving the wife’s H-D Fat Boy, cruising on I10 an 18 wheeler had a tire blow out. I had to use counter steering, weaving and emergency breaking all at the same time. Saved the bike and myself. Thank you! I don’t think I hit any of the pieces of tire, a few hit me but not the bike.

I've been watching your videos since I impulse bought my first bike in 2020 (Honda Shadow ACE 750) with no license, no street experience, or 2 wheel dirt experience. I have ridden quads and ATCs on sand dunes, however, I recognized that 2 wheel vehicles are fundamentally different when it comes to control and operation. Not to mention the variables introduced when street riding introduce a plethora of risk factors. I will say that I am grateful that your videos have instilled a healthy amount of fear and apprehension when it comes to street riding that made me "slow my roll" so to speak. It has encouraged me to respect the sport, practice, and take the beginner MSF course by Total Control because the danger is real. Much more practice and courses to come. Thank you!!

to get the spanish motorbike license you need to complete a slalom at fast speed for time. from what i gather it doesnt take much to get a license in the US. also in europe you are restricted to about 47 hp for 2 years. very much enjoying your videos Eddie.

@@MotoJitsu Many your (great) safety videos contains maneuvers that are required to pass licence in EU. I don't know how it is in US, but fast slalom, slow tight slalom, tight figure eight, emergency breaking, avoiding obstacle must be performed before you move on to "city" part of exam. I'm refering to Poland, but I think it's common in whole EU.

Mateusz Zawilo They’re in the courses here too....I’m just going more in depth. Just because something is in a course, doesn’t mean you mastered it. You have to do it thousands and thousands of times. Hey Eddie on another video someone commented about you doing some videos while riding and commenting which you said would be bad for both taking your mind off riding and focusing on explanations. I was thinking if maybe you could film some of your city/rural rides and comment on the footage later it would be interesting to hear and see your thoughts and reasoning when you ride as to where you are looking/focusing on what road conditions, drivers, objects etc. Just how you adapt your riding to certain conditions. I used to do this with some friends while we were really into cycling (esp. In the city) and we took into consideration how and what people do, pedestrian and tram traffic lights as indocators, cars, people or bikes swerving to avoid something yet unseen for us and similar; everyone had their own system. (Fun fact from those days: the people most prone to just turning suddenly into bike/tram lanes or wherever are those with baby strollers - usually stroller first with no checking)

Well I don't have a microphone and I wouldn't remember what it was in hindsight....plus if I were to do that...there are endless things I pick up, not just with my eyes, hearing, smell, vibrations, etc that I couldn't possibly explain to why I do what I do when I ride...maybe I'll make a video of me going down one of my favorite roads to see the feedback but I don't think it'll do much good.

Thanks for the lesson. I was wondering if you have or if you can make a video about the suspension. How to adjust it for safer riding when you are heavier or lighter. You mention in a lot of videos that its important for safety
@MotoJitsu
@MotoJitsu 5 жыл бұрын
I would say take your bike to a shop that knows how to do it...it would be way too long of a video to do that, plus you need others to help you do it, can't be done yourself...only thing you can do yourself is adjust the rebound if you know how. If you want to do it yourself, read the suspension chapters in Total Control Ed. 2 by Lee Parks, it tells you exactly how to do it.

Really anyone who tries counter steering will love it! Lately on the pretty much straight roads coming to and from work. I just use it to quickly switch lanes, or trying to pick out something on the road as my object to avoid or get around. Instead of some actual object. Though the sod trucks do throw off a few bits now and then. Just haven't had and actual pieces to avoid. Not doing this drill at lower speeds, doing it at my commute speeds which would be 65-70. It is pretty amazing how fast the process works. I don't have LA type traffic to contend with on my trips to and from work. I can do this drill without drawing any attention. Thanks Eddie for the encouragement! Though you freaked me out by trying to grab an iphone out of someones hand at speed. Sure hope you have one wicked case on that thing!

Hi Greg, could you please help me clarify with one thing. You mentioned you keep your body still, during this exercise. However, when going through a curve in a higher speed, when you use counter steering, you would suggest to lean your body so you don't have to lean the bike that much, because if something gets in the way it is easier to straighten the bike. So in which situations would you recommend to start "adding" the body position as well? I'm not talking about any racing or "knee down for fun". Normal driving situations.

Since I don't have any traffic cones I really like the idea of putting down water bottles! Easy to transport in my saddlebags and inexpensive! Prediction of high winds tomorrow which will encourage me to go to the vacant parking lot rather than fight the breezes on the back roads. I sure hope you keep making these videos as I learn something from each

Hi. Can you show us a slalom at low speed with the cones in line, a bike length apart. Please. I'm taking the course for Moto license and I kind of have a problem with this exercise.

That was fast... but not hectic... I just realized, what I always did wrong: I should have gone for "more fluent" instead of "faster" with my hands.

in the Netherlands it's a requirement to do more or less this for your license itself, hit it with 35 no slowing down so they're kind of telling you to hold it steady but prefer if you constantly speed up, start in a straight line from the traffic cones and end in a straight line again i believe the cones are a tiny bit closer to each other as well.... when i started doing it i just thought screw it it's kinda fun, after a while it just got a bit tedious and then you finally hit the road and are so bloody thankful for having had all those annoying special manoeuvres which really suck because you had to do them in one specific manner but after you spend an evening thinking about it they all made sense (don't get me wrong, even though i still practice them on evenings when I'm not wanting to ride far but just want to do some riding, i hate doing it in the "exam" manner but just doing them the way that feels natural is fun.) eitherway, thanks for the video it's fun to watch these at work, and sometimes give me great ideas for different traffic cone setups!

I clearly see you lean opposite way bike lean, is that best? I have learned to lean with the bike..what is best/correct?
@MotoJitsu

I'm not doing anything...the bike is leaning away from me...it just looks like that. If you push hard and fast, the bike will do all the work for you. Go out and actually do this and see for yourself. I just stay still and let the bike lean away. This is how you swerve..I'm not doing a cornering drill, there's no time during swerving, this is an emergency.

Couldn't see your hands/grips area during the video starting roughly at 7:10 of the demonstration. Your camera is zoomed in too close for us to observe you actually pushing (assuming you are indeed pushing) on the handlebars. The beginning earlier video recording was simply recorded from too far away (tripod?) to be able see any movement of your hands or handlebars. Out of all the many videos I've watched of yours (subscribed a long ago), this one was visually (videographically speaking ) the least helpful. ALL your hard work is greatly appreciated though - even if you aren't perfect. (still a thumbs-up)

The bike wouldn't go through the weave if I didn't push, no need to assume anything. Best part is, who cares about this video...go set it up and practice yourself, that's more important.
