My husband got very excited and tried to take my hand BEFORE my daddy gave me away . I shook my head "No" and he burst into actual tears, and dad goes " Boy , I have to give her to be married first!" Husband said "Holy shiza I thought she changed her mind!" and everyone was laughing. That man did not stop shaking until later that night ! LOL.

The 'class rank in the wedding vows' thing gave me flashbacks to my grandmother's funeral. My aunt is a Grade A narcissist, always has been. She got up on the podium to 'say a few words' and instead talked AT LENGTH about how her mother was always so supportive of her setting up her own business and how she had followed her passion despite the naysayers and had worked hard to become one of the best in her entire industry (she performs Reiki on horses, so I'd imagine there's probably only about 3 other people IN her entire industry!). The whole thing was basically just a love letter to herself when it should have been about honouring her dead mother. Super inappropriate and embarrassing to watch!

Oh, gosh. That reminds me of my friend's grandmother. My friend died a few years ago at 22 from COVID on top of cancer and year after that her family and friends gathered to honor her memory. And grandma wouldn't shut up how she was the reason my friend was so clever and bright, how she forced-taught her English when my friend was a child and only because of this she could speak English. Same with math and other things. Few hours about what an amazing grandmother she was to my friend. And then she somehow transitioned at the topic of the war in the Ukraine and how Ukrainians always have been rude and hateful and what horrible things they're doing during this war (literally all government propaganda she heard on TV by the book). And no one at the table dared to interrupt her, because she is an elderly woman and it would be highly disrespectful. I saw at least couple of people was ready to snap at that table. I know that despite everything my friend loved her family and at the end she forgave them, but it doesn't mean I do. 😠

@@volhan.p.9722 I'm very sorry to hear about your friend. It's truly tragic for someone to lose their life so young, and her grandmother should have known better than to have such lack of respect. It's unfortunate that some people are just so into themselves that they're incapable of reading a room. My condolences.
@volhan.p.9722

@@Jay-wy3xu thank you. I'm very sorry for your loss too. But as you said - people like this are narcissists that don't recognise that they are narcissists. It can hurt people around them, but it's a sort of defense mechanism, because imagine the impact of realising that you was wrong in how you treated your late grandchild. Like my friend's mother who reflected a lot at her parenting decisions after she was gone. I imagine it's not a nice feeling. So people like this not only can't read the room, or can't reflect on themselves, they sometimes just refuse to do so. Well, everything has its consequences. Her own son treating her poorly and he was always about himself even when my friend got sick. That's grandmother's doing too, the type of person her son became and how he treats her. But even he was able to reflect on his actions and realised he was bad father. He even tried to be a decent one during my friend's last months. So at least I hope she felt loved by the people who didn't showed her much love at jer childhood before she passed away.

This is why, as a professional wedding officiant, I ask for the couple's vows a few weeks before the wedding. One might be 4 pages, single-spaced, with every story they've ever had. The other might be a short paragraph based on traditional wedding vows (I will love and honor you...). It's good to read them over, then suggest editing to one person, and maybe adding a funny story to the traditional/non-personal to lighten them and lengthen them. Of course without telling the other what they've written, so it's a surprise on their wedding day.

Well, if the signed wedding agreement/license hadn’t been already taken to City Hall, she could have torn it up right then and there and the wedding would not be legal. I heard of a bride doing that at another wedding after her “not-quite-legally-husband” smashed her face into the cake, hard!, after he promised her many times that he would not do so. She could also have gotten it annulled the next working day, but just tearing it up immediately, before filing it, would be best.

I also think taking shotguns or rifles as props for wedding photos would only be appropriate for someone like Lauren Boebert, who had her family’s Christmas photo taken that way. It is her “style”. Maybe the bride would change her mind if she knew that. I for one, wouldn’t even consider such a totally redneck thing. Then again, if it’s her way of publicly announcing that she’s pregnant it might be cute for one photo. Absolutely no other reason!

The Tarantino movie the bride is referring to is "From Dusk till Dawn," with Selma Hayek doing this during her snake/ table dance. Also... having the detachable train is AMAZING!! Technically, it's not a Quentin Tarantino film. It's actually a Robert Rodriguez film. Tarantino only helped write the screenplay ( which is how he managed to stick his fetish into the movie). Okay, after seeing the ice cream towers, I've got to tell the story of the ice cream cake at my wedding. It was a small wedding, just about 40 guests, plus 8 in the bridal party counting my husband and me. We got a 3-tier ice cream cake, which was delivered to the venue right before the reception started. The folks delivering the cake tried to tell the people running the reception venue that the ice cream cake was frozen really rock solid and should sit in the fridge for an hour or so to soften before we tried to cut it. The venue people didn't listen, just shooed them away saying "we know what we're doing." Ten minutes into the reception, the venue manager came rushing over to us saying, "you have to cut the cake RIGHT NOW!! It's ice cream and it's starting to melt!" So we went over and took photos with the cake, and started to cut it. Remember I said it had been frozen rock solid? Yeah, it was still rock solid. The photos show us smiling holding the knife just over the cake, then starting to cut, then trying hard to cut, then my husband using two hands to try to cut it. At that point the venue manager said, "oh... I guess it's not actually melting after all..." Ya think? And for the record, no, we didn't have a wedding planner. I was doing this wedding on a very low budget, and didn't think I had money for a wedding planner. Probably would have saved myself a lot of stress if I'd gotten one, but yeah... I didn't.

"I think this has reached an audience outside the legal community"...did they think lawyers are the only people who have attended weddings before🤣 Or maybe they just think fellow lawyers will support them bragging about their law school in their vows🤔
@jerdtgg

Graduating is a big deal, graduating from law school even bigger, one of the top in the nation? even bigger still. And while everyone will acknowledge the accomplishment, a majority are just being polite. The people at the wedding who are actually a part of the bride and groom's circles will know what prestigious university was attended, the rest will see it as a shameless self-plug during an event that celebrates the joining of 2 lives.

Nope, not just you 😆. I'm pretty kink friendly and all...but that would be a hard no for me... including as a guest. Express your kink by wearing a collar or giving a saucy speech or whatever, but toilet stuff and openly sexual acts do not belong at a public event. At least not, if not all the guests explicitly signed up for this kind of thing. Making people watch something *does* involve them. Involuntarily in this case and that's not ok.

I'm old enough to remember when people who lived, let's say, alternative lifestyles constantly chanted "Keep Government out of our bedrooms!" And rightly so, baring any questions of consent. In this day and age, my constant refrain is "Keep your bedroom out of the public!" Trust me, I get it. At our Wiccan hand-fasting, my now late wife presented me with her collar - two braided chains; one silver and one gold for the Goddess and the God (respectively). Clever woman that she was, she'd had a matching one for herself, made of twin ropes of silver. Our explanation to people was that since I worked as an auto mechanic, I couldn't wear rings, which was true. Those who knew, knew; those who didn't had a reasonable explanation.

I have been single at all but one wedding I have attended. The worst part about being single at a wedding and having people try to set me up with someone else who is single at that wedding…I mean, just because we are both single doesn’t mean we find each other attractive, have anything other than being single in common, or even live in the same region/country. I was actually having a great conversation with a guy at my cousin’s wedding and my aunt walked by, saw us talking, and said, “I was hoping you two would meet,” then carried on her way. I said, “🙄so, I guess you are single.🙄” He was rolling his eyes as well and we went our separate ways.

For the law school one, I feel maybe instead of "Oh because of you I was able to graduate top of my class in law school" or whatever details it was, just say "You were my main driving force to graduate law school/college, and I couldn't have done it without you, thank you for being there for me, etc.". That sentence puts your fiancé as the main focus of the sentence and paints him in a better light, rather than it making OP seem like she's bragging about her achievements. There's also the option of not saying it at all if OP can find better things to say, but it all depends on the wording/context
