HI Sambo!! After a lot of research and more hours on KZbin than I'd like to admit I purchased the Searwood 600 on Memorial Day on a special deal from Lowe's. After cooking on gas grills (and occasionally charcoal on a classic Weber kettle) for over 30 years, this is my first foray into pellet smokers. Like so many others, I chose the Searwood so that I could everyday grill and smoke from the same unit. While waiting for it to be delivered, I spent even more time on KZbin to make sure I wanted to keep it. Your channel has been the most helpful by far in confirming my decision to keep it! I am about to do the initial burn in and first cook on it tomorrow!! Just wanted to say how much I appreciate the straightforward manner you have in your videos and the value you provide! Look forward to more videos as you try different cooks! Wish me luck!

Larry, I’m humbled. I’m just an average guy but happy to hear the channel has helped you pull the trigger. So far, it’s been an excellent griller and perfect for those transitioning to pellet fuel. Try mixing the charcoal pellets with your wood pellets after the burn in/off. Again, thank you, appreciate you. And yessir, my brother and I quote a plethora of movies daily. 🤣 Thanks for checking in!!!

No need to remove the handle when adding the rotisserie forks. Put them on from the pointed end that goes into the motor. Then, after the 1st one is added, add your chicken, then the 2nd to pierce the chicken again. Wipe off the pointed end so you don't get chicken gunk in the motor end. Ready to rock!

Waiting on my searwood and rotisserie to be delivered I'll probably use some wing nuts for quick removal if they will work
@sambosplace7 ай бұрын
JWG, that’s for checking in! Congrats on your grill! Wing nuts could help, however, as my video showed, the threaded pins like to fall inside the cook box. Cheers!

I think the brackets may be to prevent pinch points on the frame from the weight of the shelf.

It is possible for sure!

Love the Weber Rotisserie, use mine a lot on my New Weber Q1200N. Not sure when you will get these in the states

The rotisserie is a great addition to the SearWood!

I would be interested in maximum weight test of the rotisserie. Thinking of a rotisserie brisket in future like mad scientist bbq did a while ago.

Ka, someone just mentioned it looks like 20# capacity. Thanks for the inquiry!

New subscriber and glad I found your channel! Definitely leaning towards getting the Searwood based on your videos and appreciate all of your insight. Currently have a Pitboss Pro 1150 that I'm getting tired of swapping out a heat diffuser when I want to smoke or grill 😡
@sambosplace7 ай бұрын
Jason, welcome aboard! Appreciate you. I had. PB Pro 1100 for 4+ years. Wore it out. Loved the open flame searing capabilities, but mine had very inconsistent heat zones. A decent smoker. The Weber is a much better smoker. You will miss open flame, but over time you’ll get used to the manual mode for grilling and searing. Good luck with your upgrade, Thanks for checking in, there’s more content coming!

@@sambosplace My Pitboss has the same heating inconsistencies. It's been solid, that's for sure. Looking forward to your new stuff! Keep up the good work!

There were pictures and instructions in my Weber rotisserie kit. You have it on upside and the screws in the wrong way.
@butkusrules087 ай бұрын
They clip is upside down
@sambosplace7 ай бұрын
Butkus, appreciate the clarification. Nothing written in mine to really decipher the threaded pin arranged or the clip. As a professional model builder, I’m keen to figuring things out. But alas, as I age, I tend to overlook. Reversing the threaded pins makes sense. I’m gonna drop either those or the locking nuts down into the cook box. I don’t want to keep the bracket extended over the side shelf. Appreciate your advice. Thanks for checking in!

I'm adding up all the pluses and minuses of the SearWood 600 XL, (thank you for your honest opinion on both), and I'm really considering it for my next pellet smoker / grill. I'm only holding back to see how it's doing a few months down the road. I'm also hoping that Weber is paying attention to your reviews. Your basically saying what all of us would say in our backyard while working with it. Some of your suggestions, (proper build instructions, additional instructions they've sent you that aren't included in the manual provided in the original box, recommended positioning of the add on griddle to take advantage of the hotter spots, recommending added attention to grease build up on the rear lower side of the barrel so it can be cleaned before the chance of a grease fire starts building up) would cost little "out of pocket" for Weber while providing much more helpful information for new owners. Customer service is very important but the information a company provides up front both makes for a more pleased customer and reduced customer service calls made to get answers to questions that would never have occurred had the manual been properly thought out before publishing. Considering the cost of publishing a proper manual being so infinitesimally small compared to the design, engineering, and build of the finished product ...... well ...... foolish comes to mind. Include pictures, well worded instructions, optional builds for specific uses. Come on. Questions answered are questions never asked. I'm also interested in your opinion on the strength of the rotisserie add on for the Weber SearWood 600 XL. Just from what I've seen in your videos I'm thinking two whole chickens would work. What are your thoughts on other options? Turkey breasts? A ham? Would it hold up to the weight of a pork loin. I'm sorry if this sounds silly but I've never owned a grill or smoker with a rotisserie on board.
@sambosplace7 ай бұрын
Arlum, appreciate your candor and description. You’re spot on about a great many things. Hang tight, more is to come and I’m in full agreement this pit needs to stay healthy longer than my SmokeFire did. As for the spit, it’s a heavy, robust piece. Should have no issue handling 2 chickens with zero issues. Perhaps even 2 turkeys. Pork loin, no problem. I have not plugged it in yet and motorized it, but intend on doing a roasted chicken soon. Stay tuned, appreciate your kind supportive words. Thanks for checking in!!
@chuckperry5747 ай бұрын
I recently did 2 whole chickens, one was 5.5#, the other was 4.5#. No flex of the spit, I think it's rated for 20#, so I'll use it for my Thanksgiving turkey.

So...just installed this rotisserie and the included directions worked well. You do know it appears that they intend for us to slide the motor off and leave the stainless bracket connected when not us9ng, correct? Cover fors no issue and no lid interference issues.

John, thanks for checking in. Appreciate the support. Yes, I’m aware. And I believe I mentioned that I’m not a fan of it taking up previous side table space. That said, it’s a great attachment to have with a pellet grill. Cheers!

What are your thoughts on the 600 vs 600 XL size? Is the 600 too small?
@sambosplace7 ай бұрын
@feelslike, I’m the type of person who doesn’t want to wish I had bought larger. From my SmokeFire days, I had folks comment that pellet use was less, due to overall square inch heating area, and slightly faster heat to temp times on the smaller model. Otherwise, you have the additional space if needed. I can tell you I enjoy the griddle and room to toast buns on the grill grates with the XL. Thanks for checking in!!
@MrPhoenix18007 ай бұрын
I don’t think Weber thought the side table all the way through they should have put four casters on this grill/smoker. Pretty inconvenient to have to lose your handle. A handle on the back with four casters may have solved that
