Great coaching on what may be the least practiced shot in tennis. Practicing the half volley against the wall (or ball machine) will give you the reps needed to give you a feel for this touch shot.

Great technique and attitude toward the half-volley. The tendency is to panic and chop down on the ball as opposed to getting the racquet like a wall behind the ball and going forward. That takes a lot of difficulty out of the shot.

Question. I have been told to follow the ball when positioning myself at the net. However, you hit the ball wide and stayed in the center--and it worked well for you. In fact, it looks like you would have been passed if you had "followed the ball." So, should I almost always be in the center when I am in the service line area?

@@markmitchell5204 Good call. Positioning for their next shot after your volley is mostly about THEIR tendencies. Following the ball might be the right positioning choice. So vs. an unknown opponent you might have to probe a few times to see what their preferences are.

I would throw up a lob. Brent what if you stayed in transition zone a little longer expecting lob.instead of closing down the volley zone. Once your in volley zone your stuck.

@@chrisdemuth7027 Absolutely a great shot choice. Remember, you can never cover 100% of the court.
