11:28 I think of prenups like this; when you marry someone, it’s because you absolutely love them and want to spend your life with that person, but people change and you may find yourself in the difficult situation where the person you fell head over heels for doesn’t exist. Maybe you’re the one who changed, your priorities have shifted and it’s in the best interest of everyone to go your separate ways. A prenup makes that decision easier for everyone involved, turning what could be a horrible, nightmarish headache into something manageable and potentially protecting whatever relationship may exist between you.

I had a friend who was out partying and ran into an ex boyfriend. They got to talking and both of them were single. They ended up together that night and she became pregnant. It turned out he wasn't single. He had lied. When she contacted him to tell him about the pregnancy, he told her the truth. He then went home to his girlfriend, spun the truth in his favor, asked her to marry him and decided to knock her up too. They both kept sending texts to my friend about getting rid of the child because he would only be there for his real child. Wedding came around and when it was time for cake cutting, they found him outside hitting on some random women that had walked past the party. Later in the evening the bride was crying to some of her guests, telling them: "I don't think this will last." Those guests were also friends of my friend so they told her about the disaster of a wedding. They rushed everything all because he was a jerk cheating on his girlfriend and knocking up another woman. My friend ended up a single mother but at least here in Denmark childcare doesn't cost an entire paycheck so she managed fine on her own.

on the prenup thing: my life is full of times where I came to trust someone after knowing them for a long time, only to have the rug pulled from under me. That has given me a lot of trust issues, and I have no doubt that I might get as far as marrying someone before that rug pull happens. And for me, the big motivation for a prenup would be that I think divorce law in so many places has a childish idea of fairness. I've seen so many stories of people losing things that were only ever theirs and not ever the partner's. I see that as a severe injustice and want to make sure it can't happen to me.

I'm fine with the idea of a prenup too - my fiance makes so much more than I do, but he's a kind man who shares readily, and I don't think we'll ever break up, so to me, a prenup would be nonexistent. i wouldn't mind if he wanted one.

My fiancé is 24 years older than me. We have been together over 7 years. He is a doctor and has a lot of money saved up for retirement. I’m the one who wants to get married. He made it clear there would be a prenup. While it’s not my fantasy and I hate the idea of it, I have to remind myself, he has a lot of money he worked hard for. I have to be an adult. He made sure I’ll be taken cared of in his Will. I have no intention of leaving him. But I’ve learned, you shouldn’t relay on someone to “take care of you”. Bc things happen. He could end up with a life long medical issue that eats all his savings. Point is, don’t rely on someone for money.

About prenup. This is not necessarily about trust. Relationship just can go wrong without anyones intention or desire. So in a way, prenup is form of trust, like "we care about each other, even if those relationship will not work".

I got married at 19 to my high school sweetheart. I’m now mid forties and still happily married to that man. He is the love of my life and if he dies first I’ll probably die of a broken heart soon afterward. It really depends on the people in question whether or not young marriage can work out. In our case-we fell more in love than we were when it was new and exciting. Our kids are grown now and gag and groan over us fawning on each other and getting kissy faced 😂. We hold hands everywhere that we go. We are a success story. So there’s at least one out there at this point in time, and likely many others we don’t know about.

I think a pre-nup can be extremely good and responsible choice. When in a healthy relationship agreeing to a plan for post relationship while level headed can prevent some challenges. Then should the relationship end and emotions are high, the level-headed plan can help keep things from getting out of hand just because of emotions. Most people are not emotionally mature enough to even consider this.

My husband’s cousin married a guy that was a lot older than her, but it didn’t really matter because he treated her like a queen. She didn’t work and his Social Security checks paid for the rent and the groceries, etc. Unfortunately guy got diagnosed with cancer and passed away in March 2017. She needed a place to live and needed someone to pay the bills because she wasn’t working and so she latched onto the first guy that showed her interest. Ended up marrying this guy in November 2017 and at the reception he was hitting on her best friend. Best friends husband found out about it and threatened him and told him that if this wasn’t his wife’s best friends wedding, he would do some thing violent to the guy. Anyway fast forward to 2021 and she has a guy thrown in jail for drunk driving because he was a raging alcoholic and she was already working on husband number three. She is not the most likable person and she’s made some other choices that I’m not gonna get into cause this isn’t the thread but we all knew that the marriage to the first guy after becoming a widow, was not gonna last. Not when he was hitting on her best friend the night he got married…

11:24 That's why, whenever I meet a new woman, one of the first things I always ask her about is whether she wants to be married or is content just staying boyfriend/girlfriend in the eyes of the law while we call ourselves "husband and wife" to everyone else. If she asks for the former, I then immediately ask if she would be okay with me having a prenup to protect myself. This is something I always make sure to nip in the bud as early as possible (like ... third or second date, possibly even first date if I can manage to squeeze it in). At that point, trust has not been established yet, so there's no expectations that we "should trust" each other, and no trust is being betrayed.

@@teresabillings8378 That's your preference and you have a right to it. I personally feel it is necessary that we establish as early as possible that we have the same long-term goals in mind. Otherwise, we risk wasting each others' time. I've seen plenty of women complain online about a guy "stringing her along" for 18 whole months before finally admitting to her that he wasn't looking for anything serious. I believe it's essential to establish at the outset that we have the same long term goals, so we don't end up like that chick.

As someone who’s been in at least 2 relationships where marriage was forced, with only one ending in a marriage followed by divorce, please make sure the person you’re going through this with is the person you want to spend the rest of your life with. One wedding I went to, I'm surprised that they're still together. Bride and Groom had three kids together pre-marriage. They decide to make it official. Bride is TWO AND A HALF HOURS late to her own wedding. Guests were leaving in droves and confusion, despite Mother of the Bride waving her phone around saying, "She's on her way! She's on her way! Just a little longer, and she'll be here!" The only reason I stuck around was because one of the other guests was a good friend of mine that I hadn't seen in a while, and I wanted to catch up in person. Never did find out why Bride was so late, but she and the Groom are still together, and it's been nearly eight years.

I'm not a fan of most cake smashing in weddings, but my BIL just smeared a small bit of icing near my sisters mouth. Sis wasn't completely pleased, but did laugh about it, and hair, makeup, and dress were preserved. She got him back with a small frosting smear on his cheek right after. It's what I consider done well. The family bets at the wedding were on if my sis woild have twins, or tripplets, given both run in both bride and grooms family. She had one girl. as for prenups, I want one with my SO, not because I don't trust him, but because we both have had toxic marriages with messy divorces. I want a prenup to protect him, and ensure we stay together because we want to and not because we're scared of losing everything in a divorce.

10:44 Honestly, if there is something I’ve noticed from my parents is that love is a bitch that messes with your EVERYTHING. That is why, if I ever get married I want a prenup, because while I trust my future spouse, I don’t trust my heart or anyone’s to make the best decisions for themselves. If I miss more red flags that one can count I want a safe GTFO card, so my mistake won’t cost me so much. If I make the right choice then I know that my partner is down to earth if they agree with it because it means that while we want to love each other and be together forever, we know that that isn’t always the case and safety nests are important.

I figured I would throw my hat in the ring on prenups (if nothing more than because engament boosts your videos 😊) and say that for me, it doesn't have much to do with trust. When I was around 14, my dad hit his head pretty hard. He was an ass before, but after the accident the little filter he had went away. It took a toll on my mom, and his was relatively minor. I'd like to think that a brain tumor, a major injury, or something else horribly unexpected wouldn't happen, but I don't know. What I do know is I love my partner enough to want to protect him. If I become someone who mistreats him or even if he's just unhappy, I want him to be free to leave. I tend to, therefore, view prenups as an act more rooted in protection and love than lack of trust. That being said, the way they're currently viewed, I can totally see how most people who get them maybe don't have the strongest footing relationship wise.

It's the part where the last OP's husband and his mother shared a mouth-to-mouth kiss. That was what put her off. Some people aren't comfortable with that - let alone with seeing it. In some traditions, it may be normal, but not everyone has that kind of family. I can confirm I don't by any means. Not once in my life have I ever kissed my mother - either on the cheek OR on the lips. I'm just not that kind of child (I'm 23) and even if I were, I would never give lip kisses to my mother, because - and this is how I personally feel about it - I find that gross. The only people I will ever kiss on the lips are either a romantic partner or spouse. No. One. Else.
