So heart breaking news. I know how a survivor feels...I was in a deadly accident 15 years ago, my car was total loss but god blessed that only suffered mild burned on my arms. I remember right at that moment (the impact) I passed out so no time to react. The car just spun out of no where and I end up in the carpool lane from the 2nd lane to the right. Thank you to those people that helped me get out of the wreck car and called 911.

It is not good to diminish the importance of seatbelts & of actually using them when in a vehicle, TheAdventuresofLucah. That does nobody any good & in fact feeds into a mentality -- "The unthinkable not going to happen to me, so I can do without putting my seatbelt on" or "A seatbelt is not a sure way to avoid serious injury or death, so I'll just not wear one" or "I don't like to feel restrained, but to feel free to move around, so I'm going to take the chance & not bother to wear my seatbelt" or "All I intend to do is to move the vehicle from here to over there, so what bad could actually happen to me in such a short distance if I forego wearing my seatbelt?" -- that will occasion tragedies like this to occur again. I don't know why exactly all four girls were not in seatbelts, but apart from it being mandated that seatbelts be worn (as the "Buckle Up" campaigns often seek to inform or remind people), seatbelt wearing CAN help save lives from serious injury or death & were the seatbelts being worn by the girls maybe, just maybe not one of them would have died. Obviously I don't intend to blame them in the situation for their own deaths, but it is foolish to not note the obvious regarding seatbelts & I'm sure, if they could talk to us all, they would agree & the Trinidad family matriarch will, if she is honest & cognizant, would also agree. Personally, I never drive off any of our vehicles without first buckling in & without making sure each of my four children are buckled in by their seatbelts. And, of course, when they were young enough to need them, all were in carseats or booster seats, whichever was appropriate according to age & size. Finally, if the wrong-way driver by some deliberate decision & action caused the collisions, then, yes, absolutely he ought to be held accountable & charged. If, however, he himself was a victim as well, a victim by his vehicle malfunctioning or him having a failing health incident like a heart attack or a seizure, then obviously there has to be compassion & exoneration extended to him.

Seatbelts are also important... must wear them at all times you’re on the road. This is why so many people die cause they don’t have it on them. Maybe the girls would’ve lived if they had their seatbelt. I don’t know how bad the impact was since this guy and the mom lived.

I am sending my prayers and condolences to the Trinidad family..I'm also a Filipino living in Germany..and God bless this young Man for his encouragement of wisdom! -seatbelt is a must in Germany! if you were caught without ! your under penalty! I could still remmeber when my daughter's Golf Car, with her boyfriend on board ! She was hit behind by a brand new BMW on the driver`s sit was this young GErman guy Her car turned around and capsized! Thank God the coming Volkswagen was able to stop at the shoulder lane.........but the Track whom my daughter was overtaking flown the scene.....He was the best Witness to teh accident! My family was so thankful that my daughter survived the accident with three broken ribs! the seatbelts saved her and her boyfriend who is now her husband! yes, everytbing happens for a reason.....Life is too damn precious.....

Then happens the Duck Boat tragedy where, of the 17 lives lost, nine belonged to one family, with the only family member to survive being, once again, another mother who lost her husband, all her children, her parents, and three other relatives. These two women are in my daily prayers. My heart goes out to them both for their indescribable losses and their long roads ahead. God will not forsake them, and I hope they will have many earthly angels to help whom they greatly need.

Brian Kern, it is certainly the mercy of Christ Jesus the Almighty that you survived, man! Don't allow Satan or his agents to whisper any accusation or notion into your heart that suggests you are to blame in any way for the harm & deaths of the Trinidad family members, notions like that it should've been full-on you so that the family could survive or anything like that. Just be thankful to the Lord Almighty, as you already stated herein that you are, & move on, as you already also stated herein that you intend to do. And you have the right idea about emphasizing the importance of wearing seatbelts, for whatever that is worth. I would suggest you particularly put in your crosshairs, too, regarding this matter school bus manufacturers who don't make their school buses to have seatbelts & also all the officials who allow this contradictory fiasco to go on.
