Thanks Dennis. Some great videos on OpenDroneMap. I'm excited about the advancement of OpenDroneMap, but for those of us that are not command-line savvy, stuck in a spoon-fed GUI world, this is not yet a real option. I wish I could write code, I'd be helping out. DroneDeploy will let me build five 2D/3D orthomosaics a month for free but that's still limiting. I'm not a commercial surveyor, I do this for my own research, so free or low-cost software like OpenDroneMap is promising.
@dennisbaldwin8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback. I'm really liking what the ODM team is up to. I've never used DroneDeploy but am very familiar with them. Maybe I can put together a comparison soon. Good luck with your research.

Thanks for the video Dennis. On Windows 10 I found I had to create a .env file in the webodm directory with "COMPOSE_CONVERT_WINDOWS_PATHS=1" and also run the dos2unix command on all the *.YML and *.sh files. After that it worked great. I'd like to understand the Processing Nodes options to see if I can use multiple PCs on my home network.

What do you suggest for a person like me who is not familiar with open source software. I love the software's capabilities but it's just so convoluted to install. I'm a long time drone flier with my FAA certification and I've historically used precisionmmapper. Now that its shut down, I'd like to find a free or low cost alternative. As a non techie, this is just over my head.

Hi Dennis, do you think you would be able to do a video on understanding Task Options and improving the quality/output of the task? Or provide some resources on how I can better understand these? I'm a new to the drone scene. Thanks :)

Hello Dennis, I went through the video tutorials. Actually i am doing research on sustainable agriculture using drones (particularly in banana plantation). The opendronemap ran well. However the accuracy is not quite good. I compared the accuracy with Agisoft Photoscan . But with OpenDrone map the same orthomosaic that was clear with Agisoft, had some extra dark patches with OpenDroneMap. Is there any ways that i can improve the accuracy with OpenDroneMap? Thanks for the outstanding work that you guys are doing. Highly appreciate your work Regards, Suman

Thanks for the video Dennis, I used it to run my first WebODM project with some imagery from my P4. The results are good but I'm having difficulty working out if there is a simple way to get the orthophoto tif into google maps or google earth - any tips?
@dennisbaldwin8 жыл бұрын
WebODM will automatically georefence the orthophoto and overlay it on Google Maps. It will also give you the ability to download an orthophoto.tif that you can bring into Google Earth or slice up and host in your own Google Maps site. I'll see if I can put together a video on that soon.

Hey Dennis, this looks amazing! I am interested in doing WebODM on Amazon AWS. Would this simply be a combination of following your two video tutorials - first the one on installing ODM on Amazon, and then this one on using WebODM? If so, would you access the WebODM interface through the browser, using the IP address you get from Amazon? Is there a tutorial that walks you through the whole process? That would be awesome!
@dennisbaldwin7 жыл бұрын
Pretty much. The challenge may be that you'll need to open the web port to access it via IP. By default AWS servers are locked down pretty tight. Maybe this will help: stackoverflow.com/questions/17161345/how-to-open-a-web-server-port-on-ec2-instance Good luck!

Thanks, Dennis! Also, question from a complete newbie with no experience of AWS: As I'm paying for server use by the hour, would I have to completely re-install the system every time I want to use it? Or can I keep files on the AWS file system even though I am not using (and paying for) CPU cycles?

I think WebODM makes it pretty simple once you install it. You can upload your imagery each time and it takes care of the rest. Glad to hear you were able to get it running. Thanks so much for the feedback.

Thanks for the response, My question is this. I completed two projects a few weeks ago. Now I want to do another. I'm running Ubuntu 16.04. What is the start point? do I start with terminal and ./webodem.sh start everytime? or do I start earlier or later than that?

You’ve got a football field with yardage markers clearly visible. Why wouldn’t you have selected 40 or 50 yards using the lines on the field to demonstrate the measurement capabilities? Is the difference between actual and “measured” too great?

Dear Dennis! Thank you for the very useful video! I need some help. I use WebODM on Windows with Docker toolbox. I would like to use GCP-s. But I Don't knwo where to copy the gcp_list.txt. Can you help me?
@dennisbaldwin7 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure how this works on Windows as I've never done it on Windows but I can't imagine it being too different. Here is an explanation where it talks about the gcp_list.txt file being in your root folder: github.com/OpenDroneMap/OpenDroneMap/wiki/Running-OpenDroneMap and if you don't put it there you can use the --gcp parameter to specify the location. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Note to All: Oracle VM defaults to 19 gb virtual hard disk. If you don't read the DIVO recommends, then I'll just tell you that that is too small and to open VM (when shut down) and increase Virtual hard disk space to 100 gb. ( as well as # of cpu's) et.al; Otherwise you might wind up with a result of .... 54 KILLED because you ran out of space.
