Yes, my grandson found two kittens outside a week ago. I took them in because I didn’t want the other cats to find them and eat them. They are between the 2 -3 weeks old. They were dirty, cold and hungry. Not knowing how to properly care for the kittens, I googled and found your videos which helped me immensely. You taught me how to feed them, how to help them pea and poop. Although they are so adorable, I would like help to sterilize my neighborhood.

I came across this video just scrolling for different info, so not sure how to register with you. On May 13, 2023 my Mom passed away. She has wanted me to have a kitty for a couple of years now, since my BabyGirl passed in 2020. Well, I was driving past her Church on May 23, 2023 and heard a loud Mew. I parked and searched, and in front of Mom's Church was this sweet baby. I brought him home and had a vet friend check him over. He was 1.88 lbs and @ 8 wks old. So, I'm pretty sure that was a bold sign from my loving Mom. I named him Rascal since he is feisty, but his nickname is Romeo since he stole my heart.

I've been helping my daughter foster a litter of kittens and their mama who were living under a neighbor's porch. They are all so adorable. I can't get enough of them. Their antics are wonderful to watch, and while they are a LOT of work, it is soooo rewarding. I love them all, esp. mama, to pieces.

Just wanted to say thank you for all your kitten care videos. I've almost always had a cat in my life and several kittens but I always had momma to take care of them. However, recently I adopted a 4 week old kitten who's momma dropped him in the middle of a country road, ran off into the trees and didn't return. I had no idea how to take care of this little joy. The vet helped me and got me started on my adventure, but you're videos made all the difference. I feel very confident in taking care of him now and kitten is doing great!

Thank you! I really enjoyed your series. I have been fostering kittens for 9 years now but still was able to learn by watching. About 4 1/2 years ago we got a 5 month old, un-socialized male kitten. He wanted nothing to do with us but became bonded with one of our male cats. There was no way I was going to return him to try to be adopted so we adopted him. 4 1/2 years later he will, only on his terms, sometimes, but only if we are very lucky, let us touch him if he is by his boyfriend. But that just goes to show how narrow the window is for socialization. Thank you so much for everything you do!

Thank you so much for your series! I have enjoyed each one, and learned so much more than I thought I would. Have fostered for a local feline rescue 2 years now. Last year was a rough one with our fosters with the loss of a momma and a baby, 2 litters of bottle feeders, single abandons, illnesses, and 2-FIP kitties we treated-1 has beaten FIP and our 2nd one has just about 30 days of her observation period to then say she has also beaten FIP. I am so grateful to the people and organizations out here like you and the FIP groups we can to know because I don't think we could have saved and helped as many as we have without the support and knowledge you all so willingly give. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all you do!

I've only had to socialise a feral kitten once, and I had no idea how to do it until your video with crabapple came out. I basically sat with her whilst she ate and just talked about my D&D sessions (I mean, no one else wants to know so why not), sometimes I even ate my food with her. At the end of it she was basically sitting with me during my D&D games. I have a cat tree next to my computer which I got just so she could still sit with me as she got older. I ended up having her as a foster for a bit longer than normal because people were reluctant to adopt her due to hearing "ex feral". I miss her. My cats use the cat tree, but she was my little D&D buddy.

The info you provide is priceless. We moved into a house unaware we were inheriting cats :) The back yard had a raised bed and the first time we turned the sprinklers on I heard alot of kittens crying. I removed them and found a better nestbox I placed under a tree. I put out water and dry food. Mom showed up and I guess she trusted me because over the weeks I was able to socialize the kittens while Mom lay nearby. I was able to accomplish several things: the kittens still had their Mom, the kittens were well-socialized and when they appeared more independent I was able to trap Mom and take her to my Vet who did a pro bono spay. Mom was returned to the backyard and I found homes for the babies. Mom hung around and became very socialized including being very affectionate at the screened slider, particularly when my neutered male was at that door. She really loved him. :) When I took him for a walk on his leash she would follow talking the whole time. In the winter, I always made the garage available.

Thanks for this - I had four kittens under my deck and I caught them just yesterday. My problem was that while I had an idea of how to catch them, I really had no idea what to do to socialize and care for them. Luckily, the third cat I caught was the mom, so they are together, being taken care of by the local Humane Society. Now, I have a better idea how to handle them in case the professionals are unavailable.

Hannah, I just want to send you a thank you, you are soo inspirational. i was contacted about potentially taking in a little feral kitten, I later found out it was a litter of 4 kittens from a yard with feral community cats, the yard are actively trying to TNR, however unfortunately there are a few cats that havent been caught yet, so there was a litter needing a place to go. Because you are so amazing in sharing your experiences I agreed to take on the 4 kittens in a fostering capacity, fast forward a few weeks and I have 4 thriving 6 week old kittens that are almost weaned having been bottle fed for the first few weeks. I have found the perfect homes for all 4 babies and it will be a very happy but sad day when they go. I was also contacted a few days back, we were having a heatwave (very uncommon here in scotland) but a mumma cat had brought her kittens to the yard but had left them for the past few hours just baking in the sun... it's a sad story with one of the kittens having passed away lying there, and 2 of them in really bad shape. I managed to collect the 3 kittens that were left and rushed them straight to the vet... unfortunately 2 of them were in such a bad way that despite how hard both the vet and myself worked to get them hydrated and put some weight on it was too much for their wee bodies to handle... they had been exposed for too long and despite how hard it was the vet had no choice and both Athena and Odin never made it. Their sister Pax is currently home and working on weaning, putting on weight and learning to play... she may have some issues whether from breeding or her difficult start but all fingers crossed and I wont stop fighting for her. It just shows however that TNR programs within cat communities is so important, the mumma was in no condition to be having a litter or caring for kittens and we've ended up with a very sad situation. Hannah you are such an amazing person to be doing everything you can and for being such an advocate for those who do not have their own voices. I never post on videos however I felt that after the experience I've had and the ability to foster these kittens from the wealth of info you have provided to give the best care it has allowed me to give them a chance of life, so I felt i had to post to say thank you and that while you may be thousands of miles away... you have been instrumental in the saving of these 5 kittens... Tonks, Lupin, Moody, Ciri & my teeny tiny Pax. So thank you from all of us.

My grandma and i were taking care of a tame stray cat who was about to become a young mom named Honey, we started feeding her and she disappeared, she was found with her kittens locked in a shed, the kittens were mostly ok, as she had been feeding them, but she could barely walk, we moved her and her five kittens to a cat house and over about 72 hours she lost two if the kittens and on the third morning we lost her. The remaining kittens we took in, they were different ages, the two oldest were about three weeks, named Cinnamon and Creme, and the two week old was Dawn. We lost Dawn but the other two are thriving. It has been such a big help to rely on your videos on what to do to keep them health and happy. They are more and more active by the day and are now 5 weeks old. Thanks

Hi! My Mother was giving me a ride home one day....I live in the country, and as we were driving, a kitten was in the middle of the road. She was running in circles and obviously in distress. I exclaimed to my Mom, "It's a kitten! Stop!" We stopped in the middle of the road.....if any other cars were driving by, I wanted to be certain they would stop upon seeing our car parked in the middle road (just want to let you know the road we were travelling on was not a busy street, but a back, country road). The kitten became aware that something was attempting to "get" her.....and was pretty adept at being able to avoid capture. My Mom watched for any cars using the road as i was trying to capture this kitten. Finally, I laid down.....yes, in the middle of the road, and outsretched both my arms.....the kitten ran right into one of my arms and i was able to scoop her up to safety! We all got back into the car and continued on our way. The kitten was in very bad condition. At first, I thought she was abused, she was a black cat, it was near Halloween, and all i could think of was the worst. Her eyes were non-existant covered in like a scabby material. I took her home, fed her and called the vet. She was starving. She was at least 6 weeks old. We dubbed our upstairs bathroom, "Stella's Apartment". This kept her apart from my other 4 cats. The vet said that her eyes were covered because of a nasty upper respiratory infection and was blind. Otherwise, she assured me that i had a "good cat". I took her home, called her Stella and she has recovered nicely. She is a very loving cat. She has adjusted to her blindness and you would not know that she can't see, except for the glaze over her eyes. It took a few months for my other cats to adjust to her. Little1 & Ladybugs are not bothered by her at all. However, Ruby and her do not get along at all! When Ruby comes upstairs, she watches to see that Stella is not at her post at the top of the steps leading upstairs and rushes up to my bedroom. There have been times when both will share my king size bed for a nap, but as soon as one wakes up, they will separate immediately! Stella is only a bully to Ruby. I have had Stella for a few years now.....her and Ruby tolerate each other, however, they will never be friends! So, Kidd (the only male in my bunch), Little1, Ladybugs, Ruby and Stella are all loved equally, and have a great home in the country with my husband and I.

Hi Hannah. Thank you so much for this. It answered so many question. We found a feral Mama with two kittens. We found em about a 5-7 days old. I was able to build Mama trust in two weeks...exactly the same way you mentioned in building kitten love..Mama seemed extremely young, and not at all aggresive. I started to feed her and stay the whole time she was eating. We build a great bond. We built mamma and kitties a more secure place to stay. Since they were not in a safe place. We waited til they were about 3 1/2 weeks and brought em to the house...the kittens are now 5 weeks old. Ive been able to keep em friendly. The kitties let me hold em..Mama let's me hold her for a short time. Tho I need help with getting mom sterile. With covid I can't pay for sterilization that my local vet estimated. how can I seek assistance.

Thank you for the super informative video. I'm planning on making a cat documentary on outdoor cats, including the topics you described. Not 100 percent sure if I will make a documentary, but it's looking like a strong candidate for a top documentary in the world

Yes. We have a "community" bY in the garden of the local nursing home. We managed to capture two of the kittens last year. I found a forever home for the tuxedo tom. And kept the little female.

We just found 3 kittens outside my building unfortunately 1 didn't make it and the other 2 are super healthy, I never thought I would fall in love with them and now I really want to help other kittens.

My cat was a colony cat. Nemo was found under a trailer. My friend found them and cared for him. I took my "free" kitten. The Mom wasn't found.

I found a kitten 1 mo ago on side of busy road almost got hit and had some roadrash on face. She is now adopted by me. Doing great. I feel she may have been dumped. She was 10 wks but underweight but had no fleas or parasites.

I wish Hannah Shaw was around in 2007 as I have a now 13 year old unsocialized cat now who lives under the couch in my basement most of the day. Her Mom had 3 babies & the Mom ➕ her babies we're spayed or neutered in 2007. Mom was 10 month's old in 2007 & her 1 baby was unsocialized. Stormy is now turning 13 this year, she's sociable with her feline brother but not me. She was coming around until I took her to the vet & then she hates me again now.

I'm glad you still care for her. Youre such a good person. Sadly so many people would rwhome or surrender an animal that they can't interact with much.

@@jazzspitz4747 Thank you. She's difficult to catch when it's nail trimming time but I'm able to get her & I talk to her calmly & she loves back scratches like any other cat but she's mostly running away from me back to under the couch where she feel's safe. She's inside & safe, she has 0 worries about where her next meal is going to come from & she's away from all the elements of bad weather.

Thank you for this webinar series. I'm learning so much. I am new to fostering, and working with an organization here in Montreal. I have a feral mom and seven 9-week-old kittens. The kittens are with the mom in two XL-dog crates (metal bars). We've had them since they were 5 weeks. The kittens were warming up to us, but we are at a standstill. Mom is FERAL and has not responded well to our attempts to socialize. I learned a lot today. I will stop free feeding and spend more time with them at meal times. All the kittens are promised for adoption, but I'm worried they are not friendly enough and won't do well in the adoptive homes. Would be terrible if they are adopted and then given up by adopters. My question : Do I separate the kittens from the mom now?

ANSWERED at 1:28 in the video ! Thank you Kitten lady!

Jennifer Long, Yah. They should have been separated from Mom at/just after ~5 weeks old. According to the video, your Kittens are at the “upper end of the socialization window”. Edit: I just now, realized that you answered your own question!! Pardon me for butting in! ✌️

I am using these videos to start socializing the ferrel kitten we found. To help her get used to voices.

I truly thought I understood this subject until I tnr 2 kittens who weren’t interested/scared/aggressive PRE weaning, later become super friendly. Only one out of that litter was a friendly baby and he became an aloof independent adult! 2other litters with 1of6 immediately were friendly with no fear and the rest took a little time. I have one of each litter (the best one of course)😊 tnr till I drop. Just a few more to go in the colony

My hands feel tied because there's no program for low-cost spay-neuter in my area. I feed and do what I can, knowing the cycle is just going to repeat.
